His last words in the novel kill me. He’s bleeding out in Richies arms and still manages to have that back and fourth banter saying, “ Don’t call me Ed’s”. He doesn’t even get the chance to finish his last sentence to Richie, leaving it at “ You know I... I-“. The man finally had a moment of peace and even then didn’t get to truly express whatever that sentence would have been (in my mind a confession). He just deserved so much better. That shit hurted

@@christianmegachad2898 he's literally not.... his fear of being sick is a metaphor for his fear of his own sexuality and being unclean/dirty for it. he and adrian purposefully parallel each other. there are all sorts of hints towards it in the book and even some subtle ones in the movie. and before you say it, no. the fact that he married a woman means nothing because he literally married a woman identical to his mother because of the cycle of abuse and it's made very clear in the book that he is not attracted to her and resents himself for marrying her. he's gay, just repressed and closeted. this isn't me just saying he's gay for the hell of it, it's coded all throughout his character.

babyhols666 a lot of people like to argue over his sexuality, most likely because in the movies it was never really talked about. it showed his heteronormality and nothing else, so viewers just assumed he was straight. Most people also never read the book, which is normal because of either how long it is or the fact that it might be too mature for some. The books, however, are the only form a media that talks about how Eddie actually reciprocated Richie’s feelings.

Because in the book, Eddie was still questioning his sexuality and since he feared sickness, at that time, ‘homosexuality was a sickness.’ This is what I think happened, I’m not accurate. It's not technically wrong what you said. However, I wouldn't say that he was questioning his sexuality at that time. It was more extreme: He was terryfied of his sexuality as well as sickness throughout the whole story. And these two things were actually connected at the time the story takes orginally place (because of AIDS!), 1957 and I guess even in the 80s which was the time it took place in the 2017 movie. And also, Derry is a really homophobic, racist and sexist place to be, just to mention that. So of course if you grow up there, it's gonna affect your personality a lot.

I think the real reason Eddie and his mother left Derry is because she realized she was losing control of him. The Loser Club are constantly showing Eddie their own versions of *real* love and care. Different versions because of their different personalities. And it’s slowly becoming clear to Eddie what that’s supposed to look like. Of course, Sonia tries to intimidate the Loser Club every time she sees them. I don’t think this is the first time she’s done this with a potential friend Eddie tries to make. This was just the first time that it failed. The moment Eddie is discharged from the hospital, he goes back to the Loser Club, basically confirming to Sonia who Eddie ultimately preferred. And, as a last desperate act to regain full control over him, they moved out of Derry. And, unfortunately for Eddie, but fortunately for Sonia, he has no memory of his childhood in Derry and, therefore, no memory of the first time he experienced genuine love and care. As a result, Sonia regaining control over Eddie was basically inevitable. I’m sure Eddie did try to make friends in his new town, but Sonia would have done everything in her power to scare them off. Then, she would probably lie to Eddie about being the *real* reason they left him, isolating him further
