I have been record collecting since 1981. It took me a lot longer than 4 years to come to similar conclusions. Quality over Quantity is essential.

I think being on social media has helped me come to these conclusions a lot faster. I’ve learned a lot of other people and used their advice. The one I’ve heard the most is quality over quantity.

I’m glad I didn’t get rid of my records when CDs or streaming came along. When I was your age I didn’t think about purging. Now I’m purging because I have more than enough records. I’m slowly entering my records into Discogs. As I listen to each record before entering it into Discogs I ask myself do I want to listen to this record again. I’m an old fart so there are many great records that I’m getting rid of. You sound very grounded so I don’t need to tell you not to let others tell you what to do.

That’s a good way of deciding to keep a record or not. Anyone can purge at any time, and for whatever reason.

It is very heartening to see a young person feel the appreciation for physical media. When started my journey with music in my teens, physical media was the only media available. Opening an LP, putting in on the TT and sitting down to read the jacket and liner notes as you listen, I need that. i do not stream, i do not do digital music much, less than 5% of my listening. I really only listen to music in my living room sitting in the optimal listening position with vinyl.

It is heartening if it’s for the right reasons! “Purging” your records multiple times to make room for more current stuff is not what a music lover does! I would rather have the trendy ones leave vinyl records alone rather than watch the price continue to go up! Look at all the Swifties who buy every variant she puts out! You honestly think they will listen to each one of those, NO! It’s about 10% of those buying her reformat actually have a turntable! The other 90% are buying just to stay with the current trend to people thinking they can sit on these a few years & the price will skyrocket!

That’s your opinion, but music lovers purge their collections for many different reasons. You shouldn’t judge people for what they listen to, or why they have a record collection. I personally don’t like it when artists have like 10 vinyl variants of the same album. I would like it for more Swifties to play those records instead of having them as decor pieces. Or stop selling Swift albums for hundreds of dollars. But who am I to tell them what to do with their money? I wouldn’t do it myself, but I can’t stop the Swifties.

Hi Morgan girlfriend has lot of vinyls all of them are ones she really wanted she the same doesn't have alot of space but she has kept hers in wardrobe and some are sitting in her TV solid timber cabinet in sleeves standing up right I should say it full of vinyl

A music fan doesn’t purge their albums! A music fan never says “quality over quantity”! A music fan wants to own & listen to the bands/artists they love for years to come! Music lovers don’t follow trends or even try to stay current! Listeners need to stick to streaming & leave the records alone for the real music lovers!

Some music fans need to purge their records, but that doesn’t make them any less of a fan or music lover. For many of us it’s about “all killer no filler”. People can listen to whatever they want, old or current. I am a music fan who wants to listen to what I love for years, so I obviously keep my favorite albums. Why would I keep an album I don’t listen to? Records are for everyone, you shouldn’t be so close minded and judgmental.
