That’s a reasonable thing to say, the lack of second hand makes it almost seem like quartz. Of course nobody who has a remote idea what they’re looking at would think that, but regardless, we like our sweeping second hands.

@@AJ-lm9sg Man have times changed. Paid 40,000 for my house in Austin forty years ago and now its worth $500,000. My standard daily wearer is a Timex Ironman. I do own some expensive watches but they are lookers and fail to maintain accuracy and functionality. Function before flash is what I look for now.

Nice video. You are correct when you said the 5740/1G case is near on identical to the standard 5711, it has inherited the triple sub dial layout of 5327 and is has the Nautilus blue ridge dial without the smokey gradient of the original (5740/1G dial is identical to 5711/1P-001) but it is not accurate when you said there was nothing new going on with the 5740/1G. It has a new clasp which is different from the existing 5711/1A, 5712/1A, 5727/1A and 5980/1A clasps.

Is it just me who thinks they botched the numerals on the date wheel at 6? Look at 9 and 23, that would irritate the hell out of me. It is such a well balanced dial, but those numerals look so off. The watch might have looked more appealing with a date window at the 6 instead.

Yeah I'm not digging the date compilation either. The 31-1-* 3 is not evenly spaced. Also hate the switch over occurring between the 7 and 9, making it look like the dial go 3-5-7-6. Should have just followed the same flow with all the number bottoms facing in. The dial is too busy and the pattern reminds me of vinyl siding on a house.

IDGuy: A micro rotor plus a date wheel would have bumped up the thickness considerably. Edit: The numerals on the date subdial might look off but they are consistent. Numbers in the top half are bottom aligned, those on the bottom are top aligned around the subdial.

Are there and pictures or oil painting of the 1st wristwatch made by Patek Philippe? I've seen the painting of Queen of Naples wearing the 1st wristwatch which was made by Breguet (watch number 2639). The painting is at Warwick Castle on public display.

Got the 5740 to replace 5712. The white gold is much heavier than steel. I like ultra thin watches. So 5711/5713/5740 are all my favorites.

Although Nautilus is a masterpiece, it’s not unique anymore for its price, I know more than 10 people just in my family members who own at least one model of Nautilus. I surly go for A Lange & Sohne as it’s still unique and wonderful

Great watch and great video. I get that it is watch that rappresents and embodies herritage, complexity, style all in a "small" and good looking case. However, if I had the money (wich i don't) would i buy a watch that beats at "only" 3Hz ? It might have been much more difficult but i don't get why, a brand as Patek Philippe, don't have a 4Hz beat (as the normal nautilus) on this one

I bought one of these as a Tennis beater and it holds up to the knocks quite well but does scratch rather easily while playing. I tend to use a wristband to protect it these days. Recommended as a sports piece. Not too heavy.

I’d like to see some more videos of more affordable watches with in house movements. Oris big crown pro pilot cal 111 or Chris ward sh21 5 day auto. I’ve also been interested in stowa’s Durowe band wound movements in the marine and antea ks 41. There are videos of these watches but none with the rich history and artistic angles that you portray.
