It is the British that brought us together, but not as a nation but a business entity. That is why in the UK, the English, Welsh Scots and Irish are not called tribes, but nations. Same in America and other Western countries. But we are seen as tribes hence tribal hatred. The more we see ourselves as tribes, as magnified in the anthem given to us by the British, the more we are against each other. In fact, all the policies of this government is to the advantage of our neo colonial masters.
