What a MIRACLE! Thank the Good Lord that he saved Rudnik and the other horse!

What an absolute panic that must have been! I can’t imagine what it would be like to see him hit by a truck! So-o-o thankful that he turned into that driveway where the other horses were. When I saw the title of this video my heart sank…..I can’t stand to think what life would be like without my daily dose of “Rudnik”! 😅

When I saw how he completely ignored his own herd and kept running I was terrified that nothing would get him to stop - but apparently all it took was a neighing mare to catch his attention and snap him out of it 🥲

Been there before, except the horses weren't mine. Just doing some tractor work for a friend. Scared the hell outa me. Glad it didn't end in sorrow for you. We love our friends. Even the hard headed ones.

I’m so glad Rudnik and the other horse weren’t hurt, and were brought back safely. Hopefully, something like that never happens again.

I truly hope it never does - it’s a fear I never want to have to experience again

Oh my word that must have been so horrible for you, I can’t imagine watching this and you could not do anything😢. I am so glad you had a happy ending ❤❤

It was the most out of control I’ve ever felt - not being able to do anything to stop them. I’m just thankful the vehicles slowed down - it’s such a bad road too. We were always fighting with drivers racing past us and never slowing down when we were riding

First time hearing about this and I have to agree with you completely. No matter how well trained dogs are, they are still animals that react by instinct and are unpredictable in some circumstances .
@rudniktheroanСағат бұрын
Yes exactly. Animals will always be animals no matter how well trained and you always need to be prepared for the worst. I have such bad anxiety when dogs are around me and my horse now - especially lose

Gracious! Poor Rudnik, he was so overwhelmed, of course he just went into flight mode. Horse nearby spooks, runs at Rudnik, signaling in Horse Mind that something BAD is happening and we gotta flee FAST, then the dog starts chasing them, confirming the reason to fly, then they HAVE to get away from the dog, they see and hear their friends coming and calling them but they want to get away-away, run along the highway, with the vehicles looming too close, but there are other horses who are calm and seem safe, let's go to them! Horses are intelligent and empathic, most certainly, but they are also herd Animals. if one of the herd senses danger and raises an alarm, or just runs away from the danger, the others are going to do the same rather than risk being the one killed. They somewhat move into a Hive-Mind, which is why they will flow perfectly in synch when running together. Thus, if one horse panics, then the horses closest to the Panicky One will panick too, trusting that the herd-mate is not faking or mistaken about danger. Rudnik got a massive gortosol drop, triggering the Flight Reflex, and that was it. His independent and intelligent Mind lost the reins, literally. Terrifying to observe or be involved in I am sure, and we're all very glad Rudnik was not hurt, and calmed so quickly, he must have burned off ALL the adrenaline that dumped into his bloodstream in that run! And he trusts Mom completely, so he knew he was safe again, since she was there and not asking him to run further.

It was the worst 5 minutes of my life - and I know Rudnik doesn’t normally react that way which is what made it even worse. Once he was in that ‘flight’ mode there was no snapping him out of it. And of course horses don’t look before running across a busy road they just run. I’m so thankful no one was hurt 😭

@@rudniktheroan I was scared for him just reading the story! I am so glad he didn't get hurt or injure himself in his panic. At least he was not so confused when you got to him, being in an unknown space with unknown horses and traffic still loud nearby... Shows just how stable he is most of the time! and again, he trusts you, so he accepted that he was safe to go back, how wonderful!

Too close for comfort 🫢 Where I grew up in the mountains, we all had to use county roads a lot, as the hills were steep, heavily treed and a century of barbed wire fences. We trained the horses to turn away plus dismount if we could. 55 years ago, & I still shudder when I see horses & cars together. I hope you are feeling well Blessed be

Most people have no control of their dogs and have no idea it could end in death.
@rudniktheroanСағат бұрын
This is why I will always advocate for dogs to be on a leash around horses. There’s the rare few who are the exception and very well trained but I’ve been in a few too many accidents caused by uncontrolled dogs that i immediately start to panic anytime they’re around me & my horse.

Has ur water broken yet? If not, how long until they induce labor?
@rudniktheroanСағат бұрын
@@realBkay I’m just 37 weeks today so it would still be a while yet - at my last dr appointment she said once I hit 37 weeks we’re in the ‘safe zone’. I don’t have any plans to induce but i definitely wouldn’t complain if little man decided to make an early appearance 😂
@rudniktheroanСағат бұрын
I’m assuming they might not even suggest induction until 40 weeks

I have a real problem with dogs that chase horses. My cousin's dog (a worthless piece of fur, IMHO) chased me while I was riding in the field and spooked my mount in a dried runoff bed full of hoof-sized holes, where he started bucking and throwing me. Fortunately, my horse stopped close by, I caught him and made sure he wasn't lame and I wasn't hurt. The dog almost ate it when he went after another horse who went after him with bared teeth & pinned ears. It was a problem exacerbated by the fact my cousin & his dad were breeding Appaloosas and foaling season was happening. The dog was rehomed. Since then, I have never trusted dogs around horses.

It doesn’t take much to set a horse off - even ones who are ‘used to being around dogs’. It’s just a disaster waiting to happen. I had a similar incident happen when I was working with someone’s newly started gelding. Their GS got into the pen and was barking and spooked the gelding. He took off into their lean too shelter and if I hadn’t jumped off the side, I would have lost my head to the roof (not even exaggerating) i had a helmet on thankfully but landed head first on a large salt block, which if you know the ones I’m referring to, may as well be a concrete block. Thankfully that was the extent of the damage and the horse was ok. But I never understood why it’s so hard for people to understand how important it is to leash their dogs around horses. Especially dogs who aren’t used to horses yet or herding dogs
