Jesper Gronkjaer is the player...Mikael Forsell was the only other Scandinavian player and he was a decent striker for them. Gronkjaer was a flop.

Qwerty Qwertyson did read something in Robbie Savage's book about Bruce tearing into Gronkjaer after a poor first half performance, and he didn't appreciate it. Looked a great signing on paper but he just didn't fit into that team.

We signed Melchiot and Gronkjaer two seasons after Chelsea finished in the top four with both players on the wing. Gronkjaer didn't seem to fit at Blues.

In truth, had Bruce built a more progressive side and not several sick notes, I've no doubt we'd have stayed up and kicked on as a club. I agreed with Kenny's views on the club when he left. The lack of preparation and the club being a 'stiff corpse'. And the club has never improved. Both 2006, 2008, and 2011's relegations all have a common theme - poor managers, poor players, and a complete lack of forward thinking.

That 2011 side wasn't poor. Won the League Cup. Just lacked a reliable goalscorer.

In 2005 the opportunity was there to become an established PL club. We had some really talented players but too many midfielders and only three strikers (Pandiani was homesick and Forssell has just recovered from a major injury). The squad lost the spirit of the side which won promotion in 2002.
