Stoke under Hughes were statistically the least pressing team in the Prem. Under Lambert, they are the most pressing team in the Prem. It's not that the players went trying under Hughes, it's that Lambert has brought in a new play style that demands more hard work. Pressing is more physically taxing than sitting back. I think that's all was meant by Butland's statement.

I never had any animosity towards Hodgson. He created that after he left saying, "The fans turned on me". He was never booed or jeered, he had the opportunity to change things. I think his entire problem was that he saw us as Fulham but with a big name, he never changed his playing style. Liverpool, we looked like we were cowering to Wolves and Blackpool in games, it was ridiculous. When Kenny came in he had an attitude of, "right, I know we can lift a trophy (which we did), but I'm also going to play fearless football with an average squad." That's all Liverpool fans wanted to see under Hodgson, he had the back spine of Reina, Carragher, Gerrard, what was he afraid of? That's why it was a crisis era.

Gerrard may well have it in him to make a good manger. I’m calling it. Not saying he will be Pep or Jose though. Gerrard seems a bright enough guy but Pep and Jose are intelligent men, there is a strong correlation between outright intelligence and quality as a manger. Sounds almost simplistic but that doesn’t make it less true.
@lukestrachan2704
@lukestrachan2704 6 жыл бұрын
Suspect is hatless! Just to be clear I don’t think Gerrard is as intelligent as Pep and Jose and therefore won’t be that level, but he can make a good manager I reckon, some of his personality traits are telling, he clearly has a lot of good qualities outside of the fact he was a good player.

We have to remember that the Carroll fee was explicitly linked to the fee Liverpool were getting from Chelsea for Torres. Also worth noting that this was all happening very late on with the transfer deadline looming; Liverpool were not expecting to lose Torres that January (Suarez was originally bought to play alongside Torres and might have been able to help Fernando regain lost form if he'd stayed).

No, but more of it was his fault than he's ever going to acknowledge. I was underwhelmed by his appointment, but at least had bought into the media story that he was a good guy. Turned out he wasn't even that (sucking up to Fergie, talking utter nonsense such as praising our display when we got thumped at Goodison Park and singling out players to take the blame that was rightfully his). A lot of people expressed surprise at how petulant and pathetic he was when he stepped down from England ("I don't even know why I'm here" at the press conference within an hour or so of defeat to Iceland), but it wasn't a shock to me. To this day Roy reportedly harbours a grudge about being badly treated whilst Liverpool manager. I wish when I screwed up at work I got paid millions to go away whilst my mates in the media did all they could to pretend that everyone else was responsible for my failure.

Should Woy have been given more time? Was it more a psychological issue with him not being a 'big' manager? Kenny's full season was awful, despite the cup runs.

Hodgson was woeful. Gerrard wanted the appointment which is why he's reserves about him. The signings were terrible, the performances were actually dire and the dealings with media and fans were an embarrassment.

Roy Hodgeson is and always will be a small club manager, his tactics are horrific to watch, he plays anti football and his philosophy is negative football where teams play with so much caution nothing can be achieved. He treats small clubs and small nations like he's playing Barcelona of 2011 and instills a mentality of fear in his players because of it and he's always done that. How he got the Liverpool job and destroyed the club during his time there i will never know.

Goddgson left the team just above the relagation zone. Dalglish took them to 2 cup finals & 7th place. His downfall was the purchase and reliance on inferior British players. Obviously, we had a 'transfer committee' to blame, as well.

True, all Dalglish did was dramatically improve morale, drag the team to a more respectable position in the league and win a trophy. But other than that he was every bit as bad as Hodgson...

I remember watch players like Glenn Johnson he didn’t even want the ball and would often just boot it across field to get it as far away from him as possible, but we needed hogdson at that time the club was a mess at the time and even king Kenny would have found it hard to turn it around and it could have damaged his reputation at the club.
@chrispalmer7893
@chrispalmer7893 Ай бұрын
Hodgson was never going to be the answer (particularly not if the problem was defenders just hoofing the ball; that's all Hodgson wanted his defenders to do with it). The biggest mess wasn't on the pitch, it was in the boardroom and no manager would have fixed that. I strongly suspect that the real appeal of Hodgson to Hicks and Gillette was that he was disposable. They were trying to sell the club and it was easier to do that if the new owners knew they could replace the manager with whoever they wanted without facing a fan backlash; it was a positive benefit that the fans weren't particularly keen on him.

Im a liverpool fan but i cant stand mcmanaman, he talks like hes something special, like hes up there with dalglish and rush, he left liverpool on a free, took madrids money, took them a year to realise he had the shot of a 6 year old girl same as raheem sterling, give me roy keane commentating every time, infact let keane run into the studio and give mcmanaman a 2 footed lunge , never thought a lfc fan would cheer a man utd legend on to cripple a lfc player but i wish he would and do owen at the same time aswell 😂
