Kyle, we, as Bolt owners, knew the charging speed for sure. 200 miles reliable range is more than okay driving daily for most of us. Once in a while I can wait to charge the battery... But nobody can beat the price...most of us want to drive electric but without spending a fortune for this!

Many fanatics think she's stupid. Why would they cancel something that sells well and all this noise? Updating the BOLT was necessary from a business standpoint and from a consumer angle too. Mostly updating that DCFC and perhaps make it the size of a Trailblazer or new Trax. Also, an inch or 2 higher off the ground.

The Bolt has been an affordable and practical introduction to EV life for so many folks, and it's great that GM is keeping it going, and working on a new one too. Keep it simple and affordable, it'll be another winner, and will encourage more manufacturers to build entry-level EVs.

Chevy should figure out a way to make the Bolt LFP (cheap, hard to damage) and double the charging rate. Even if it lost a little range, it'd be a great second car for lots of families looking for a first EV.

LFP or NMC doesn't make you lose or gain range. NMC can't be charged to 100%, while LFP can. So, it balances out. I would rather get LFP and not having to follow all those battery health guidelines.

Last week, I took a hiking trip that was a perfect example of why the Bolt is such a great car. Total round trip length was 150 miles and required nothing but home charging, so the Bolt's slow DC charging speeds didn't matter. The trip was a mixture of highway and back roads, and the Bolt was amazingly efficient on the back roads, logging a combined 4.6 mi/kWh for the entire round trip (including the highway sections), even with the air conditioner blasting on the way back. At the trailhead itself, the parking lot was full, but I was able to squeeze the Bolt into a narrow gap where only a Bolt could fit. Trailheads are also prone to vehicle vandalism, which makes me glad not to have a car like a Tesla, which would have been much more of a target, and much more expensive to repair if anything were to happen to it. The Bolt's hatchback layout was also perfect for getting a dog in and out of the car. And on the way back, again the Bolt shined, as regen made the long downhill stretches of road easy - no brakes, no low gear, just choose between gas pedal or cruise control, as if the road were flat. Trips like this is why the Bolt is such great value, and useful for far more beyond city driving. And, I am glad to see the Bolt being continued.

I have been a Bolt owner for over 5 years. To me it's simplicity and basic design are very big pluses. I lived in the Silicon Valley and worked in the semiconductor industry for over twenty years, and among other things, came away with was a real appreciation for the appropriate use of technology (e.g., implement features because they are needed, not just because you can), and the Bolt is probably the best incarnation of that philosophy in the American EV market today. The important controls are haptic and easy to use, and just add to the enjoyable driving experience. Why would I want "self-driving" when I enjoy driving the car so much myself (and this includes about a dozen 1,800 mile (3,000 km) round trips to Colorado and back. And yes, I got the email from GM this morning about the news, and I think it's great.

For even daily or weekly local trips it's great. Get home plug it in, and within 2-3hrs, back up to 85% then were ready for our next drive. In fact, MOST of us don't want to do that..... and if you 'enthusiast' journalists would stop drooling over the latest and greatest and start focusing on affordable transportation, you may find yourself with WAY more subscribers and views. Such reviews like yours and a few other people that have driven the Bolt helped save the affordable EV. I have had one since January this year and bought a Kia Niro EV only 3 months ago which my wife loves driving. We both use these vehicles as commuter vehicles and they are great going to and from work every day without ever stopping somewhere to get filled up. We took advantage of the Home Charging Credit from GM and we charge the cars at home for the most part. I also filled out several surveys about the Bolt and how useful it is and they did not market the vehicle for its strengths enough. At no time in -10 weather in Wisconsin does my spouse have to leave the car to fill it up.

Round trip: 1200 miles to Ohio 830 miles to Wisconsin 700 miles to St. Louis 1000 miles to Michigan Although DCFC is slow by comparison to other EVs, there's enough CCS chargers to make it work. We'll often do a 45 min 'charge & lunch' plus maybe a 30 min charge to get the rest of the way. So ... basically just adds 30 min to a regular gas car trip. We always stopped for lunch previously anyway. Now we eat and charge for lunch.

Love my Bolt EUV. It hauls kegs for my business, plus me from trailhead to trailhead. Good price!

You are correct, its the first car from Chevy that I've ever even paid any attention to in a very long time. Its not weird looking (like the Korean manufacturers) and very nicely equipped. Although range is important (300 mi.). BTW, mount the camera. Those shakes make me nauseous.

Gotta say the Nokian ONE tires and they're on my 2017 Chevy Bolt thus far 1,000 miles in very similar effiency right around 3.8 to 3.9 Mi/Kw. I am considering the Equinox 2LT as a slightly larger and AWD version with ultium and 150 KwH but likely keeping the bolt. I'll say this, in some cases, if you road trip this car, plan the trip around eating or sleeping and charging isn't an issue.... but long distance in a single day.... not so much.

My wife and I purchased a 2023 Chevy Bolt 2LT taking delivery 1/22/2023. We tried to make an order, ended up buying off a lot. The Bolt was a replacement for a 12 year old Honda Fit. At the time this is the only EV to rival the size and usefulness of the Fit. Missing the magic seats of course. We charge alternate weeks or every three weeks.

A lot of city dwellers with a 200mile EV will almost never need to visit a public charger. I think you overstate the importance of fast charging on a car in this segment -- keeping the cost and weight down is far more important.

I drove a Bolt EUV in NYC and I was quite impressed with it. The problem that I saw with it was there is way too much rear legroom and not enough trunk room. They need to make the rear seat movable and retractable to allow for more trunk space for 1 full size luggage at least. No complaints about charging speed for me at least. Hope Mary Barra sees this.

The Bolt does allow the rear seats to the folded down outright. Useful for those times when you're carrying bulky stuff, but don't need the back seat for passengers.

I hope the continue the Bolt EV and it’s hot hatch appeal. Reminds me of the Plymouth Colts you could get with a 5 speed back in the early 90’s. Other manufacturers had similar models. Small, can park anywhere, but food down seats and you can load up a decent day of shopping in it. Just hope don’t skip on some of the tech features like they are doing now.

They can keep the exterior, its recent refresh isn't bad looking. Besides giving it the Ultium tech, they should also reorganize the insides to allow for a frunk.

I think GM might be having battery production problems which played a role in the decision to keep the Bolt instead of switching to Silverado production.
@bmw803

Or perhaps that it might be a waste of batteries producing an expensive vehicle that a small number of buyers are interested. As Alex ( on Autos ) said, the BOLT is more important than the hummer, because it reaches out to the majority.

GM is worried about the new Tesla to be produced in Mexico. An updated Bolt that fixes the major shortcomings would seem likely a great competitor for what many call the Model 2.

Kyle, I think what people miss about Bolt is that it has 11.5kw 240 charging at home and many people could care less about DC fast charging speeds. I know that sounds crazy and I agree that even 125kw Dc charging speeds would make this car an EV value monster. Think about 39ish miles of range per hour, per night in charging capability at 11.5kw. You can literally fill it up every night if you need to. I had a Bolt EV and an EUV. The real range on them is around 190-200 miles. You can make that back at night in about 4 hours or so at 11.5 KW. So Bolt bad for Uber and Lyft drivers... pretty much, bad for long range/cross country trip takers...maybe if they don't like sitting and waiting on a DC charge... but the majority of everyone else in at least North America this car is more than enough for. They lose money on every Bolt but I'll bet ya' it's less than admitting that they cannot mass produce any other EV. they gain market share, talking points, convert clients to the brand, keep up federal incentives and fleet averages while limping along until they figure out Ultium in mass. It's a good car until you consider the price. Mary said recently that it is hard to make a profit on EV's under a price point and it will take more years to do it. This is a car with a positive image, high sales and it's already done. It is the top, value offering of the EV marketplace.

My guess is the EUV is going to be dropped since it kinda blends into the Equinox EV price range. If they can keep selling it at around the same price and double it's peak charging speed that's all it really needs.

As a 23 euv premier owner, I don't need dcfc because I charge 100% at home. The two things that need to be improved are a homelink option and interior hatch release. When I saw your video yelling at the GM building I was just thinking that Mary Barra was saying (Lets listen to that crazy guy out there.)

Yeeesssss!!! Here's hoping that the Ultium Bolt has RWD?! This would have better traction *and* a tighter turning circle. And every EV should have a direct heating windshield defroster. They can improve the aero drag - for more range for "free"!
