At 67 yrs old and having owned and maintained my own vehicles since high school, I NEVER would have imagined owning an electric car. I still have a ‘91 GMC truck that I ordered new! In Feb, 2023, my wife asked me to look at a Bolt for her. Reluctantly, I went to a dealer and test drove a 2020 with the replaced battery. Only 450 miles on the odometer and the 8 year warranty. Seems the car was a display model to showcase the EV. I was stunned at the performance. Like around 6 seconds for a 0-60. Reminded me of the muscle cars of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Had it a year now and we’ve been throughly pleased. We’re retired, so mostly in towns or short trips of 90-100 miles one way. We laugh every time we pass a gas station. We did a long 600 mile round trip once but not again. Lack of charging options in our rural state and long waits to charge make it really hard to plan a trip. We’ll use our gas burner for long trips.

Long trips are not hard. You just fail at planning your life better and refuse to get a little fresh air at appropriate times while driving. Why rush everywhere and not enjoy the journey? You're getting old bud, you should learn to soak in the moment instead of it letting it pass you by

Here in Mississippi, there’s not a lot of DC fast chargers, so planning a trip within the state is tricky. I know exactly what you mean about soaking it in. I’m the epitome of the “taking it easy lifestyle”. No set schedules or concentration on ETA’s. My wife and I prefer the 2-lane roads whenever possible, enjoying the small towns and hometown diners. We rarely go the speed limit, and all of our trips are without a radio playing. Last minute “hey, let’s stop and check that out” are common.

A long career in executive management and an MBA….I know how to research. I’ve drawn detailed schematics of the entire HV system, coolant loops, & drivetrain. I know how many teeth are on each gear of the rotor, counter gears and differential unit. I even drew a complete schematic of the HV battery, from 288 individual cells at 4.167v and 53.3 Ah with three each welded in parallel to create 96 cell packs at 4.167v and 160 Ah. These cell packs are then further connected in series to create modules, eight at 6.67 kWh, and two at 5.33 kWh, Total is 400v and 64 kWh. I think I know how to research a travel route! You will likely reply with more “expert” advice or a snarky comment, but I will fall on deaf ears.

A thing a lot of folks don't realize is that owning an EV for commuting/daily driving makes the ICE car they own (assuming a 2 car family) more efficient, also. That's because the ICE car becomes nearly exclusively a highway driver meaning operating it in the most efficient speeds, best gas mileage.

I’m in the same boat. We found a reasonably priced low mile older extended Lincoln Navigator that we just love. But we were wearing it out putting all our commuter miles on it. Bought a used EV and now put all our commuter miles on that and drive the lincoln occasionally to keep it fresh. I’ll be able to keep the Lincoln for years now because we aren’t putting many miles on it now and we love that. Only use it to pull trailers, road trips, and taking the family to Grandma’s for Sunday dinner.

that was my plan.. keep the gas car for the longer trips, but I liked the bolt so much we sold the 2015 crv and bought a 2nd bolt premiere. if we need to do more then a 300 mile day then I can rent. which is like once a year. actually I used to rent small POS gas cars for longer trips because I tended to put a lot of miles in a short amount of time. they would get better gas milage then my CRV and prior to covid the rental costs were insanely cheapo (like 20 to 50 a day) could save that much in gas alone, and have to do 0 maintence. So anyhow I took that method and will rent an ICE vehicle or faster charging EV if i really need to do some miles.

Yup, it's a bargain-hunter's dream. It's got everything you need for a fantastic (after tax credit) price. You get so many online reviews saying it accelerates slow at only ~6.5s 0-60. But they're comparing it against performance EVs. 6.5s blows most ICE cars away. Then they'll complain the top speed is governed to 93mph... who the hell wants to get a small car up above that!?!?! More review channels need to adapt their reviews based on the practicality and price of the car. Yes, compare the EV6 GT against things like corvettes, but compare the Bolt against things like the Cruze and Accord.

GM did upgrade AC charging speed for these 2022+ models though, to 11.8 kW IIRC -- which is pretty wild given most AC chargers still only supply about 6-7 kW.

GM has canceled the Bolt line of EVs. Too many people wanted them per GM. "We saw how people were really taking to the immense value of a low cost city EV and knew immediately that we had to cancel the Bolt line ASAP. The sales volumes indicated an unacceptable level of high satisfaction with one of our products" a GM spokesperson said. "We tried hard to turn off our customers by the use of piano black trim, but consumers looked past that" the spokesperson added. "Fortunately, we are eliminating Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with all future EVs to avoid a repeat of the Bolts unacceptable high sales and satisfaction numbers".

I’ve gone 84,500 miles in 5 years. The rotors look untouched. You do so much stopping with the motor. Maintenance is tires and cabin air filter. That’s it. I had one warranty claim and one repair out of warranty: the infotainment had what was probably a software error but the dealer just replaced the whole unit. Then I had to have the steering gear replaced for a broken pinion tooth. That was a bit disappointing. Overall very pleased and I’m planning to keep operating it for a while. The Lyriq solves all of the cheapness but we just bought a 4xE Wrangler Rubicon so I don’t need a new car for a while…

Really think GM was onto something by making an economy car EV. My biggest issues with the small economy cars has always been the absolutely miserable to use powertrain that almost felt dangerous to use and so loud when you need to floor it (basically anytime you'd want to merge onto a highway); EV power solves that
@kabloosh699
@kabloosh699 Жыл бұрын
My wife's Cruze I would say has enough power to comfortably merge on to the highway. I think it's around 150 hp. For small cars like that 150-200 hp is enough to get the job done for these kinds of things. Whatever gets you around a 6-8 second 0-60 time is where I would put acceptable acceleration for any vehicle. I wouldn't have a problem with faster acceleration but if it's at the cost of fuel economy in cars like this I would rather have the fuel economy.

And the heft of it being an EV makes you feel a little safer despite it being a small car. I could collide with a mid-sized SUV or normal pickup truck and it'd be an even match. As more and more cars become EVs though, that advantage will fade.

Picked up my ‘23 EUV in early February. I’ve only done 2800 miles, you’re really racking up the miles. Mine has only charged at home in the garage by the supplied Chevy 32A charger or my newer Emporia 40A charger. As a 60 YO auto and boat enthusiast, I burn a LOT of gas and don’t mind doing it. But this little electric car is a great driver and a LOT of fun to scoot around the local area and is saving the miles on my two ICE vehicles. I custom ordered mine late Jan, it showed up at the dealer 10 days later. $30,900 sticker, minus the $7500 tax rebate and minus my GM card earnings cash back of $2900, and my EUV became very inexpensive to purchase and operate 👍 Shout out to Jim Braat and Cole Chevrolet in Schoolcraft MI, where they do not up charge on ordered vehicles. P.S., I’m 6’ 4” and chose the EUV version for the 3” greater back seat room because I put my front seat ALL the way back.

I enjoy it so much that I look for reasons to go out so going out for groceries, hardware store, fast food, doctors visits etc. it’s fantastic. This weekend we traveled to a winery about 80 miles away to kind of test our range and highway driving and a great success again. It’s just slightly smaller than our CRV and just as comfortable or more so on the highway. I feel very comfortable among the large trucks and other traffic. The instant torque and pick up gets you out in the flow of traffic quickly and safely just zips along at any reasonable speed. We exceeded 80 when wanting to get around a big 18 wheeler. We Love This Car! Yes we save money but I consider it a premium drive. Actually ours is the EUV Supreme and it’s worth the difference for us. We love our 2023 Bolt EUV. We wanted a Bolt since they were introduced but unfortunately the seats were too uncomfortable and it felt a little cheap inside with all the hard plastics. We liked all the improvements when the 2022 refresh came out. Like you we wanted the most cost effective base model trim EV. We were going to buy one but the dealership was messing with the $$$ so we walked. This was right before the 2022 was included in the battery recall. So we kinda gave up. Then midyear we heard the batteries were finally being fixed and production would be starting up again. Then we heard about the 6500.00 price reductions...then the search began again. Found out the EUV offered ventilated seats and we kind of like the styling a little better. We got lucky and found the exact model, base with the upgrade packages at a local Phoenix dealer that offered us 500.00 off MSRP and accepted Costco $500.00 discount. Even got them to throw in window tint in the deal. No hassle purchase...the stars had finally aligned for us. Chevy now included the 220 charge cord and paid for the proper 220 outlet installed in garage! Last year was last of discounted EV registration fees here in Arizona too. We didn't wait till 2023 for the tax credit cause they wouldn't have applied to our tax situation. If you can find one at MSRP and take advantage of the tax credit their really a great deal.

I drive a '17 Bolt Premier with 60k miles. Overall, I really like the car. I agree with most of the comments in the video, especially that this is not the car for you if you road trip a lot. But, this is a great commuter car, and an outstanding value. I never once had to DC fast charge the car. The other negatives for me, that have not been resolved by GM in the refresh, are the rough ride, disappointing handling, and poor traction in rain. The OEM tires are great for efficiency, but sacrifice everything else. The reviewers are right about the climate control being very fussy. I'm constantly fiddling with the climate controls. It rapidly switches between blowing hot and cold air, which gets very annoying.

I don't get why so many reviews of this car complain about the looks and spend so much time talking about it. It doesn't look much different from other small SUVs, and I think my 2017 looks pretty nice. And, it's a car. A car this good would have to be pretty ugly to prevent me from buying it. And the mileage? It is April 23 in Maine and I've averaged 4.7 miles per kilowatt hours over the past 1000 miles. That's an actual range of over 300 miles with the replacement battery. This in very mixed driving. Last summer in similar driving it was 5.5. On the highway in the summer it is still over 4. Pretty nice. As for road-tripping, I know a lot of people want to drive as far as possible and stop for as short a time as possible, but it is definitely works for me, because I would stop every 100-150 miles anyway to stretch, get some exercise, and hit the head. I make sure that happens at a location with multiple chargers, a nearby bathroom, and food. I also travel with a mandolin and a book so I can pass the time if necessary. However, I'm not usually charging from less than 50%, so it doesn't take all that long. In the year I've had the car I've driven from Maine to Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Hartford, and Western Mass. I plan to drive to the Hudson River valley then on to Niagara Falls this summer. So, for people like me who like travel to be leisurely, the charge time is not usually an inconvenience.

on other reviews Roman has said some un-educated stuff that annoyed me. THe bottom line is that we need to be optimistic about EVs becuse there is so much mis-information out there. sure we can be real about things and state the downsides, but most of the downsides have an upside to. if you look at how much time is saved in daily life by a car like a bolt. (no going to gas stations, basically 0 maitence, 1/4 ot so cost per mile to power. batteries that will ast 300k easily. then the only legimate negative is the charging speed. but the way I look at it. for the 4 days a year the car will actually slow me down while its charging I can think about how much time it saves me in daily life,, and that by far. in a magnatitude of days per year that it saves. charging for a couple of hours longer is not a big deal.

I smiled when you mentioned the fan speed on Auto, because the first generation is the same way. Don't know why it's set up that way. First generation, 2020 Bolt LT here, a very basic car with only DCFC and Comfort/Convenience. Since December 2020, never had the first problem, never had to go back to the dealer for anything. Just rotate the tyres and replace the cabin filter occasionally. I wish that Chevy could give the world more of these, because they are the obvious solution for so many of us.

I have an early’17 Bolt & I agree with most of what you say. Of course I had the battery replaced in ‘22 so my battery warranty is good until’30. And I scrapped the low grip tires for performance tires & now the car is transformed into a great handling car that is a lot safer in the wet & I don’t even notice the drop in range. Safety trumps range! Other than a few glitches with the entertainment system, I have had no problems in almost 8 years. The 12volt battery finally gave up after 7 1/2 years & I did have to replace the brake rotors due to corrosion not wear.

We have had our 2017 now for a Year and a half, we have put over 20,000 miles on it without one single problem. The DCFC rate is not an issue for us because most of our driving is within 220 miles of home, and on the few occasions we have gone farther we have stopped for 15-30 minutes to get enough charge to get home with some in reserve. In my opinion buying a Bolt EV either new or used is a winner, it’s the perfect second car.

The biggest complain that I have about my 2023 Bolt EUV is the location of 12V outlet and front USB ports. If you connect anything to the 12V outlet or USB, you really can't use the wireless charger since your phone will not fit in the space which is right below the USB and 12V connectors. Other than that, it has been great so far in my 4100 miles experience with it. In city, I get around 4.5 miles/kwh.

Just bought a 2023 Bolt EV LT2 this week. Love it. It's the best value out there and the extra money for the adaptive cruise, 360 camera, heated leather seats and steering wheel and Bose system was worth it. But you can also add the $995 comfort and convience package to get the heated cloth seats, steering wheel and auto dimming mirror on the LT1. I know that doesn't make it the cheapest, but helps get more range by using the HVAC less. Can't wait for my big tax refund next year.

Tommy only had an issue with apple car play once? I rented a Chevy Impala back in January, it was my first experience with Android Auto. Stupid thing would always disconnect for what seems no reason. I would be out in the middle of nowhere, with no one around and it would just disconnect, and sometimes take a few minutes to reconnect. What made it worse was it would seem to do it just as I'm getting close to where I needed google maps the most for where to turn and which direction. I was on back 2 lane roads in Texas, not on freeways.

I purchased a 2020 Bolt Lt new in 2020. 32,000 miles. Just replaced my 2nd cabin air filter. That’s it. Still awaiting a new battery from GM but I only put on 50-90 miles a day at most and I charge to 80% every night. Winter saw 3.2 kw/mile, but still I had plenty of range even while using the heater. Spring summer and fall I average 4.7 kw/mile. Love this car. DCFC is a bit of a challenge but I have 32,000 mile on it and have only used a fast charger 10 times. So for me the slow DCFC is not an issue.

I bought a USED Bolt EUV based on your review. I drove a base Model 3. I realized that the Model 3 has faster charging and a ubiquitous charging network, but despite all that I judged the Bolt to be a more user friendly and comfortable car. Since I bought it, it is among my favorite ever everyday drivers up there with my 2013 Honda Accord Sport and my last car, a Mazda CX-30. I’m driving Uber now and the back seat gives my riders huge legroom. The rear storage isn’t as big as say my (smallish) CX-30 or the Accord’s cavernous trunk, but it is enough room for a couple bags when I pick folks up from the airport. I love that it is easy to see out of, it is zippy quick around town, it’s easy to park, and it’s comfortable. I don’t even mind the handling. The weight is down low so it corners flat. I don’t get any input through the steering wheel but the steering wheel feels good, it has some heft, I know where the wheels are and this little CUV will carry speed through corners like a sedan. It’s not sporty per se, it’s not sports car fun nor is it toss-able like my old Accord and CX-30 (I had the Turbo premium and I think that car is the best driving CUV this side of a Porsche Macan. I do miss my CX-30 as it handled nearly as well as my Accord, the turbo was as fast as genuine hot hatchbacks like a GTI, and the interior was as nice as anything this side of an Audi, but I digress…) but it does carry speed on on-ramps and with its point and shoot speed, it will always merge with fast traffic into the smallest available holes in traffic. It feels like it is well put together. My riders often fall asleep in the car as it is quiet and has a nice ride for a small car and I get compliments on the comfort of the back seat from my riders. I charge at home. I think the car’s usable range is more like 220 miles. In stop and go I can stretch that out to 234 miles to get to 20% charge. Theoretically I think that I could drive 260 miles on a full charge but I wouldn’t try that. It’s range is enough for 99% of my needs. If I go on a long trip, I’ll fly and rent a car at my destination. I think the car would be fine, however for a 400 mile trip in areas where charger networks are available, drive 200 miles, charge 47 minutes to get from 20 to 80% charge, and you have enough miles to complete your trip. Make it a lunch and a potty break. Anyway, I like the car. I look forward to the Ultium platform. I hope that with the new platform that they keep fwd, that charging times are cut in half and that the usable range increases to 315 miles and that it will be priced so that with the $7,500 tax incentive, that a car with leather, heated and cooled seats and Super Cruise can be had for around $30k net (IE content heavy and a little less expensive than the Equinox EV). Those simple improvements would be enough for me to make a trade-in.

Only 220 miles for 80% charge?? On mine I did a mixture of mostly highway and some city miles. Some 37 degree days but mostly low 50s. 229.2 miles, 51 kWh used. Why do you want Bolt to stay FWD?😂 Have you not been behind a the wheel of a RWD only EV? Vastly superior in terms of tractions and control in my opinion. Ideally AWD would be nice but I would prefer RWD for less wheel spin. The bolt is decent for what it is but you can't have too much fun with it.

Got my 2LT two weeks ago at MSRP, and had my free level 2 charger installed yesterday. I'm thrilled with the adaptive cruise control, remote start/heat in the garage, and knowing I'll never need a brake job. It actually has a smoother ride than the Cadillac XTS I replaced. Only the Bose audio is a significant step backward from the Caddy. But...dealers gotta go. They offer no more benefit than a "Buy now" button on a web site. In fact, that would have been much easier.

Great review. During April in metro Atlanta, have not needed climate control much and have been consistently getting 5.3 miles per kWh. That’s resulted in 340-345 miles per charge. In the coldest week of this winter with temps in the teens, was getting 2.8-3 miles per kWh resulting in range of about 185-200 miles. But, that was just during the few coldest days of the year. Mine is the EUV which is rated about 10 miles less than the regular Bolt due to being bigger and heavier.

Good Video. I am glad that the Bolt is finally getting the recognition it deserves. It would fit my driving needs perfectly. I would do 99% of my charging at home and based off my driving habits it would be perfect. However, when I pencil how much it would cost to get a bolt compared to what I am driving now, I would "never" hit the breakeven point. + I really like what my current vehicle is. If I needed a vehicle, that would be a different story. I understand why dealerships do Market Adjustments. No one ever say's anything about the vehicles the dealers had on the lot that sat forever and end up costing the dealerships several hundred to thousands of dollars in floor plan and lost incentives. Still, adding market adjustments is very short term thinking and customers do feel the dealership is ripping them off. It's a major customer dissatisfier. Cheers!!!

for my 2nd bolt, it was all about the math. we had a 2015 CRV. it needed abotu 2k of work (new tires and general maintence. nothing crazy) I found a high milage 2017 bolt premiere for 17,500 last fall. the CRV was worth 15,500 at the time. the 2k difference was roughtly the work i needed to put into the CRV and the takes and tags and such would be made up for by gas and maintence savings. the fact that even though it was high milage (olver 100k) the bolt had a new 100k warrenty on the battery gave me some piece of mine. if your car is worth 10k and you can find a high milage bolt for 17k or so it may not take as long for to pay for itself as you think. Granted I did obsess over the gas prices and charging costs and predicted maitence.. now with 2x bolts its really a game changer. they are way, way better then I would have imagined. I've drive nearly 60k between the 2 of them and paid 0, thats right 0 in maitence and only about 100 bucks in charging (i charge both of our bolts at work for free)

About a month ago I bought a 2017 Bolt with a new battery. With the $4000 tax credit it was under $19,000, plus in Washington we have no sales tax on the first $16,000. Mine is the same color as yours which I also like. I didn't want to wait for a new Bolt in part because my tax bill was close to the full used car credit. That means I wouldn't get the full new car $7500 credit, I'd get the same as what I got for the used one. Plus I just didn't want to wait any longer and I'm really happy with that choice. Seems like a software update could give battery % on screen and maybe even give you that puny 50kw charging speed up to 80%.

We have a 2022 LT2 that we have driven for 10,000 miles already. We love it. I felt this was a very accurate review. The only serious downside is the DC fast charging speed. But that only matters on long trips or if you can't charge overnight. For us we only take 2 to 4 trips a year that would require us to need to DC charge. To get something that chargers faster you are looking at spending at least $10,000 more. For that type of money I can wait longer while it charges. Or if time is really important we will just use our other ICE car. If we didn't have a 2nd car we could use some of that $10,000 we saved to rent an ICE car. I would recommend the car. In fact, one of my wife's coworkers just bought one after we recommended it.

I managed to sell the Prius for more than I paid for the Bolt(including taxes) & paid for setting up a Wallbox Level2 charger that is used on the street, no driveway/garage. I'd not havegotten the Bolt had it not been for the price I paid for it, it delivers value for what i paid for it. We replaced a pickup truck that got 14 mpg with a Bolt 2LT that has leather and heated seats, etc. My wife has an SUV hybrid so we're taken care of for a long trip - so I don't ever drive it more than say 60-70 miles from home. Within that context this is probably the most convenient and cheapest to own car I can imagine. Zero maintenance, they installed my charger, it is fairly quick though traction-limited, and extremely easy to park and drive. If I had 1 wish for it, I'd like to have a front seat that folds flat so that Ikea runs could more easily include a few longer items. Beyond that, I wish I'd been able to get the Bose speakers because they weren't expensive and probably sound better. Overall, this is a great car for the people like me who can adjust easily to it's limitations. The savings of payment and fuel are about $500 a month vs. my old truck.

I just bought a 2017 Bolt Premium as my beloved 2022 EV6 GT-line has somehow become my GF's car. After experiencing all the joys of BEV ownership, I had no choice but to buy another, rather than drive my first-gen Toyota Tundra. I found a meticulously maintained, low mileage version on a local Hyundai dealer lot, which qualifies me for the IRA $4K used EV tax credit. I absolutely love this car! It's quick, handles well and has a ton of advanced features that it shares with the Kia. The EV6 does the long road trips and the truck tows the trailer and goes to the dump. My Bolt, nicknamed "BD" after my late father, is a total joy and with it's fresh battery, long range, low price, Apple Car Play and a tax break, there is no other comparable option if you want a second EV for running around town! I think they'll become almost collector items once GM halts production later this year. Don't think, just go buy one.

It drives good for a commuter car, very efficient and because of the efficiency you don't always have to stop, where others do. I refer to the test you guys did with the Tesla, Kia and Volvo. Other than the Tesla, the 2 other would have lost time to fast charge while you could keep driving.

Just purchased a Bolt EUV for $15K. I’ve mentioned this before on another Bolt video you made, but thanks for putting these out! Never thought I’d buy a new car in the world where the average purchase price is nearing $50K.

Excellent video as usual. I've been waiting for my Bolt since December. I've heard the wait is anywhere from 4 months to 10 months. I've ordered the no option model as well. I could buy a Bolt today, but I absolutely refuse to pay dealership mark up. 🚙 🇺🇸 🔌

What the haters don't understand is that the battery tech, range, and support infrastructure is just going to get better and better. Just like when ICE cars first came out and all the horse riders laughed and sneered at that smoky contraption.

I love my 2020 Bolt! Fun to drive, cheap to run, big inside and small outside, etc. The only two complaints i have are uncomfy front seats and slow DC fast charge speed. The seats were fixed on the refreshed (2022+) generation, but DCFC speed was not. But i only do a couple really major road trips a year, and i tend to stop to pee a lot anyway, lol, so that's not the end of the world.

I purchased a 2022 BOLT EUV premier back in August 2022. I ran across the car by accident after an Idiot ordered the car, waited for it to come in, and because the factory floor mats didn't come in with the car. Demanded the dealership refund the mats which they couldn't so he demanded a full refund of his deposit. They did and I just happen to see the car online the same day and went down with the title to my 2018 VOLT Premier, checkbook, and car registration and bought the car without even test-driving it. Love the car and it has a lot of the toys my 2017 Cadillac CT6 -Hybrid- plug-in had. With gas prices topping $3.76 a gallon for regular and having a home Level Two charger it's like having money in the bank. Also, my power company gives $10 a month back on my bill for setting the car to charge during off-peak hours. The car is great for running around town and I have had it as far as ORLANDO & TAMPA and home here in MID-Point Florida on a 100% charge. The bad thing is you feel every bump, pothole, and railroad crossing. G.M. Gave me $6300 off the sticker price and an additional $500 off for my Military service time. For our longer trips out of town, we take our full-size Honda Ridgeline RTL-E truck that rides as well as the caddy ever did, What we save around town in gas expenses we can well afford a trip in the truck. Rumor had it that Florida was going to charge a special road tax on EV's. I just renewed both vehicles tags for 2 years each and I'm good until June 2025..

I fully agree to this video. I drive an Opel Ampera-E, under which name it was sold in Europe which is exactly the same car (the previous version though). I traded in my Nissan leaf for this because of my two ever expanding teenagers 🙂. They have excellent legroom in the back, which is exceptional: in so many EVs the back seat is too low or the floor too high because of the battery pack. No problem here. Great little car with all the bells and whistles for a very small price (though it was crazy expensive when it entered the market.) Now Opel has moved from GM to Stellantis and therefore the updated version is not available here, which is a shame. Strange though that they still only offer 50 kw DC charging. It's glacial.

Got a used 2023 Bolt EV 1LT (1,150 miles) with heated seats & steering wheel for $28,750... not an insane deal but there was no other in 500 miles from me (south texas) Oh! Greatest thing about the car is.... I was able to get 4.7 miles per KWH, around 300 miles of range in this tiny little thing, that's just amazing.

I have 26k on my 2021 base model. No problems, I rotate the tires myself so no dealer trips. I drive 50 -100 miles a day, 120 outlet charging not problem. 8$ to charge my battery from home 200 miles a charge in winter with heater on 300+ miles a charge in summer is easy with a light foot and no ac. Sure beats paying $60+ to fill up a gas tank. 2.5 sec 30-50 makes passing a breeze.

I bought a used 2017 bolt before the recall went out. Oh the recall days on the battery were rough. I got my replacement pack over a year ago and even with the slow charging it’s awesome! For the trips I take I go and change at EA and walk to a nearby restaurant. The car finishes chattering by the time my gf, my dog, and I finish eating and then drive back home. I ended up with the premier and the heated seats (yes heated rear seats too), heated steering wheel, the hvac system all preform amazing! They are savage on range which is why I precondition the car but the car is great! I keep trying to replace it but newer evs with all the bells and whistles just don’t compel me enough to spend that kind of money! Also, I know I would lose a little range but I wonder what Tommy thinks about the crossclimate 2’s on the bolt?

For the price, it is very good. I have and EV6 Wind AWD for 1 year. I get just about the same lifetime efficiency over the past 27k miles of 3.5 m/kWh. I can get low to mid 4’s just like the bolt in the warmer weather, but it does drop to high 2’s to low 3’s in the cold. Difference is the EV6 is bigger and AWD. Price tag is higher to go with it and it no longer qualifies for the tax rebate. The biggest advantage the EV6 has is the charging speed. Being able to charge 10%-80% in as little of 18 minutes makes a big difference. Seeing that I have done 27k miles in the past year I obviously do a lot of driving and need to DC fast charge often.

I currently own a BMW i3 REX and coming from it the slow charging wouldn't really bother me since it would have more range and the i3 has the same peak charge rate. However, the features I'd miss would be heated seats and auto wipers. It will hopefully be a long time before I feel like replacing my i3. My next car will definitely be an EV and by the time I'm ready there will be some really cool cars to choose from.

I test drove a used 2017 and a new 2021. I fell in love with the size, shape, price and drivability. To me, what a great vehicle for the price. Just wish it had a bit more range. Sadly whilst signing the papers for purchase, the finance guy talked me out of it, and into an ICE vehicle. Sadly I hate it and would love to get into an EV, there’s no money to do it. I don’t qualify for the full tax credit. ;( Thanks for all the great videos! Keep up the great work.

Starting on Jan 1, 2024 until Dec 31, 2032, they can knock the $7500 Federal tax credit off the cost of the car at time of sale. Basically the dealer claims your tax credit, and they're supposed to pass it onto you in the form of knocking $7500 (or whatever the EV is eligible for) off the stick price. Hopefully they don't screw around with this by raising the price $7500 first.
