This rhythm is called montuno/guajira played a lot in Cuba and Puerto Rico. It's not cha cha cha, but you can dance cha cha cha to it. Song is written by Lin Manuel Miranda using a style that combines many characters in musical theater at a particular plot point to express various perspectives of an event, like the song about the rumble in West Side Story or the song One Day More in Les Miserables. Miranda uses the same technique in songs in his musicals In The Heights (96,000) and in Hamilton (Non Stop). That's how you get so much singing and so much information from so many characters all in just four minutes, all over a montuno beat that keeps it all together. It's like in salsa music. As long as you have the 3 2 or the 2 3 percussive beat (or clave, we call it), all kinds of voices and instruments can be doing their own thing complementing one another as the clave keeps it all together and in sync.

@ivanroman8970
@ivanroman8970 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry Eric Schwenke, but WDTAB is not cumbia. I have listened to salsa, montuno, merengue, cumbia, and many other rhythms for decades and it is not cumbia. It's more of a montuno/guajira, which many other musicians will attest. In Colombia they also play montuno like they do son and salsa and many other types of music so finding this as you immerse yourself in Colombian music and culture would be common. Other songs in Encanto are definitely cumbia, though.

When it shifts from Isabela to Dolores at 6:35 there's the sound of a harp, probably a Paraguayan harp. it makes a nice transition. Another thing to notice is that even though Bruno disappeared 10 years ago, Dolores (the quiet one) talks abut hearing him in the present tense. I'm not sure if this song is more a madrigal or a fugue.

Definitely not fugue. Fugure can have several melodies and counter-melodies but they are built from a single theme and provide variations where a melody also is played higher and lower; the singing parts in the movie are definitely all their own parts and there is no "development" although the final part feels like a recapitulation. Also many other distinct characteristics of a fugue (overlaying the lines played slower and faster) are missing. (It's a madrigal.)

@Valandar2
@Valandar2 2 жыл бұрын
I TOTALLY disagree. Notice the wording - her power would grow like GREAPES thrive on the vine. The "life of her dreams" is what it is like at the END of the movie, not during it. "Will Someday", you know.
@FlammySpritz
@FlammySpritz 2 жыл бұрын
I actually think Bruno's prophecy for Isabella was supposed to be a disaster, like for everyone else. He probably saw the "What Else Can I Do" moment, where she's 'losing control' in a way that would absolutely be in line with Bruno's disaster predictions as far as everyone's expectations for her is concerned. But because Isabella doesn't like her life, the 'disaster' prediction is actually the life of her dreams. And as a bonus, she sings about it like he gave her a great prediction, making it seem like she's the exception to his 'bad prophecies' and reinforcing her 'Golden Child' typing, to throw the audience off her dissatisfaction more
@Gigglepud
@Gigglepud 2 жыл бұрын
@@FlammySpritz hm... I don't think so, because Bruno's prophecy can be a physical thing. She can't just admit to a disaster scene being the life of her dreams because very likely Abuela and her parents have seen it. So it's more likely its something with the Betrothal guy, which is killing her inside, but she has to pretend to be happy about it. Which would make this align with every other person in this song, getting a prophecy they didn't want to see.
@DVSLEO
@DVSLEO 2 жыл бұрын
@@Valandar2 he said her power would grow like grapes on the vine, at the time she was singing it had not. He said she would have the life of her dreams, but at this time she was being forced into marriage. So what Bruno was telling her was true, but she took it as not true, cause of her current situation she is stuck in.

The basic music genre of this song is actually Cuban "son montuno" ('nice sound from the mount'), which influenced salsa, but is slower and deeper, like Santana's "Smooth" and Camila Cabello's "Havana". The "son cubano" is appreciated all around Colombia, specially in the Valle region, around Cali and Buenaventura, near the Pacific Ocean.

My first reaction to the song was completely different from anyone’s I know. As soon as Pepa said, “Bruno walks in with a mischievous grin,” I almost broke into tears as I asked, “Why do they hate him so much?” I asked this because this is pretty much how I was treated in my family, so I was able to automatically tell the signs of similar abuse in my life. I guess I was an easy target. I probably would’ve cried through this whole song if they didn’t have some relievers, such as “You telling the story or am I?” “I’m sorry mi vida, go on,” overhearing Dolores’s “Do you understand?” and Isabela’s vanity scene, these scenes are what kept me from crying, so Disney did very well on including them. The whole time I watched the song the first time, I kept repeating, “Why do they hate him?” because it’s exactly how I felt when my family and peers would talk about me right in front of me. It hurt more later after discovering where Bruno was living, knowing that he likely heard everything. It’s not the normal reaction, I’ve seen, I know. Most people just enjoy the music, beat, voices, visuals, and some just think how bad Bruno must be or simply that he’s not as bad as people think, but I’ve never seen anyone with my reaction. So, what I think about the song is I love the music and I can dance to it now, but after seeing the movie and knowing Bruno, I actually do cry now. It’s one of my top three favorites from the movie.
@fernglade

The song itself didn't really get me, but after meeting Bruno in person, every scene including him made me cry my eyes out, because of his pain and how he clearly feels like a burden his family doesn't need. And he loves them and still wants to be included

BECAUSE at the time of Frozen, billboard didn’t include streaming in its charting. Let it go was charting at number 5 solely from single sales on iTunes, because you can only buy a song once, whereas each repeated stream on Spotify counts towards the total. If they’d included Spotify etc at the time, it would be about equivalent between the two. AWNW, however, tracked from the radio play of the radio single, by Peabo Bryson. NOT the version from the movie.

I am an only child as well. I do feel the pressure from my family to be perfect because I'm the only one from both of my parents and I feel like being a disappointing child has meant that they've failed and I just can't have it

Dolores’ part is most like a rap part, which is a strong stylistic marker for the composer, Lin Manuel Miranda

I'd love to see your react to the Spanish version if you haven't yet, if you like the accent! Not only because it's my native language, but I do believe the song sounds a lot more 'latina' you could say haha

@@RockSpace personally I don't like surface pressure that much, i know that is one of the people's favorites but idk is just not growing in me maybe is cause English is not my first language idk or maybe is bc is the only song that sounds the least latin American vibe and more American pop, but my favorites from Encanto are waiting on a miracle, what else can I do, we don't talk about Bruno, family madrigal and all of you❤️
