I'm Sicilian and grew up watching my mom, grandmothers and dad cooking Italian cookies for Christmas. One of the cookies were fig cakes and still remember the assembly line we had in the kitchen. Watching you cook and listening to you talk brings back such amazing memories for me. I lost my grandmother 3 1/2 yrs ago (108 yrs old) and my dad last year. Nonna Gina, My Nonna called those "biscotti per azienda, cookies for company. . The almond paste and the pignoli are expensive. We would each get one. Thank you so much for bringing my past alive. My Favorite cookie. My dad had a butcher shop in the 60'S and had this spice rack on the counter with Pignoli nuts in the little jars I used to take them and eat them and he used to say i was eating his profits.

My daughter has fallen in love with you, as have I. She says you are always happy, and that's significant for her as she never loved cooking. You make her want to go in the kitchen and try your recipes. She is vegan, dairy free, and gluten free but she loves baked goods. This recipe is perfect for her. Happy Thanksgiving Nona Gina! These were my loving dads all time favorite cookie, May he Rest In Peace. I watched this video and as I always comment, you sound exactly like my beautiful Nona (my dads mom) who lived with us until she passed, we were very blessed to have her with us growing up and to have our kids know her. Today brings back wonderful memories of her making potato crocet, fried apples, sauté mushrooms and garlic and these cookies. Love it, love almonds and pignoli in any form. I still use my mother's tools including her mixer bought in the 60s, the hand tools are much older. Gina touches many hearts including mine. Birdy
