Hi Sweet Friends, My mother made these cookies every Christmas and they were always my absolute favorite! I'd love to hear about what are some of your favorite Christmas cookies? To bake...and to eat! Love, Mary

Mom does these all year round for special occasions. She rolls the dough into long ropes and makes the cookies into a knot, then glazes and sprinkles. I remember as a child, the dining room table always lined with parchment paper as she drizzled the glaze and my job was to put the sprinkles on top. Then when the glaze hardened, she would come and scoop them off to put into Tupperware containers, and then came my favorite part - licking the left over icing that was left behind after dripping off the cookies!

Mary, the 🇮🇹 Italian Sprinkles are called: “#Granella di #Zucchero” usually refers to bits of Chocolate, but in this case it’s SUGAR. It can be bits of anything or grains of nuts 🥜 or fruit🍌, whatever! I just followed your recipe out of the 20 or 30 I watched. My cookies were magnificent. Oh! To get them a bit smoother when dough was ready, I made 2 changes. First I rolled the cookie dough into balls between my palms (thoroughly washed hands😆) Then dipped my finger into a small bowl of lemon juice, & with 1-2 drops, smoothed the dough before baking. They came out totally round & very smooth. Really like your easy glaze too. They are... 🇮🇹 molto delizioso 🇮🇹 Grazie 🙏

Oh my goodness, I can't wait to try these. My mother was Italian and made Anise cookies at Christmas, but her recipe was much different. These seem much lighter and fluffier in texture and will surely be a hit with the family. Thank you dear Mary.

I’ve never eaten ricotta cheese before. But these cookies look delicious. I may have to try this recipe, it definitely has me intrigued. 💖

Catherine's Plate - Hi Catherine!! I love ricotta cheese. I used to eat by the spoonfuls as a kid. If you make this cookie, refrigerate the dough for a few hours and then roll them into balls so they’ll all be uniform. I was rushing for filming purposes but the dough is easier to work with when cold. Love, Mary❤️😘❤️

This is like a God Send as I have that ricotta and was trying to think what I could do with it before it goes bad. He bought a big one for Saturday night lasagna. I'm so going to do this I actually have everything for this on hand. Thanks so much for sharing Mary! This will be perfect.

Deb Allen - Hi Deb, and I’ll share with you a tip… If you have the time refrigerate the dough so that it is easier to work with and roll into actual balls. Since I was filming I was a bit rushed but if you refrigerate the dough for a few hours… Or even overnight… And then the next day take it by teaspoonfuls and roll it into a ball, they’ll all bake up more similar in shape. But either way they’re delicious - there as light as clouds! Thank you so much for visiting… Your comments always means so much to me! Love, Mary❤️😘❤️

Hi Mary, can I use lemon juice in the cookie dough instead of the lemon extract. I’ve not seen the extract in the grocery stores here in Australia. Hope you well and have a lovely Xmas with your family 🎄

My father was the baker in the family but he died of Lou Gehrig's Disease at age 40 February 1996. He didn't fix any cookies for Christmas but pies. My favorite was and still is if I alter the ingredients a little. My father's recipe is a graham cracker crust, a blend of cream cheese and whipped cream with some sugar and vanilla extract in the middle, and cherry pie topping on top. Since I've liked sugar less as I've gotten older that version is too sweet for me. I omit the sugar as the other ingredients taste fine as is and since Lee's and my son Daniel doesn't like cherries I usually do strawberries or apples which Daniel prefers and all three of us like. Lee's favorite is cherries or pecans. Mine is cranberries or peaches. I'll try I doing mini pies of our favorites soon. For cookies we prefer chocolate chip with walnuts.
