Great video, but not that I mind, I still think that frying the garlic in oil counts as having oil. I have cooked garlic in a pan with just water before, and it turns out fine. Still a great, simple recipe! :)

Really? In the UK! Wow, I am living in North West, where are you guys from? And hopefully more people in the area will become aware of veganism and healthy lifestyle in general.

@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
Val Caddy Hi, thanks for your comment. The fact that you can't stand garlic is definitely not unusual. In fact, many people don't like garlic at all in their food. The good news is that you can certainly substitute it with onions (or simply omit it) and I promise that the sauce will come out just as good. I hope this answers your question ;) Thanks for watching!

In the beginning of the video you said that some Italians leave the garlic clove whole so they can remove it later. If I wanted to do the same would I remove it at the end just before I add the basil leaves? Thanks!
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 10 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comments and for showing appreciation for our work. To answer your question: leave the garlic in until the sauce is completed and then remove. However, make sure not to press it with the spatula/spoon or it will disintegrate and you will not be able to remove it.

I wanted tomato soup so I thought "I bet the vegan corner has the best recipe on that." And then I found nothing. How can you not have a tomato soup recipe? :O
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
Björg Kristjánsdóttir That's a good question. I guess that the reason is because in italy tomato soups are not popular at all, and in fact, I've never seen them served in a restaurant. If I'm not familiar with a dish, it is not the first thing that comes to mind when I'm about to make a video recipe. I'll see what I can do in the future. Thanks for watching

@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
Renee Joy Thank you very much and well done, I hope you'll go 100% vegan at some point :) In regard to your question, is because the majority of the viewers of this channel eat a diet very low in salt (like we do) and are happy with the natural sapidity of the foods. However, feel free to add all the salt you desire to better match your specific tastebuds ;) I hope this answers your question and thank you again for watching.

I have a doubt if I'm using normal tomatoes am I supposed to peel/deseed it?
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
sai viji That depends from the kind of tomato sauce you want to obtain. Personally the only thing I would remove are the skins, as they don't have a pleasant taste when cooked. The part with the seeds is the one that gives the acidity to the sauce, so once again it is up to you if you want to remove it or not. I hope this helps :) Thanks for watching

Hi Raoul! You and Miriam are like my fantasy come to life! haha. I have been thinking for a while, we need a great chef to turn vegan and create some recipes for us. And that you're Italian (I'm half, myself) you're a dream come true for me! Where are you guys? My question... now that I've got my gushing out of the way...is whether there's a reason not to use passata with the sauce; and also, my dad always used onion, but you didn't. Is it just preference? I'm loving your channel. Thanks for making it! You have such a nice warm manner...
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
Aurora Rei Hi Aurora, thanks for your lovely comment! We live in the cold Scotland at the moment. In regard to your other question, passata is very thick and it has already been thoroughly cooked, which means that there is very little room for improvement as you can't cook it for a long time. Tinned tomatoes are cooked as well, but they have simply been pasteurized so they are basically still as juicy as when they were raw. Like the majority of Italian chefs, I'm not a fan of passata and I basically never use it. However, that is a personal choice and you can certainly make use of passata in your recipes if you feel it is appropriate. Thanks for watching and for your kind words, very much appreciated :)
@aurorarei1774
@aurorarei1774 9 жыл бұрын
+The Vegan Corner Thank you for taking the time to reply. Interesting about the passata, I didn't know that. Yes, my father would also be less than impressed I was using it! It's so easy though, and I've found a very good one from Italy. I also get concerned about the acidity of the tomatoes in the tins. I'm really looking forward to your pizza recipe, with the mozzarella you posted earlier. Very exciting :) Many thanks from Australia.

Hi, i love your videos!! Everything looks so delicious! Please keep up the good work. I'm in Singapore and we have fresh tomatoes all year round. May i know if I were to used fresh tomatoes, what type should i used? And do i need to remove the skin? Many thanks!
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
Chua Xuan Yi If you want to use fresh tomatoes you can either keep the tomatoes skin and remove it after the cooking process by passing the sauce through a sieve, or make a tomato concasse first (have a look on google to see what it is if you don't know) and then use the fresh tomatoes for the sauce. The best tomato varieties are generally plum ones, but I obtained amazing results with almost any ripe tomatoes available. I hope this helps :) Thanks for watching!

I am surprised by your claim that no oil was used. If you measure the amount put into the pot, with fine scales, and the amout collected after frying the garlic, the weight woul have decreased, since the garlic would have absorbed some of the oil.
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
Stephen Saliba I commonly use laboratory scales in my kitchen and I surely know how much oil stays within the garlic once it has been fried. Well, I guess you are right; there is 0.5 gram of oil in the entire recipe.

theinstigatorr Very easily actually! Basically you move it to a pan as soon as it is cooked, adjust salt if desired, tip in the cooked pasta and sauté to obtain the final dish. You might consider the idea of adding a couple of chopped black olives, a pinch of black pepper and a touch more basil, just to make the final dish a bit more vibrant. I hope this helps, thanks!

Hi, found your channel a few days ago, it is brilliant! every video I have watched I want to make! Just a question about this sauce, how long could you keep it for? That would be a good thing to add to the info in the description for some recipes like the stock, different sauces or freezing the bread dough to have in batches. Keep up the good work & thank you!

doesn't this taste just like hot tomatoes?... I am so bad at cooking
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
+D34tho Ahah! That was probably one of the most amazing comments I've ever read :) I guess it does taste like hot tomatoes, but it also has a lot more flavour due to the fact that you concentrate the sauce during the cooking process. If you are not a master in the kitchen, this should be a very good starting point for you. Please, let me know if you try it.

+The Vegan Corner I did try it and ended up throwing it away after 2 bites. I didn't pay attention to the point you made about how watery it is. My canned tomatoes had more water so I think I needed more cooking time. :(
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
+D34tho Well, obviously the quality and kind of tomatoes you use are very important. Keep in mind that sauces exactly like this one are consumed daily by millions of individuals.

If I use fresh tomatoes should i peel the skin off first?
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
Emina Mutapčić Absolutely! If you peel them first the sauce will end up much better, as the skins tend to lend a slightly unpleasant final flavor to the final sauce. Thanks for watching!

I just made this sauce!! I did peel the tomatoes first and this is the most delicious thing I've ever made in my life haha And I used my homegrown tomatoes :) I alsoadded dried basil, oregano and sliced olives and it's so yummy! Thank You so much!

Also, if I make this sauce in big batches, how long can I keep it in the fridge?
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 9 жыл бұрын
Emina Mutapčić You can't imagine how happy I am to hear that :) Thanks for keeping me posted! Tomato products don't keep well in the fridge I'm afraid, so I would eat it within a couple of days max. However, you could try to freeze a small batch of it and see if you enjoy the flavor after a week or so, and in that case it should easily keep for up to a month. That last and best solution, which obviously is also the most difficult, is to jar them using canning equipment, but that's really not the same thing. I hope this helps :)

why are whole tomatoes better than chopped tomatoes?
@thevegancorner
@thevegancorner 8 жыл бұрын
+Tom Riddle The reason is that chopped and whole tomatoes have a very different pulp/juice ratio. Whole tomatoes have more pulp and less juice, whilst chopped tomatoes have more juice and less pulp. More pulp means more pectin, which is a natural gelling agent contained in almost any plant. For this reason, whole tomatoes will produce a thicker, denser and more flavoursome sauce…in less time! I hope this answers your question
