Americans (like me) need also to grasp that defeating fascism is each person's responsibility, and that fascism isn't necessarily foreign. Italians and Germans get that very well, but we in the US learn a simplified version of WWII in which the each nation was either fascist or not, and the sides had already been chosen up.
