These grandmas were old Italian Americans living in the US. Those guys are young Italian people living in Italy. Italian Americans have a very old concept of Italy. They left a poor country, Italy is now a rich country with a modern society. The Italian food is always the same (the world's best), but, since we are used to eat different kinds of food, we're not shocked, you know.
@natashas.15665 жыл бұрын
@@itsmeandrea138 That is a very good point. Even though, sometimes it makes me feel that Italian people (especially older ones) complain about western food (Italian or not) only for the purpose of keeping the image of 'we have best food, and all the rest is sh-t'. In the same time I think to myself that the complains come because old Italians are used to mainly homemade food (which is of course better than restaurant food cause at home you cook with your soul for the people that you love) so it is normal to be disappointed when eating out. But, I am not Italian, so I really cannot know.
@itsmeandrea1385 жыл бұрын
@@natashas.1566 As an Italian (born, raised and living in Italy) I can tell you that we Italians are more used to homamade food (young people, adult people and old people) than other nationalities. I think it's because 'genuine cuisine' was passed down to us but also because in Italy fresh ingredients are cheaper than pre-cooked foods. But in 2019 we also are used to eat fast food, eating ethnic food, so it's not shoking to eat non Italian authentic food (not good but not shoking 😂).

I have been to almost 40 countries and all over Italy (including Bologna). The, hands down, best pasta I've ever have had, was in this tiny, tiny village about 50 km east of Palermo (on the northern coast of Sicily) at an even tinier restaurant, with just eight seats inside and six outside (which weren't even proper seats, more like small wodden benches and tables built into a tiny patio made of just wodden planks). A real Italian nonna had decided to make a few extra Lire, and my family and I had one of the most tasty lunches of our lives.

America doesn’t really have food. American food is mainly confectionery, like peanut butter and marshmallow spread. Everything else is European food that Americans try to make. Not saying it’s bad, I’ve cooked all my life and rarely follow recipes to the T. Because experimenting is always a good thing. Even if you ruin the dinner, you’ll know not to next time

@mshafer10212 жыл бұрын
@@janhenson9616 that is categorically false. Southern cuisine is 100% American, especially Cajun food and American barbecue. Nowhere in Europe do you find plates of fried chicken, turnip greens, mashed potatoes and gravy with cornbread or biscuits and apple butter…let alone Gumbo, Etouffé, etc. New cuisines developed around the ingredients that were most abundant here. You need to give the US more credit than that.
@mshafer10212 жыл бұрын
@@jessejamestx8993 I’ll have to heartily disagree on that. French food is world renowned. We just don’t see a lot of it in the US because it’s a very complex cuisine and takes major skill in some cases, plus there are ingredients that are not available readily over here that are abundant in France, like truffle mushrooms. In my personal opinion, German food is also very good. It’s not as diverse as French and Italian food, but it’s very hearty and almost nothing else in this world goes as well with beer. The rest of European cuisine, I agree. Take it or leave it

"Alfredo" comes from Italy. Ristorante Alfredo alla Scrofa in Rome, to be exact. Italians outside Rome might just call it "pasta in bianco." dylan freidman You are right but Alfredo created (just to say, it already existed before) a simply sauce with Parmigiano and burro (true Parmigiano/butter) then with the pasta water (thanks to the starch) the "Alfredo sauce" it's made (three ingredients). When the recipe it was brought to the Usa (thx two american actors) the sauce become another thing because you add other ingredients (I believe for the poor taste of american products). So to conclude, the Alfredo sauce that's made in the US it's not the one created in Italy but the american version. Sorry for my google-eng but I'm sure that you can understand everything.
