The problem with "rebooting" is that they've essentially been doing that for the last 3 years. They have virtually nobody on their roster with long term contracts save for Story, Devers, Yoshida, and Whitlock. Sale's last year is next year as they are not going to pick up his club option for 20m in 2025, and everyone else is either gone next year, or next year is their last year. They basically need to trade Turner, Paxton, and Jansen if anyone will take him and stock up on what they can get for them, and focus on next year.
@peterfalkson6730 Жыл бұрын
I think this season has actually had a lot of positives. Bello looks like an ace, Casas has been heating up, Durans putting together a good year, whitlocks been fine (injured) same with houck. Yea Devers has underperformed (his numbers aren't that bad) but Sale (before his injury) was great and paxtons been great (good trade piece). Not many expected this Red Sox team to win the division or even make the playoffs so I'm not that worried about this year. Obviously it sucks not being a competitive baseball team, but I do think the future is bright with Story, Yoshida, Devers, Bello, Casas, Duran, Wong, Whitlock, and Houck leading the way.
@kingxeiros1818 Жыл бұрын
For sure. I had hope of a possibility sneaky good team but they cant string anything together long term to do that, and with the questionable coaching decisions (Casas and Duran are sitting again today) you really gotta wonder what they’re doing. They aren’t going to make the playoffs so just let the young guys figure it out. They aren’t learning shit sitting on the bench all the time.

My last year of little league was 2004. I was so enthralled with the Red Sox. I watched or listened to nearly every game for years and felt such a connection to the team. I think the team has become an entry on the owners balance sheet and nothing more. The food and beer offerings at Fenway are not as good, it’s more expensive. The roster is something more akin to a AAA team rehabbing a few stars, then what should be a team that is continuously in contention. They have given up on the fans and the team.

I think some trades are definitely in order, but I don't think the whole team needs to go. I'd add Whitlock, Casas, and Duran to the list you provided of 'untouchable' players, and Crawford and Winckowski, while not untouchable per se, will very likeIy provide more value to the Red Sox in the coming years than they would net in return. I also think pitching prospects Shane Drohan, Bryan Mata, Brandon Walter, and Chris Murphy could either be starters or swingmen and position player prospects Marcelo Mayer, Nick Yorke, and Ceddanne Rafaela could be contributing MLB players by 2025. Between these players, potential re-signings of other current players, new free agent signings, and trades, I think the Red Sox are in great position to build a winning team in 2025.

he Red honk in me believes that the team has gone cheap these last couple years because they are gonna make a wicked strong run at Ohtani. But he realistic baseball fan in me knows that it is probably because Henry wanted to profit as much as possible, and have more control so he brought in Bloom who tries to have a moneyball mentality but will cowtow to Henry. And will hopefully make an offer to Ohtani. The way I look at it is that if all this cheapness is to put together a strong package for him, the Sox HAVE to be in the top three offers. Everyone is going to go after Ohtani so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't come to Boston. But if we do make him an offer that he ultimately doesn't take it has to be a top tier offer to show that the Sox are trying to be competitive.

I think you raise a few valid points, but respectfully, as a Red Sox fan myself, I disagree with a lot of what you're saying. I should say that I am not happy about how this season's going either, but I think that declaring us "dead" when we are .500 with 78 games left to play is a bit hyperbolic. If we were in the AL Central, we would be leading the division, and even still the fact that we're still in the race for the WC, even distantly, shouldn't be dismissed. It's also worth remembering that at this point in the season, the 2007 Rockies were 41-43. Obviously the context surrounding that team is very different, but it's worth remembering that it is still a long season, and crazier things have happened. Also, given your frustration with the team currently, why is your solution to spend another 3 years in the cellar while we rebuild?

The mlb guy at the start are completely overreacting, if you are talking about winning in 2023, how about masa or verdugo, they are having star seasons (better than devers). I understand this guy's job is to get people fired up, but man, this guy watched a couple highlights from a year ago and looked at the roster card once. How many Sox games have you watched this year? They are not bad, they are playing inconsistent baseball in the toughest division in the sport. They have owned the Blue Jays and the Yankees this year, Bello and Yoshida are breakout superstars, Devers has led the league most of the year in RBI, Paxton has been fantastic.. they have a better record than the highest payroll teams everyone expected to be good.. I think this is a lot of hyperbole. They play extremely well against many of the best teams, have lost some squeakers to some bad teams (Rockies, Cardinals, etc), but they are not bad. People who default to that are just looking at standings and listening to biased reporting.

Casas could be really good. He walks a lot, hits for power, but reminds me a lot of Bobby Dalbec only with plate discipline. Time will tell on him. Think it’s fair to say a lot of key player signings/acquisitions (Devers, Kenley) are more about fan attrition and helping team stay afloat. These things don’t necessarily equal division winners. And the Ort/opener game has become a league wide dilemna whenever a team has an inj/underperforming 5th starter spot, or if your name is Cash and you just get off to ‘re-establishing baseball norms’ every year with comical in game management.

As a Red Sox fan, I disagree on almost every point. Now maybe the three extra weeks that have passed since this video came out have given me more insight to the team's current situation, but it is not time to "blow it up". Sure, make a few smart trades here and there, but overall, we have a strong hitting core, a decent rotation, and a bullpen good enough to still win even when 2/5 games are bullpen games (and when Sale, Whitlock, and Houck come back, that won't be necessary). Yes, I too would like to see all aspects of play be more consistent, but which team doesn't need more consistency? Currently, the Sox are 40-32 against teams above .500, the best mark in the AL and second best in MLB only to the Braves (38-24). Going back 5 years, the AL team that finished with the best record against winning teams also either won the AL pennant, or lost to the team that did (which also was the team with the second best record against winning teams). Bottom line: teams that are good against good teams do well in October and, right now, the Red Sox are the best in the AL. (Interestingly, this pattern does not hold true for the NL. Maybe that's because either the NL is soft and even bad teams finish over .500 or that the October Dodgers suck. Or both.) Anyway, if the Sox make it to October, they probably have a better-than-average chance of going deep. That's not a team you blow up.

Still love the Red Sox even tho we are playing really bad baseball right now I don’t care if we don’t win every game cause hell opposing teams have good players and they have good coaching my Sox’s have some good players but the coaching is a bit rocky

The best hitter in the team is Masataka Yoshida. I would definitely take him if there was a dispersal draft.

Lots of talent coming up through the minors some guys getting healthy again. All im saying is we are really only 8 games back from baltimore and tampa. Things could change quickly

They need a new manager and at least 2 high end pitchers as well as another big hitter! In other words blow it all up period and rebuild!😢
