The reality of the situation is the current Yankees dont hate losing. You saw it with the Steinbrenner and Jeter interview that they both despised losing, and it didn't matter when you lost, how you lost, or who you lost to. If you lost, then you failed, and that's that. The current Yankees just don't hate losing from Ownership to their captain. I am not a Dodger or Yankees fan. You can tell the mistakes they made base running and the one error to judge cost the Yankees. The Dodgers were much better in dead-ball baseball. The Dodgers were detail oriented and had a mister series from Freeman. I can see why the Yankees haven’t even been in a World Series since 2009. They spend all their money on big boppers and a couple of superstar pitchers. I don’t think I have ever seen a World Series team run the bases that poorly and have that many errors in a clinching game.
@rhlhappy3 ай бұрын
No question the Yankees have performed poorly since their last dominant run in the late 90s, but the primary reason the Yankees are no longer dominant isn't a lack of "heart" -- it's a combination of randomness and a stricter set of salary cap rules. They won 20 of their titles in a 55-year era during which only two teams made the playoffs, and those playoffs consisted of one round: the World Series. They won 2 more titles during the 24 years of the two-round era, and 5 more during the three-round era. In the 30 years since, when more teams than ever make the playoffs, the road to a title is longer and more difficult. In this format, the likelihood of any team, even a dominant team, winning is lower. And the effect of being in a large media market with a greater ability to generate revenue has been dramatically undercut by the luxury tax.
@alexatallah19973 ай бұрын
Good point. 20 titles when there were fewer teams, the 1977-78 repeat, the late 90s early 00s, and the 2009 team. Same goes for the Celtics. The Lakers are the only historically great team to have their titles evenly distributed among multiple eras. Large chunk of the playoffs these days is a crapshoot.

Getting swept would have been less embarrassing. That 5th inning needs to be a huge siren going off for the team. They NEED to clean it up. Their fundamentals are pathetic. Look aback this series. If Gleyber doesn't lazily try to catch the throw coming in from the outfield, he doesn't miss the ball and Shohei doesn't advance to third. He doesn't score the nest AB on the sac fly and then the inning ends without him scoring. Game one never goes to extras and the Yankees win it. If any one of things happens, Jazz doesn't miss the catch, Judge also want miss the catch. Biggest was Cole. He went from being the hero to the heel simply by not covering first. That's inexcusable, and honestly, if he opts out, I let him walk over it. I don't hate on players for bad results, for occasional errors. But covering first on a deep groundball to first is fundamental. You can know almost nothing about the sport and you can intuitively figure out that the pitcher covers first there. Cole cost us that game. So no matter how great he pitched, and he pitched phenomenally, that loss is ultimately on him IMO. Cleanly played ball would have the Yankees up 3-2 heading back to LA.

"Tell them it wasn't easy. When they look back and see 125 wins, tell them we never took a single one for granted. Teach them about our passion, and our patience. If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names. And if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees. And in the season of our lives, we became a team. A team that made people believe that baseball could be magic... and men... could be perfect." - from the 1998 world series video. Highly recommended if anyone wants to remember the feeling of those days and that team

This was embrassing to watch the Yankees choke so hard there not the same team back in the 90s. @@WarrioroftheWest7 No curse, just bad front office. Hal not having the passion his father had. Cashman only won titles with players he inherited from previous GMs in the late 1990s and players signed with Yankee money in 2009. Cashman has made many questionable trades and free agent signings like giving away Mike Lowell, letting Andy Pettitte go in 2003 before he came back in 2007, not retaining retirement rights for Roger Clemens, signing Jaret Wright and Carl Pavano when they could have signed Pedro Martinez, Javier Vasquez (2x), Kevin Brown, Jacoby Ellsbury, Sonny Gray instead of Justin Verlander, Joey Gallo instead of Kyle Schwarber, not pursuing Bryce Harper who really wanted to come to the Yankees in 2019, trading for or signing washed up players like Kevin Youkilis and Vernon Wells, not trading for a reliever in the 2024 trade deadline, holding onto prospects for too long like refusing to trade Eduardo Nunez for Cliff Lee in 2010 and calling up prospects late only for most aside from Aaron Judge and Luis Severino to fizzle out or they start off strong but struggle to adjust as pitchers figure them out (Gary Sanchez, Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar). Judge and Severino hired their own coaches to help them succeed. Even this year the only move he gets credit for is the Soto trade, Cole was Yankee money, Stanton was gift wrapped by Jeter, got lucky with Aaron Judge (he was seen as a boom/bust type prospect when he was drafted).

Notice the Yankees can only beat AL Central teams in the postseason over the last few years. If they're not facing Cleveland, Minnesota or KC, they don't beat anybody.
@Roxas-ph3te3 ай бұрын
They lack championship pedigree. Pretty sure every team bar the Rays had a champion player on them, and the Sox, Astros, Dodgers who beat them went on to win the WS. So it's a bit of luck when it comes to the draw, but it's also the fact the Yankees just aren't good enough in pretty much all departments compared to the Astros, Dodgers etc. They don't do the basics right, and they don't have the mentality

As a Yankee fan all I have to say is we didn’t deserve to win, and we haven’t deserved to win ever since George Steinbrenner died. The Yankees have since formed a culture of no accountability for your mistakes. We hired a manager whose job is basically just to be a yes man for the team and org, players are frequently making errors and playing lazy with seemingly a slap on the wrist at most as punishment, and the bullpen management is even worse with pitchers blowing dozens of games and no accountability there either. Players are easily demotivated when down by multiple runs and can never come back. We did not to deserve to win, and game 5 was basically the reason why, a culmination of everything I’ve said. It’s always so annoying to watch, and I don’t blame the rest of the fans for hating us, as I’ve witnessed a large part of the fanbase and org push toxic positivity on us, even with all the writing on the wall. I’m glad we made it this far, but we didn’t deserve to make it to the WS and we certainly didn’t deserve to win.

Been watching the Yankees in the playoffs since 2018, and every year I just know they're going to find SOME WAY to lose. They just don't have 'winning' in them. IDK what it is exactly, the team just shits itself in the Postseason. It's not a scary team.
