Seeing you pulling the "thousands" of thorns out of the tires with a Zen state of patience and endurance reminded me of the times in life I've confronted similar kinds of frustratingly repetitive mundane tasks, and often ones that I could have avoided. It's a reality that occasionally happens in the things we do. I enjoyed seeing the inclusion of this in your video and empathized with what you had to do, and I appreciated your cheer and good nature in tacking the thorny problem.

08:07 When you are following the tyre tracks of the guy who was lost before you. 12:20 those are Devil Thorns or 'dubbeltjies' and they grow throughout the arid regions of Southern Africa. The spines aren't long enough to get through a motorbike tyre, but they go straight through a bicycle tyre and tube. We used to run around barefoot in the veld as kids and would sometimes get them in our feet. THAT HURTS!

Those thorn/stickers look just like goatheads. They are the bane of bicycle riders in the american southwest, they are shed by a plant that is endemic there and spreading to other areas. One of them will puncture a tire and in the season I have found more than twenty in each tire. It’s enough to make you give up bicycle riding. The only solution will be solid tires that can’t puncture. I assumed the plant that produced them was native, but the southwest desert is full of invasive species and it looks like the goathead plant may come from Africa because those were goatheads or I’ve never seen them. It takes tweezers to pull out the broken ones, this really brings back memories.

You say you're heading towards Angola. Don't forget to see the Himba tribe near Opuwo. You can hire a local guide to help with entry into the villages and translation in Opuwo. Also go to see the wildlife in the Etosha National Park. When I was there, it was the best place to see all species in their wild habitat -- better than the famous parks such as the Kruger where the animals are too accustomed to tourists. The best time to go the the Etosha park is at the end of the dry season going into the wet season; about November. Then the animals visit the waterholes every day.

I'd like to see you launch your drone sometime... I'm wondering how you do it.
