Hey brother. I’m just 71. I’ve been riding forever. Started on a Honda trail 90 and now ride a Tri glide. I have never been to a rally. Most always ride alone. Old school is still out there, but not at the shows. The old timers get old. We cannot fight change. You don’t have to like it my friend. My old man thought the same about me and my group, as did his pap. Enjoy what you have left and hold onto your old school beliefs. That’s all any of us have. Warm winds and blue skies.

I'm 64 .Thank God I still have all 43 vhs Easyriders video tapes!! You can still find the magazines and tapes on eBay. I don't ride on expressways anymore. And barely ride around the western suburb where I live 20 minutes from Chicago. Too many freakin tailgaters. I used to go to all the local swap meets like the amphitheater, McCormick place,Peotone, but these shows have way too many I call futuristic sculptures. I love the old time choppers and candy custom paint jobs. I've got a 72 stock flh rat dresser. I mean this baby is rusty ,filthy, pipes are so rusty they sound bad ass!! I get more compliments on this bike than an old 68 hadtail chopper I had. I don't ride with anyone anymore. They are either dead or moved away. My cancer is slowing me down, but I won't sell it yet. I never ride long distance, have no desire to. My motto is different than the usual marketing ones about distance. Everyone is brain washed with that. LIKE your not a real biker unless you ride 1000's of miles. My motto is, it's not how far you ride, it's how cool you look when you get there. And anything that becomes a job is no longer fun. I dont need some idiot telling me how often or far to ride my bike. As long as I can still hold up "Hannah" I'll keep her until it's time. Stay in the wind brothers. Tattoo.

I am currently rebuilding my 1976 FXE - I found a local machine shop and all they have in there is pre-evo motors - flats, knuckles, pans, shovels. They said they are extremely busy - they have at least 40 motors in the shop and a couple month backlog. It is a father/son operation. Based on what I saw, the old stuff is not dead by any stretch.

But to my surprise when I asked him to go to the spring rally he asked why. Flipping blew my mind. Walk into a Harley Davidson dealership and you'll find more floor space dedicated to clothing than bikes. I also see a lot of people wearing HD clothing that don't own or ride any sort of bike. Back in the day we called them Sidewalk Commandos. Then there are the "biker's" in that only ride a few days a year or one major event a year. However they wear their HD clothing and sport their HD stickers on their vehicle 365 days a year.

People and bikes have moved on the custom scene has changed (in the uk it is more a cafe racer based )Harley are changing their lineup with a street fighter and a adventure bike being added to the cruisers and big tourers. Easy riders didn’t evolve and had the same message and formula for its entire print run & when people didn’t want to read it or it’s message wasn’t relevant to them they stopped or didn’t buy it. I am sad that the carcass has been robbed and the name is possibly going to be stuck onto things that the founder wouldn’t have gone near but such is life we will see if they can sell them.
@zozoa14 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. Life is changing well evolving I suppose the youngsters can't remember what it was like not to have a lot. Now you can just about have anything you want right now just borrow money and bang you have it. There heads are buried in social media. People forget the outside world, Reality. A simple walk in the woods is never done let alone a camping trip away on bikes why do that when you can book into a hotel. It's a shame people have become so soft. So what do we do about it do we just go oh well that's life or do we go no hang on we're not going to give up on it. We just become counter culture again we old boys get together camping gear on and we make our own small rallies you don't need dealership tents you don't need food tents all you need is a bunch of friends tents music a few beers and make your own entertainment. Proper old time ways. Let the youngsters do there thing we do our thing. Who needs a Rally to organise your weekend just do your own thing. Don't forget FTW. Otherwise it will be us that will turn soft. Let's bring the proper old days back we,re in charge of our destiny not the big corporations or the youngsters. Ride Safe and be happy.

There's enough Harleys around to last another 100 years even if they quit making them. Hardly anyone works on their own bikes anymore Lots of bikes could be fixed up and rode. Like everything else they let sit, goes bad then junk. Bad gas runs many bikes. New bikes with computers, fuel injection, alarm systems make it impossible for people to work on. Just buy a new bike junk the old. Best buy an old bike without all the new stuff to go bad. Get to know the bike maintain and ride. You can make it last a lifetime.

When you get right down to it, all motorcycles are two wheels with an engine driving it. If you want to own and ride you should at least be able to know and maintain it. I'm 63 years old and since I was a teenager I've seen lots of bikes sitting for years because the carb jet was stopped up or the float was hung, bad battery, wore out tires. Mostly just neglect. However, the environmental impact of battery manufacture and disposal isn't as rosie as the present Powers are trying to make it seem. We're destroying infrastructure and reaching for a dream, but I'm afraid destruction of what we presently have before ensuring the functionality and practicality of what they're forcing to come next will prove to be a big mistake.

Well there buddy , your right things do change from time to time... Guess I'll just keep on doing what I have always done. ;) Keep riding and enjoy being free. Well as Free as one can be... Still as young at heart as I have ever been... Just a whole lot smarter I hope. What everyone else dose is there business 😂. It's not as grimm as we might think. My grandson is 21 and got his first payed vacation last summer and rode his wideglide from Oklahoma to Kentucky to spend a week with his grandpa. I was so proud of him... I took a week off and we spent it together riding... It still makes me smile when I think about that. Made me think there may not be as many young people as our time, but there still out there. My first bike was from a dealer that was in a small store front with wooden floors and had a small room in the back for service. I bought half of his inventory. That's right he only had two new bikes on the floor. LoL. Things were good back then. Every time I went in he knew my name. It wasn't like the Tajamahal Halls they have now. It boggles my mind to think of how many bikes they need to sale just to cover the overhead. Who knows maybe things aren't as bad as we think. ;) Well prayers 🙏 your way. Talk to you later brother. Ride safe so you can ride tomorrow. Billy...

Good blog Itch...the world has turned over...we got old.... millenials grew up with a lap top.....we grew up with B&W TV, hanging out at the gas station(when they existed), working with our hands, and conversations face to face(not texting or Snapchat).....

I work for a dealership finally was able to accomplish a life long goal of being a harley mechanic. I built my first harley out of a junkyard when I was in high school and came up with guys that were riding in the 40s 60s. This is the end of times for the old culture everyone buys a bike buys a patch and is a biker. No more hanging out in the garage working on bikes with your buddies no more just riding for the fun of it. Us old timers will slowly fade away.

Loved Easyrider since 1974. Our generation is dying off. New generations don't care. Enjoy your collection. I still ride a 1988 Electra Glide. I had to give up my hardtail.

Most all of the music I use is offered on the KZbin Creator page with their royalty free audio library. It's mostly just canned music created from a computer program by a variety of artists. Even at that, I must peruse hundreds of tunes to find anything that sounds halfway usable. I used to use clippets from well known artists but then I'd get hit with a copyright infringement. Don't need that. Here's one I use regularly: "The Queen Will See You" by the Mini Vandals

Thanks for replying I found an app TRACKID in playstore to tell me some of your songs... One of the song on your early video is called Symphony of destruction. I thought its from archenemy..but obviously it was from megadeth from your time.... I love your biker story... And clearly share some personality with you... Best wishes to u and vee in 2020..

Symphony of Destruction is an awesome tune. Megadeth can rock it out. I also like some of Avenged Sevenfold.

Drove my first motorcycle the summer before JFK was assassinated. My cousins had bikes but no drivers license so, if we went to town, I drove. Now, I'm over 70 and live on possibly the best sport motorcycle run on Earth, the Mae Hong Son loop in Thailand, 350 miles, 1864 curves, amazing scenery, waterfalls, tribal villages, great food, good roads, and I have met people from over 30 countries who come to Thailand to ride the loop. You're not old until you can't get your leg over the seat and climb on! (I spent a year in Hocking County Ohio before I moved to Asia) Regardz!

Unfortunately, it's not just old school bikers that are going extinct. Interest in such things as muscle cars, NASA rockets, auto racing, fighter jets...etc are all dying. Even the arts are dying off. Many schools in my community have cut music programs and art. Heck, I noticed a growing number of people are not even interested in outdoors (camping, boating...etc). All that matters is a digital screen in front of the face.

I'm nearly 61!!!! American born grew up in England ( long story) 50 years I lived there back in America since 2014 , ride a 2014 Streetglide.. Worked on US Air Force Bases and used to buy Easyriders from the Stars and stripes book store on Base. That's where I got an insight into what was happening in the states. In England we were all cutting our teeth on metrics . Honda , Yamaha ect. In 76 onwards it was RD ( two strokes) Honda ( 4 strokes) ect Suzies and Kwacks. Old British bikes like I had an old T140 V Bonneville , but the Advent of the CB 750 and Suzuki 750/1000 ,and of course the Kwak 900/1000 killed the Brit bikes off. I did have a 1200 Sportster in 1991 but Harley Dealers were few and far between. Way to expensive over there. SO I'm saddened by the demise of the Easyriders Mag ,I used to love the bikes especially the Dave Mann artwork and of course perv over the woman in it!😂 My brother joined the AF and came to the States way before me, and he used to send Easyriders videos ect. He now lives in NY State and rides Triumph Bonnie's with his old lady. Been riding 45 years now by the Grace of God and have the Streetglide as long as I can still bench press the weight!!,🤔😂😎 We're all getting on now man but I wouldn't have changed it for nothing. It was raw when you're young growing up and motorcycles we're really starting to develop. There will always be motorcycles I think there will be youngsters with the same interest we had back then but I don't believe anywhere near the numbers we had. Electric bikes ? Not for this old bastard! By the way saw a video with a 131 Road glide up against a Livewire and there wasn't really anything in it. No thanks I want my bike to sound like a bike. Too many rules and regulations for my liking these days. Take comfort in the fact that we had the best times/ years I believe as far as motorcycling is concerned.Ride Free and safe man!😎

For me Easyriders mag went too corporate and mainstream for me years ago so I moved over to iron Horse I actually think that Easyriders was instrumental in the whole weekend warrior scene and HOG etc

I knew a lot of years ago that I would hang on to my horse till the day die ,already an antique . So are some of the mags I've been collecting . Each year compleat . Every one in its own bag . Maybe now they will be worth something BEFORE I die . You will be missed .

We could never get Easyriders easily here in the UK. Used to see it now and again. Our shows are dying out here too, not many younger guys riding custom bikes. It's sad.

Born in ‘67, bikes have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. The “unmentionable” part of this story refers to the neutering of the American male. As a parent of 3 millineals, they could give 2 f’s about what was, far more interested in gaming and instant gratification. And I’ve got good kids! There’s a huge portion of these kids spoiled rotten, talking sh*t to their parents and thinking they run the show. Entitled, arrogant and soft. The parents can’t do a thing about it because child protective services get called if you ground a kid from his PS4. Ive also seen a number of these kids tear up the house, hit their parents and totally defy those trying to raise them to be good people. The decline of “old skool” values isn’t just reflected in the motorcycle community, it’s every where you look. People by and large are rude, inconsiderate and selfish as they consume everything they can as quickly as they can without regard to anything or anyone else. There’s enough of us left to straighten these knuckleheads out if given half a chance but in the meantime, American society as a whole is circling the drain

You have hit on some interesting facts indeed!
@kevin73923 жыл бұрын
rude, inconsiderate and selfish describes "old school bikers" very well... the ones who rev their engines right next to you on the street and in your neighborhood at random hours, the old school bikers that try to run you off the road if you pass them, the old school bikers who make fun of you for riding something faster and more efficient, for wearing safety gear (which is funny because old school bikers wearing no safety gear keep the trauma ICU at work very very busy during bike weeks here). Nah. those old school bikers are selfish, have closed minded mentalities, and I'm glad the culture is dying out. wear some proper safety gear and get a bike that actually works you saggy leatherskins

Easy Rider could have changed formats and kept right on trucking. I blame Harley Davidson for some of it too. Let's face it This part of the industry is geared around the outlaw biker lifestyle and I'm not talking about The Hells Angels. I'm talking about the live free or die trying lifestyle. The average young man out there can't afford A Harley to live that dream on. Most people would say that this generation aren't interested in doing anything like that. WRONG! Now that I've kicked H D I'm going To shake the finger at us old goats too. We have held Harley lifestyle close to our heart and don't won't to let it go, let's face it . This is one of the last things we have left from our youth and it's slipping away. The young people are still riding< but guess what , They ARE NOT riding a $25,000 H D. I live in GA. and you can ride pretty much year around here and a lot of the kids ride croch rockets. $10,000 bikes new most of them. The future isn't with us my friends it's with them, some day it might return to our side plenty of young people do buy used H D's and tinker on them and always will, but what we had is gone with us. I give it 10-15 years and what we loved will be museum pieces. So while I still have a little led left in my pencil I will be enjoying my old Hog and looking to the next horizon. Y'all do the same my friends. P.S. Itchy, you and your stories are the new Easy Rider format. Keep it in the wind my friend.

Old School is Cool - to Boomers. To Millenials - anything connected to the 80s-70s-60s' 50s is that old grandpa's crap that they did - not them. The young today have motorcycles that top out at 180+ mph. The motorcycle that I still own is a 1953 BSA 650 Golden Flash that can do the ton ( 100 mph ). It is heavy iron with a magneto ignition - not carbon fiber, plastic, aluminum, and computer electronics of the crotch rockets like they ride. They also have cars that will outrun cops and top out at 180 - 300 mph. Sorry - but the torch has been passed the young generation and they are leaving us far, far behind in their dust. We had our time - now it is there's.

Its jacked up, but a bunch of wormy little boys wont keep me from doing my thing. There are still plenty of backroads, and I can still wrench my own sled while fighting my own battles. Hell before there were old school rallies I guess someone had to start one so I reckon somebody needs to get to work! Somewhere in the smokys would be real nice this summer. 💪🏻🇺🇸
