RollPlay Swan Song - Week 4, Part 2

One thing I really like about Adam as a GM is the extent to which he allows the players to control their own story. Like, just one of a million examples, when Higgs goes to talk to the captain and Piani says she switches on her backup cameras, many GMs would have just been like "sorry, you never said you installed backup cameras" - and not totally without reason cause it gives Piani an advantage. But Adam just rolls with it, builds it into the scene (with the stuffed animal) and balances it with the needs of the other players (cause Piani just gets visuals now, it doesn't allow her to simply negate Higgs' attempt to get some privacy). And I've noticed this so many times by now, he'll rarely say "no, you wouldn't know this", he says " _do_ you know this?" I like this approach a lot, it makes it feel less like the players are just spectators or, well, "players" in a world that he created and controls, it's more of a collaborative world-building effort. He provides a lot of it, obviously, but it feels like the world organically evolves around the players' imagination and he's very skilled at working these kinds of things into the story without skipping a beat. It really feels like they're all working together to bring a story to life that comes from all of their minds. Watching this made me realize how important and effective it is to give the players room to do this and to define parts of the world themselves. Kudos, good sir. You are a master at your craft and I totally dig your style.

Hey itmejp? Just thanks, man. I started watching you around this show's original airing and was captivated by all of you. I've been re-watching it every day since hearing of Geoff's death to remember/honor his creative brilliance. I always recommend this show to people who want to know about RPGs that aren't "just D&D" so they can see what great cooperative storytelling looks like. Anyway, I'm grateful for the work you've done over the years to leave us treasures like this to come back to.

Man, Sicarians secret past seems super cool, and massively detailed! It's great to see Geoff get really in depth with his character, I wonder whether the others have as much detail. I know he and Adam had like a 15 minute conversation where they hashed out all the details.

Well, apparently they both talked about Falcon as well previously and he is a part of his backstory. Geoff had no idea he will show up though.

Yeah, if you watch one of the shows on Stevens channel about DM'ing Adam just briefly mentions that the two of them had a talk about his backstory. I've only seen Geoff on Dark Heresy and this (the other main campaigns have way too many episodes for me to get into them now), so it's not really fair to judge him on it, but it looks like he's really trying to get into the role playing talky side of it in Swan Song, not just the action, which I thinks great of him.

345tom He said that his other characters have been badass leader types and that he wanted to do something different. He still wanted to be a badass but a different kind, mysterious, secretive, strongly opinionated on certain subjects.

You know, one of the things that excites me the most about this show is the possibility of them getting a ship like that with a huge crew of their own in the future. Especially if they find a way to effectively incorporate that AI into it.

Refugee ship was out of fuel, drug smugglers ship was to well known. When the cruiser showed up and started blasting, they wanted something a little lower profile to escape in. Dunno how well that works considering the cruiser started firing on the Swan.

@@-Markus- Maybe for you. JP is annoying to some of us. He hardly ever pays attention to what is going on. Asks things that happened like 2 minutes ago. Like them already getting coordinates to the secondary base, then he later asks where they are taking her. Then constantly metagames. "Would I hear that?" "Would I see this?", as if he has to be a part of everything happening to another character. Then another player, like Piani has to say something like,"I'm actually taking this call somewhere else on the ship.". Or weaseling his way into the conversation of Sicarian and Falcon. Somehow already knowing they are friends, even though none of that was said in his presence. Then his constant stuttering when he's trying to figure out what his character says. His channel anyway has taken a nose dive and he ends up being the ass we thought he was all along. Like him trying to force GM's like Steven and Neal into a contract, then just making a side deal with Adam to become the main GM of the channel...then Adam turns out to be a weirdo like JP.
