Being a Monarchist myself, being of Italian Nobility and being very interested in the Royals of every country, I am partial to the UK Royals. The truth behind Mrs. Simpson was plain, she wanted him to stay as King and she would never see him again. The then, King Edward VIII would not have it. He tried and schemed everything he could to keep her, even if it meant abdication of the Throne, which we know he did. It affected the Public and the Royal Family deeply. His intentions were not good ones. Read up on him when he became, H. R. H. Prince Edward, Duke Of Windsor. He scammed money out of H. M. King George VI, by lies about his finances. Instead of giving his Brother, King George VI, Balmoral and Sandringham, as they are not owned by the Government, he sold them to him for quite a lot of money. They are private personally owned residences of the Monarch, which are meant to pass to the successor not bought. He was not the victim in this situation. He was the winner monetarily wise, with a yearly allowance besides the money his brother gave him for the residences and the money he had tucked away that was found out about years later. He was constantly at odds with the Royal Family doing things to embarrass them until finally he was sent to be Governor Of The Bahamas, a position they should have left him in for the rest if his life. He wasn't someone who was very nice to anyone in his family and went against everything he could to embarrass them especially his Brother, the King and his Mother, Queen Mary, relique of His Majesty King George V. In 1970, after visiting the United States for eye surgery, President Nixon had the Duke & Duchess at a White House dinner, where he reportedly said, "Hitler wasn't such a bad chap as everyone thought. He did much good for Germany!" If that doesn't clinch who he was, I do not know what else could. He cared nothing about the position he was born into, his Father or his siblings. He was a selfish man who turned his back on them and his country. H. M. King George V was right with his famous prediction, which came true 11 December 1936, only 11 months after George V died. He said many times before his death in reference to His son, the then Prince of Wales, "Within a year of my death, the boy will ruin himself and the Monarchy!! Thank God for Bertie (George VI) and Lilybet!" (Elizabeth II) He was dead on correct with his prediction that destroyed a family, almost brought down the British Monarchy and forever strained his relationship with his Mother, Siblings and his nieces and nephews. He was H. M. Queen Elizabeth II & Princess Margaret's favourite uncle until the abdication and I still believe the Queen cared for him up until his death. She was hurt because she was thrown into being the heir even though he had no issue and would have been Queen anyway in 1972 when he died. She's actually a very shy Lady, but for 70 years has been the rock and stability of the British Monarchy. Read up on the true Edward VIII, not the ones his supporters defend, but the true man he was. Sad how he almost brought down everything his Great Grandmother, H. M. Queen Victoria, his Grandfather, H. M. King Edward VII & his Father struggled to keep at the center of Britain's daily life, as well as its' Commonwealth of Nations stands for, an example if duty & service to one's country. The current Monarch has done it with such devotion over the last 70 years, that she deserves a grand monument of magnificent proportions to mark the 2nd Elizabethan Age of The United Kingdom. This is just a guess on my part but I wonder if people in Baltimore still had something of a British accent when Wallis was growing up. She was born only a few generations from the American Revolution. Another guess on my part but I wonder if the Duchess picked up something of a transatlantic accent in her early years from people in Baltimore then at school. I know everybody calls it a real love story but I believe it was only 50% a real love.... I mean only King Edward had this real love in his heart & proved it but Wallis case was a little different. I want to ask, if Edward was not a rich man and only he was an average middle class man; then could Wallis fall in love with him? Could Wallis divorce her second husband and follow Edward? I am sure if Edward wouldn't had that money to buy a house for her in London and also in Paris and even both of them could go around the world together, then could this so-called love between the flourish? Could an average woman get all these jewels as gift from her boy friend or rich husband? Unfortunately my answer is negative.... I believe in love but I am suspicious about this kind of love or fairy tale story.... But I'm not sure how much "love" there was on either side. Edward used Wallis as a sort of "get out of jail free" card. He didn't want to be king or deal with the responsibilities. That's really why he abdicated. He could've--and was actually encouraged to--just keep Wallis as his mistress and be king. (The following wasn't spoken about or encouraged but...) he could've done like Charles did--ease his mistress into the British public's psyche gradually, maybe push the envelope a little every few years until times might've changed and a marriage would've been allowed. But I think #1 on his mind was get out of ruling GB, then #2 was marry his mistress because he loved her.

Both The late Duke of Windsor and His brother The king and later Her Majesty our Late Queen were in quite regular contact...The Duke made a number of trips over to the UK to see his family and always stayed at Buckingham Palace. The Queen visited The Windsors not long before The Duke Died.. Prince Charles as Prince of Wales used to visit more often and they apparently go on extremely well. What is True is the fact there was no love lost between The Late Queen Mother and either Edward or Wallis...Note; the feeling was quite mutual !
