TQ should be wearing heavy duty rubber gloves when putting down chemicals when doing that you don't know what other chemicals may be mixed in with the salt and wearing the rubber gloves is to prevent chemical burns on your skin and after wards if your not wearing gloves wash you hands very good to get any residue off of them and try not to touch any exposed skin and to be careful with any clothing that gets residue on in from coming in contact with your kids and pets to prevent the same thing. You can do what you want in the end but they are chemicals and you should protect yourself kids and family from as much exposure as possbile and when entering the house remove your shoes as soo as you come in so you don't track them through the house.

Sounded like you had the same problem we had here near Toledo kept pushing back the transition time I think officially it was like 3 or 4 hours behind what they originally said from rain to snow but over this two day storm we officially got a little ice under the 12.7 inches of snow officially at Toledo Express airport it was a long long storm but I'm glad we had a small break in the snow where us at Bill's lawn and landscape were able to get some hot food my boss and his wife made for the guy's and get 2 or so hours of zzz's in the temporary sleeping quarters they set up. Hopefully you guys stayed safe out there.

We got a big changeover to snow from rain/sleet/ice probably all 3 at once here in S/E Michigan. We have areas that have 8" with an inch or 2 of ice underneath. Water pooled in front of my garage so I have a spot that had 4" of snow and 5 " of ice. I have to say, I believe you guys are in God's favor. You got the salt truck, the truck actually came after some up and down moments but you kept faith, then you were able to get the spreader put on and everything else came together. That sounds like something was planned for you. You know darn well if you didn't get the bulk spreader you would've been breaking bags open like a mad man! Probably 2 semi's worth now? Keep doing what you're doing and be safe, be vigilant! Anytime a person or a couple start doing well someone gets jealous and tries to prevent that! Stay safe and Prayers for you and your family!

Just a thought for your salt bucket(s) get an old strap, drill two holes in your bucket, fed each end of the strap into your drilled holes and knot them off. Now you have a sling for your salt bucket. I saw someone else do it here on KZbin and have done a few of them for my guys. They seem to love them and takes the weight out of your hands. We kinda angle the bucket and kind of slap the salt out of the bucket (best way to explain it).
@jeffgootjes84182 жыл бұрын
The “salt slinger”. It’s a handy salt spreader and easy to make yourself and a lot cheaper than $40 per bucket.
@jjeanes22142 жыл бұрын
@@jeffgootjes8418 I said the same thing I can make it for a lot less then $40. I mean around here at Home Depot or lowes a bucket and lid runs around $5 and a pack of cheap straps at harbor freight is like $10. Mind you I have a lot of old salt buckets and useless straps so for me they where free. I’m not taking anything away from the guy that made them sand if he gets some people to buy good for him. But in my opinion $40 plus shipping is way to much for something i can make for less then half.

I don't know if this will make much of a difference but you could try running the vibration while they are loading you? I've always had a small shovel with me to climb up and use to spread the salt out. That salt will ruin your clothes in a heartbeat. Maybe even like a small trowel would work.

I did that hitch thing for a good amount of time. That's how I started in the snow bussiness. If you are transporting a 2 stage snowblower that or a Tommy gate is the best way. Though the Tommy gate is not as economical. Now for the little I use snowblowers I just throw a single stage in the back of the pickup.

Rock salt melts road ice in a jiffy when the temperature outside is near freezing, or just below it. It doesn't work well when the temperature drops below 15 F (-9 C), and it won't work at all if the temperature reaches 0 F (-18 C) , so save your salt with very low temps

For your safety you guys should look into getting boots with Vibram Arctic Grip soles. They are amazing even on wet ice... You can walk on floors without inflicting damage like studded boots or strap on crampons would do. They make even Vibram's traditional lugged soles look bad in the snow and ice! When I know I'm going to be on ice constantly I have studded IceBug boots but you cannot wear those in the truck or indoors.
