Creative arts student/gamer here. Bought the mid-tier model about a month ago for 1350$ Can confirm that this little guy is a *BEAST* of a gaming/productivity laptop. Something that wasn't mentioned in the video is the *significant fps increase* when you connect a external display via the display port. This allows the monitor to bypass the igpu entirely and run directly off the 3060. Worth the research if you're considering buying this laptop.

Side note: as he mentioned in the video, the 1080 144hz is plenty for this form factor. The ppi is plenty dense on my model, even for creative cloud apps (Pr, Ae, Ps) again, the laptop really shines when you connect an external display, but still punches *WAY* above it's weight class for productivity on the go.

However I've recently graduated and gotten my first full time Job that requires us to edit a LOT of 4k footage. It's definitely workable, especially with proxy's but it's something to consider. It has a multiplexer switch so you can set it to use the dedicated GPU to feed the monitor without having to plug in an external display. If you keep it on hybrid mode then yes it will use the igpu

Do not buy asus products guys. My asus mobo failed to post, RMAd it. They ship it back in a flimsy box and it gets destroyed and they say they have to file a fedex claim and that got denied. This is now e waste.

I bought a G14 last year, it has been one of the best laptops I have ever owned. If I had any complaint, it is the pitiful keyboard backlighting.... but that is easily fixed by turning off the backlighting. Lack of a webcam wasn't any issue... I just plug in my Logitech C920 and enjoy crisp 1080p video calls.

Did you do the bios update? That's supposed to improve the backlighting. I did that immediately when I got mine so I can't compare. Mine looks great when it's dark but it's kinda hard to read the keyboard if there's significant ambient light.

@Bzake It can be dead silent if you choose but gets hot. I tend to keep it on turbo which causes the fans to kick on pretty loud ~40+ db? It goes on and off with demand. If I'm playing something intense like Assassin's Creed Valhalla it'll pretty much stay on the whole time. I have a very powerful stereo system connected to it in my office when I play that game so I don't find it distracting but in a quieter environment they do get loud enough where they could be like in a library I would set it to silent

I got the mid tier model a little over 8 months ago, and lemme just say- this thing is a BEAST. It does get kinda hot after a couple hours nonstop gaming, but I use a mechanical keyboard instead. When its propped up with the fans getting plenty of air, I get max CPU of about 87 degrees, and a max of 80 degrees on the GPU. i also use an external monitor for a second screen, bt mainly use the built in one. Tho I did try it on a friends monitor, and it does get a lot better fps on a second screen. I love it

I'm happy with gray model with 3060 and upgraded 40 GB of ram, no anime matrix gimmick. Everything works as expected. The only weird thing about this laptop was that the fingerprint sensor didn't recognize my finger at all no matter how many times I tried. So I disabled it. Now after some updates, I tried to enable it again and it works flawlessly every single time.

Its great and very practical for me as i use it for casual gaming , lots of youtube tutorials , programming and hardware designing etc. its got good performance , great speakers , great keyboard, solid build and good battery . the lack of webcam is a shame but its still great and i love it.. and if you bought the 2021 model then return it and buy the 2022 model , its got webcam and everything is upgraded and this model , the 3rd gen one is the perfect one.

Definitely, I think people were bashing the G14 and G15 because of the hype train created and people set very higher expectations in comparison to other gaming laptops which led people to criticise the laptops for every small thing, although I will argue that the lack of a built in webcam is definitely a valid negative about this laptop

Cool review as always. $ 1549 for Ryzen 9 5900 HS and 1TB + RTX 3600 is pretty sweet. Sadly, the available options in Europe for tech, in general, are simply an utterly disgusting robbery. I've paid EUR 1,600 for a Rog Strix G15 with Ryzen 9 5900HX, 512 Gb NVMe, RTX 3060, so I will say circa 400 USD premium for a marginal gain in the CPU.

2 things i noticed that might be a bit understated is the fact that some of them ship with a rog eye external camera 1080p 60 fps and also the turbo mode is not fans at 100% to do that you gotta go into manual mode otherwise great review, i got mine 2 weeks ago very decent laptop for its price!

I have one also with the Ryzen 9. If you turn off turbo boost from the CPU for the silent profile (which makes sense for me since it is supposed to be silent) the CPU never heats up anything and the laptop runs completely fanless (fans always off) 99% of the time, which is awesome. And it still has awesome performance while on this mode. This laptop is literally perfect if you want a powerful small laptop that also doubles as a huge battery life, silent work laptop.

@@iamsmashy Well the Flex X13 is marketed as smallest gaming laptop, but it's more of a convertible 13" ultrabook-like design topping in some regions with a SKU comprising of R9 5980HS + 32GB LPDDR4 + 1TB PCIe3 M.2 + 3050Ti internal dGPU + mobile 3080 in ROG XG Mobile as external dGPU... I do not have it, but you can find many reviews online for the Supernova editions with 1650Ti internal dGPU SKUs...

I just bought the G14 few months ago I upgraded the ssd to a 2tb Samsung for school usage as I’m using it for mostly coding and I need larger storage for backing up, honestly for the games I tried out it’s impressive beast for the size and if you can get one on sale example as best buy for 100 bucks under retail I recommend and I do have the 5900hs with 3060 also 16gb ram.

I got 5299 on the blade 4 in CB R20. To do that I put the GPU on medium and the CPU on the highest and had it on a cooling pad. It sustained 4.1ghz the entire way, and did not go above 86 degrees. Incredible. Honestly, if I didn't have the audio out and trackpad issues with the razer, it would have been my favorite 14" laptop of all time for any task. Performance was just astounding. This was the 3070 model btw.

Disclaimer this is a great laptop I own one, but you have to do a couple of tweaks to it since this is not perfect. Apart from the tweaks I had to return my first one because the gpu fan was making a rattle noise which seems to be an issue with this laptop, not all but some. Apart from that if your willing to take your time it's a good choice. Wish hardware canucks would point this out. There is a reddit for the zephyrus g14 if you wish to learn more.

Mine has 5900HS with RTX3050 4 GB. Yes have played games and it just keeps at it.. The display is very good.. not the best.. if Asus adds the Amoled on this one it will sell like hot cakes. All in all sound is great, performance is on point and I expect this one to go another 5 yrs for me. Battery degraged by 2 % I keep it at 60% and mainly run it plugged in. Want a longer time.. plug in a USB C powerbank and boom it gets more than 10hrs with light workloads. The complete laptop does run warm.. but I am in India.. it never felt like a problem. It's a great package in the size. It has stood well. My Asus motherboard from 2004 is still running fine so I know this thing is stable AF.

Turbo does not run the fans flat out. Its noisy yes, but it's also maybe 30 to 40% of what the fans can actually do. When plugged in, select manual, and crank up the fan. Clock frequency will be higher for longer.

As much as I love mine (the 3060 model without the AniMe), I had some quality control issues when purchasing it. My first unit had some bad backlight bleeding in the display’s corners, and my second unit didn’t have as much noticeable bleeding but rather cosmetic defects. Stuck with that one, though I’m sad Asus has been hyping up the G14 when these issues are so apparent. The press samples people got are likely hand-picked, and that’s just a tad shady.

You should return it and get another one. If you got it from Best Buy, they have a fair return policy. Also said for software issues and driver (blue screen of death).

Why don't you include the fps that you get in turbo mode? Like if you're not turning on Turbo mode on a gaming laptop for gaming, then when are you going to use it? I want to say it's an oversight but it seems to be a deliberate decision by Hardware Canucks on all their videos that include ASUS ROG devices

The prices for the G14 are all over the place. Like I saw a g14 without an anime matrix that was Costlier than a model with an anime matrix. Also, I saw two models that had the same specs, color, and everything but were at fairly different prices. It might be because of the Indian market but it's really wierd.

@@rez3vil Nope! I really enjoy the G14. If I was looking for a laptop to maybe fully replace my desktop then the Blade 14 w/ a 3070 might have been a better choice but I mostly use the G14 for it's battery life and slight gaming on the go.

3:10 that wobble is not from the hinge, it's because the bezel doesn't have enough support up to the top of the screen, this happens to a lot of notebooks, not to mention its backside is half holes for the AniMe led matrix

Bought one a week ago and I want to return it already… after hours of updating and optimization I can’t get this thing to run any game for more than 20-30min before it starts giving me massive frame loss every 5 min… when I monitor the gpu and cpu performance it’s dipping down to 2-3% usage during these times and I believe it tied to the heat of the gpu… seems like every time it hits 80 degrees this thing sacrifices your performance to cool off the gpu back down to 70 degreees… maybe there’s a setting I could turn of for this idk I’m a noob to pc gaming… either way returning it to Best Buy for a replacement and hopefully I don’t have the same issues because all the reviews of this machine are excellent and I was really excited to get one

Computer programmer here, I had to return the G14 due to the amazingly small arrow keys. Anyone thinking about getting this computer should be very weary of this. Also, that LED display makes the lid heavy and in-conjunction with the ergo lift it feels like your computer is poking you rather than pressing against you. I switched to the M1 Mac and truly love it. Granted programming is my first priority and having fun is my second lol
