Come on, an extra USB-C port is far better as you can just plug in a dock or adapter for SD support and choose micro or full! That is the whole point, and on Intel machines a TB4 IO gives you so much more potential. If it had a full size one then I would think okay but still prefer a USB-C/TB4 but more useful than a micro.

The feature of bending the screen up to 180 degrees is very good when you are going to use it on a large monitor and enjoy the laptop's own keyboard, this makes the laptop screen not getting in the way of the external monitor.

The noise levels shown at 10:56 are confusing. Turbo and Silent mode on the 2022 G14 look louder than the 2021 model, contrary to what you said. Was this an error?
@Bunta1987qwerty

That is weird. The raw noise doesn’t tell the whole story, as different frequencies sound different to humans. Maybe the newer model has a better noise equalization, even if the peak is higher. Or… maybe it was just a mistake, though you can see that the touchpad is definitely larger on the “2022” views.

Cool feature about display rotating 180 degrees is that you can put it against the wall (vertically) so that the screen can be within the line of your sight. I've noticed that with my Omen 15, no laptop stand needed, it uses a fraction of space on my desktop and the heat is escaping easier.

For people wondering to upgrade from older G14 models: If you have the 2020 model I think it's a solid upgrade as that first model was pretty bad. I bought it at best buy and returned it as it was pretty lacking. I now have the 2021 model and I think it's an outstanding machine. They fixed all the issues from the 2020 model and it's price to performance now especially with this new model out is a really good buy. I've seen on best buy open box 2021 models go for $950 which is crazy seeing how well this laptop performs. The only downside of this compared to the 2022 model overall is aesthetics in my opinion. I'm not saying the 2022 model doesn't outperform the previous generations but I don't think most people will be pushing this machine to it's limit everyday so that's a big factor to consider. If your main concern is gaming and running applications that requires that then by all means get the 2022 model. I think for most people, the 2021 is a really good buy still. And if you have the money to upgrade I would do it. Hope this helps!

For gaming, I see a lot of comparison between the 2022 and 2021 version but without putting DLSS and RT into the equation. I am wondering if I should buy the 2021 version instead of the 2022 just to have a NVIDIA graphic card that will allow me to use DLSS and then a bit of RT? My idea would be to have the possibility to play some games on my TV and then use DLSS (when available) to help with the image quality.

I actually bought one of these, partly on the recommendation here in this video. Unfortunately, it runs as hot as a kiln (an oven hot enough to fire porcelain) when playing games, and that's with the fans running so loud that I actually realized I couldn't subject my wife to that kind of jet-engine noise, even if I wore a pair of headphones. It would have been nice if you would have warned people that the upper keyboard deck gets hot enough to burn your fingers, and not just in the area above the function keys, but even on the left and right sides of the keyboard, where you will touch the keyboard deck from time to time, even while you're gaming. I really, REALLY wanted this laptop to be able to game as well as serve as an ultra-portable, but unfortunately, Asus has simply shoe-horned a CPU and GPU that even a thick 17.3" laptop chassis would have trouble keeping cool into a tiny and thin 14" laptop chassis in which there's no hope of keeping the temperatures below 85 degrees, even with the fans running so loud it's preposterous. I have finally learned my lesson. If you want a gaming laptop, you MUST buy at least a 15.6" chassis with a beefy cooler. If you want something smaller, you CANNOT put a 3070 into it, and even a 3060 (or Radeon equivalent) will simply have to be reduced in power consumption below 85 watts. Period. End of discussion. It's not Asus' fault. There simpy is no way for 100 watts of GPU power plus 35 or 45 watts of CPU power to be reasonably disappated in that small and thin of a size of chassis without jet-engine loud fans. It simply isn't within the realm of the possible. I think we simply have to compromise and get a 3050ti-based 14" laptop, and see if that can run without either burning me or deafening me while gaming.

The G14 seems to be the only good option as a "do it all", or spend a lot more for Zephyrus Duo 16. Looks like Asus is trying to differentiate their product lineup by compromising each laptop's essential qualities.

The 6k Amd CPU's use DDR5 Ram Vs 5K DDR4. That alone is reason for a price difference. The advantage of the 6k version is a longer battery life span (more efficient), though as a gamer you might almost always be plugged in. I suppose that the gaming performance between the 5900 and the 6900 with a 6800gpu is similar, which means that gamers might be interested in the cheaper 2021 modell

It's not worth. I had got the 2021 variant with 3060. It had a defect 6 months in so I was able to get an exchange for the 2022 version. The ONLY things I notice is the screen is way more responsive, the keyboard is multi colored and more tactile to touch, and finally the acoustics from the speakers sounds much cleaner.

How does the lack of cuda cores affect its performance in engineering apps like matlab and solidworks?
@Bunta1987qwerty
@Bunta1987qwerty 2 жыл бұрын
Solid works is mostly 1 core cpu dependent, and matlab is able to utilize even gpu stream processors for parallel processing. In terms of series processing, it’ll handle matlab on either cpu or gpu. OpenML on amd is nearly equivalent to cuda these days. In many cases, within 5 percent, though there are a few processes where cuda is still significantly faster. This is less true if you use AMD rocm on Linux instead of python/tensorflow on windows via directML.
@AnthonyTripoli
@AnthonyTripoli 2 жыл бұрын
@@Bunta1987qwerty Thanks. It would be windows, no linux. So no big loss for an engineering student (no videogaming) going with this all AMD solution versus Intel and nVidia? Any suggestions on processor and gpu model/speed with either AMD or intel/nvidia laptops for this student? Also, someone on another video comment said not to use AMD gpus if you plan to do machine learning. True?
@Bunta1987qwerty
@Bunta1987qwerty 2 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyTripoli even an older ryzen 4000 with Vega graphics would be enough stuff you’ll do as a student. Cad doesn’t use much gpu power, and simulations of class projects are very light. Likely just a few seconds of time on any modern laptop. You can honestly run solid works on integrated intel graphics. Matlab coding projects are also easy work for modern hardware. The only exception is machine learning. Rdna2 tensorflow via openML is great. Almost as good as cuda. On matlab, you’ll have the same experience. Besides, your classes will have (probably ancient) workstations that you’ll use for labs. Homework will likely be a mixture of written, as well as online. The online hw via something like zybooks runs on a server, so your hardware won’t matter. I hope this helps. Before rdna2, amd machine learning was only maybe 15% as efficient as cuda, but it’s really close these days. My personal RX 6800 Reference “AI benchmark” results on tensorflow: Device Inference Score: 16711 Device Training Score: 19414 Device AI Score: 36125 These scores are better than the titan rtx and 2080ti scores, but those scores were posted years ago. Someone else did a video comparing the rx 6800, titan rtx and rtx 3090 using openML and cuda. The rx6800 fared well, though it was slower. It would’ve been nice to see the 6900xt in that video, but gpu’s are depressing atm.

Especially on slient and turbo mode. 3, Some comments on Bestbuy mentioned overheating problem (crash when gaming or running benchmark). Is that common?

it deserves a cpu undervolt. With such diminishing returns I rather have better temps or more headroom for the gpu... although, if I had to guess, I bet the similar performance is due to smartshift doing its thing. Certainly a shame we don't get a 6800hs/6600m variant with that amount of cooling on a slightly more budget friendly level. It may be excessive cooling for those specs but it would break the stigma that gaming laptops must run hot.

Buy only if your primary focus is gaming. Creator and professional workloads don't offer enough of an improvement despite the 16 : 10 aspect ratio. Even if you game part-time on your laptop, 2021 is a a much better buy and performs very well if you're not maxing out all the setting at 1440p, try low at 1440p or switch to 1080 and go high.
