ITS GENIUS 🤯 - Fuel Economy and Power Increased 4K.

With just over 5K miles on the odometer of the ODTRP 2022 LEXUS GX460 we as promised swap out the stock Denso air filter for a K&N life time performance air filter to increase both the fuel economy and achieve a power gain of 2-5 horse power from 4.6 liter V8.
This is a bit scientific as well, as Theresa is not aware of the air filter swap so that we may get an un-biased report of any fuel economy increases in a coming video.

@@b1gkeesh we have been at times involved with race engineering, and it is a proven fact K&Ns increase fuel economy and do not void out warranties. They also reduce the future cost of future air filter replacements, no to mention a typical 1-3 HP bump. Currently, we have increased our GX460 fuel economy with a K&N 1-6-2.2 miles per gallon, overall a 1.8 MPG increase.

@@OnDownTheRoadProductions I'm with you. I got K&N on my cars.. I'm talking about the comments saying you're going to blow your motor because you decided to use a K&N lol. They think dirt just goes flying through the filter..... Even after 20k the back side of a K&N has hardly any dirt at all. The GX fb group is even worse. People don't realize manufactures use paper filters for cost and noise reduction. That's their only concern. Performance is last on their list.

@@b1gkeesh So you discount the added dirt that enters the engine? That is a fact. Spend $60-$70K on a vehicle and then put a porous filter on it? That is a trade off I won't take. You can ridicule people all you want, doesn't change the fact you are introducing engine wear with increased dirt. How much of course depends on the environment, but the decision to use K&N is a decision to decrease air filtration period.

Project Farm did Air Filter comparison, and found out that the K&N has the highest air flow, but also allows the most particles. So more power/mpg, or longer engine life?

So you on both vehicles I am looking at currently. I haven’t test driven the GX yet but I did like the forerunner. I have a question about the cargo capacity. How do they differ pros cons between the two which do you prefer overall? It just seems like the rear deck and the GX is much higher because of how the third row is decide. Are you comparing this with an OEM one that was in there before this? If so was it pretty clean still or dirty before you put this one in? When I bought my 2014 GX460 a year ago it had a K&N Filter in it but it wasn't this one. It was just their most basic one that fits the GX. It wasn't dirty at all really before replacing it with the new OEM Filter I replaced it with. I didn't notice any difference in MPG between those 2. Recently however in the last month or so I went from getting about 16.7 MPG to 14.7 MPG. I think I may need an alignment but other than that I can't think what would be causing the drop. I read that extreme cold weather can make it worse which it was all across during that cold snap about a month ago. Im in Missouri specifically and the temps are now back up in the 30s which isn't that cold at all but my gas milage remains poor at right under 15 MPG.

A few things here we got the fuel mileage increase with the K&N air filter that replaced the OEM filter that came with the truck. The stock filter was very clean and saved. We specifically run Premium in our GX 460, as directed by the owners Manuel. A 2 mpg drop comes with using 87 octane. I do not see any mention of what gas you are using. KZbin is covered with Fake Experts and we hate that immensely. Please ignore the videos that say 87 octane is fine, if it were Toyota would’ve stated so period. Using 87 octane wears down your fuel system internals and can degrade your engine. Unlike the fake experts out there, we have direct experience with the auto companies and do not throw BS out there under the guise of red shoes and baseball caps. Currently in the cold we hover around 16 mpg

Modern vehicles use fuel injection based on oxygen sensors so they burn the exact amount of gas for the airflow. If the engine can't get enough air or gas it will start throwing errors. Therefore, changing the air filter can't significantly change the mpg.

You are wrong, there is in a plug in the CAI for the engine sensor. Also with an improved air filter like a K&N that sensor will adjust like you said for optimal performance. Please our 2-4 mpg increase with our 4Runner if you are correct. We hit 23 mpg on the highway, and 19.2 towing recently.

The K&N is cleanable and reuseable, we continue to enjoy our 1.6 to 2.8 MPG increase, hate paying for cheap air filters over and over again, and fully recommend this MPG hack. Knuckle Heads and fake experts are everywhere on KZbin lol

Well, my GX470 on the dash says 17mpg. In reality, by the pump and odometer it is 11mpg. Thus, 21mpg is false. 16mpg - maybe. Yeah, I live in California, thats 10-15%mpg loss due to state mandated adders to the gas.

It takes costly equipment to determine horsepower increases, especially if only 1-2%. But it is really easy to measure mpg by dividing the miles traveled with a full tank of gas. Just saying you feel it will be as good as a 4Runner is not a valid mpg measurement method.

TRD did the testing. Both our GX460 and 4Runner have 2-4 mpg increases depending on conditions with K&N air filters. K&N advertises a 1-5 hp increase for example. Sensors adjust to better air flow. An increase is an increase

Hello Greg note our comment to lightly mist the K&N after cleaning with only a light spray of oil for the exact reason you call out wrt to the MAF sensor. Across two FJ Cruisers and four 4Runners we have never had an issue, only improved gas mileage. Additionally the TRD CAI comes with a K&N filter as well. Using a K&N is a great fuel economy hack. Why we recommend constantly Bring A Trailer for used vehicles. Past that your sentiment is spot on. We hate the junk used vehicles with the cheapest set of new tires and the owner wanting top dollar, or conversely the used vehicle seller getting low balled when they have actually taken care of their vehicles.
