Hoshina had the theory about Kafka because when Kaiju 8 appeared during the exam, Kafka's suit stopped transmitting life signs. After that, we had Kaiju 9 which now everybody knows can take the form of a human, so there's precedence now as well.

Exactly. Hoshina is a funny and comedic character, but he's also shown to be far more intelligent than he lets on. I'd say he was wondering if Kaiju No 8 was similar to 9 after learning it was first spotted as a human. Which combined with what happened during the test, made him think about Kafka being a kaiju in passing.

Daikaiju just means they have a Fortitude over 8.0. Hoshina said he was almost certainly over an 8.0 and a Daikaiju when they fought. Mina has standard gear, but also that powerful canon that she uses to take out giant kaiju. She's also stated to be a bit mediocre in plenty of categories, but her power with guns is absolutely unrivaled while Hoshina is awful with guns (well below his combat power) but his skill and power with blades is incredible.

Hoshina had suspicions about Kafka, when he realised his vitals were the only one not being recieved while Kaiju no. 8 was active. he just kept him close to observe him, but he didnt really think that he would actually be a Kaiju

Hoshina has been saying there’s been something wrong about him for the last like 7 episodes lmao. Even directly saying there’s something human like about Kaiju 8 when they were fighting.

He did say he could barely move his arms afterwards. And complained about being old and pushing himself too far.

Yes Kafka said he could barely move, but considering how strong & fast he is, I felt that if he could move just a little it would be enough to get away. 🤷🏻‍♂️

There was precedence to Hoshina's suspicions. First at the exam, and then when he fought Kaiju no.8 himself. In the first place, he vouched for Kafka (even though he failed the exams) because he was gonna observe him and see if he really is Kaiju no.8

In the manga, when Kafka fell after the explosion, it says that he broke his arms and legs due to overexertion and the fall, so that's why he couldn't escape.

he already explained in the anime that he can barely move his arms and legs. They just didnt pay attention.

Came up with the same comparison to AOT. And I agree it seems like they already seem to side with Kafka enough not to outright kill him, as evident with them just taking him into custody.

You guys missed Hoshina’s suspicions with Kafka? One of the reasons Kafka was able to join was due Hoshina (along with him finding Kafka funny) finding him suspicious with how his vitals got a bit weird during the tests. I guess you guys somehow missed that part somehow. Kinda surprising as I have a habit of missing or forgetting major stuff like that in animes, yet somehow I was able to notice & remember that.

Such AMAZING episode like this was the best looking ep of the series so far. The new soundtrack when Kafka was transforming was great and the other music we heard already was placed very well in the scenes. Next 2 epsiode are gonna be FUN and can't wait to see reactions for it! Btw Season 2 got announced yesterday but I'm sure you guys know by now.

Honestly, Kafka pushing the Kaiju nuke away was the smartest thing for him to have done, IRL they have conducted tests with nuclear bombs to determine what their effective range is, it runs out the higher in the atmosphere at detonation the less ground level damage occurs which decreases by magnitudes the farther up you go, to prove their calculations of a safe atmospheric nuclear detonation, they had 5 scientists stand directly unde a nuke detonation at roughly 2.6 kilometers, they had to wear hearing and eye protection but no damage occurred to the men and radiation levels were just a little above normal. The explosion shown here seems to have been at most a kilometer and a half up give or take, for example little boy was detonated at just half a kilometer, if the kaiju bomb detonated at ground level the whole city would have been flattened with the entire base vaporized which was why they had no hope of escaping in time. Kafka really did save many lives here even if the damage was still severe.

I'd like to hear your guys thoughts on this show. I remember you giving up on Hell's Paradise and i get a similar vibe from this show, however it seems you either changed your mentality from that experience or are enjoying it differently

Remember, Ichikawa had reported that Kaiju No. 9 appeared as a human before turning into a Kaiju, so he knew there was a possibility that more Kaiju were hiding in human form. And Hoshina already had suspicions towards Kafka since the test when they first encountered Kaiju No. 9, he feels something wrong with him, Which was one of the reasons he passed Kafka as a cadet. So, that's the precedence

Show is great. The only thing i'm not a fan of is when characters in shonens overcome problems\situations just because, out of thin air. After watching anime for like 20 years it feels bad every time. Maybe it's age and i just can't turn off my brain these days. It's a very common and cheesy (classic if you want) trick, and it will never go away. That's why Chainsaw Man was so refreshing for me (it's also more serious than others).
