Hi friends. 3 things: 1, I have no water source on this side of the yard. I’ll show you all in a dedicated video how I plan to water with a rain barrel and a pump. Just like a regular drip irrigation but from a rain barrel instead. 2; since the recording ofthis video, I feel much better. 3; I know someone is going comment on how I look while in the garden. Now that my children are getting older, I have more free time to tend to myself. So yes, I love to look fabulous on and off camera ( do you follow me on Instagram?)…. 💞

1. I can’t wait to see how you’re gonna use a rain barrel - we’ve been hoping to figure it out! 3. I love how fabulous you look! It encouraged me to not hold off painting my nails just because it’s planting season!

My husband wants to experiment with rain barrels. I’ve been skeptical but it’ll be interesting to see how it works for you. You’re going to love that lilac. I had one at my last home and loved it so much. Unfortunately it doesn’t get cold enough here for one. They need cold weather to set bud.

The arborvitae will provide a green backdrop for all your purple blooming things to stand out against the green. If you have to move it later it will be fine. It’s gardening not planting and forget it. I find that gardening requires us to be flexible and move and prune things as they grow into their full size. I plant heavy so that I don’t have empty space to weed and it goes with my cottage garden look. I’m so excited to see everything come alive.

'How you look while in your garden?' Honey, you are beautiful anyway, and most of us would have to put in WORK to catch up with you on your 'regular' day! You put in overtime so your garden can look beautiful- you're entitled to glam up and feel as beautiful as your garden. I'm no garden professional either, but I think the hydrangea standard would look good in a big terra cotta pot (or in-ground), surrounded by petunias or something, next to your sitting bench. The Arbor vitae should be replaced with a grouping of tator tot arbs or boxwoods, if you have them on hand, then underplant the rest of the area with the beautiful phlox and veronica for color and varied height interest. The grasses and elderberry are perfect and will provide great interest and sway beautifully in the wind. The frog and eventually some kind of sculpture would be pretty too. Whatever you decide will be gorgeous!

Love the colors. The theme I'm getting is "Animals looking for places to hide." I think it's going to look very lush and green. I can see a few potted plants in the front mixed in too. Yes it's good to get those things planted so you can decide later if you want to keep them. Enjoy them for a while then take them out or trim them all the way down. Try some small ground rose bushes, they are very tough and you don't need to prune them too carefully just chop them with shears.

Your garden is so beautiful and I love watching how you're evolving it. A plant that might fill that arborvitae spot if you don't want to have to move it later on is a Himalayan Honeysuckle (leycesteria formosa). It is not an evergreen but tall w/in a year, very cool and easy-to-grow plant that bees love and is still interesting in winter with it's bamboo-like canes. It would echo the flowers from your 4 penstemon but with an unusual form. Another tall, complimentary option is Joe Pye Weed (eupatorium).

I had to smile when you said that was “ALL” you got done, like it wasn’t enough…the planning, purchasing, planning again all counts, not just the final dig & plant (and I use “final” loosely). I actually think that last planning step is the hardest part! Testing what’s in our head against what is in front of us is hard…how the mix progresses through a season, never mind many seasons. At some point, you have the epiphany & you jump. It’s going to look great 👍 p.s. you reignited some of my past thoughts on adding a bloomerang & lemony lace…my current thinking:where to jam them in 🤔

Your uncertainty has eased mine!! I just don't have an eye for design of any kind - I always need to outsource that one. It took ages, but I finally got a design that was comprehensive, named the plants, how many etc etc. Started what I could last fall - all good. Went to the yearly bare-root fruit tree SALE just to get some more berries. I left with an 3-tiiered pear espalier (already have 2, 2-tiered, cherry and apple. Don't ask why!?! But I went on a bender, the man asked before I even got started if I was interested in Bees. Of course!! Told him to ring me up at the end. Meanwhile, I selected two dwarf plums, one peach, and an apple I like. Since it was still cold out; my mind was all - Winter Interest, two more large bare-root dogwoods, three thorn-less blackberries (we already have 3 and I have no idea what I'm doing) and 2 raspberries! *I said NO to the blueberries after gifting the 4 I had last year as they weren't part of the DESIGN I PAYED for plus were work and not producing. Not one single of these fruit trees, berries, dogwoods are in the design!! I put a plum tree close to the apple espalier thinking I would have to move it the next day for symmetry. Now, they've all blossomed out and its too late to move! You're right! We can always move them. *Significantly more work without help, but hey ;) I'm feeling positive with the ability to change it if it doesn't work ;) THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for another video! Love your vision! I agree, with your thought, the lilac where the Arb was positioned. Maybe because it is because the Arb has color and nothing else does, so is unbalanced in my eyes. If you had 2 Arbs would be a different vision. Your garden will be beautiful no matter where you plant..excited for you! I am in Traverse city, Michigan zone 5b. We have snow. All snow had melted from the rain and then someone shook the snowglobe 🙄😫 on us. Just enough to cover the ground..Excited to see green and flowers on the internet.
