Thank you for not making it about horror and gore. It's getting way off the track of creative games, pranks, potlucks, and storytelling-- for the cheap thrills that hijack the idea of ushering in the winter solstice. This is truly a great video to showcase your content. Headed to the vintage-loving -link to show support for bringing back the original Halloween!

I love the old fashion vintage Halloween traditions. My Great Aunt and Uncle, two very down to earth people, celebrated their Halloweens in many of these ways. They had a three story Victorian house with many of the old costumes and decorations stored in one of the third floor bedrooms that I loved to look at as a child. One year when I was still an infant my mother said they brought in a woman who did tarot readings for Halloween, which she said were pretty accurate! By the time I was growing up those days were mainly in the past, but I loved hearing about them. I also liked to scare myself as a child after hearing my uncle's father was kept on ice in the basement until the visitation when he passed away, which was held in he Living Room, common in the day. My G Aunt was always quick to poo-poo the idea of ghosts, which was a great disappointment to me. ;)

I love this video! Also recognized the song that you danced to: "Oh by Jingo". All those vintage decorations reminded me of my Halloweens in the 1960's. All the decorations came from the "5 and 10" (Woolworth's) in town. Neighbors hung cardboard witches or scarecrows on their front doors. You could pose them in different ways because the arms and legs were hinged. I especially loved the black and orange crepe streamers, harvest themed decorations, peanut chews wrapped in black and orange wax paper, and little black and orange "peas" that tasted like licorice and orange and came in square cellophane packets. (Couldn't find these candies anymore after 1965 ) I knew it was Halloween after my mom brought down a box of costumes and greasepaint from the attic. As soon as I smelled the costumes and greasepaint, that's when I knew!

I'm Polish and in my culture the biggest mistake is whistling in the cemetery. you must not yawn, you must not whistle, you must not scream, because ghosts from the cemetery escape through open living mouths that use excess air in the cemetery. The whistle also leaves an ethereal trail through which suffering souls will follow us into the world of the living to torment them. The whistle calls suffering souls to us.

I love you two! You’re like me, a traditional type Halloween celebration. The original monster movies are the best. All these movies trying to celebrate Halloween or being connected to Halloween with the monsters being serial killers……….takes the fun out of Halloween to me. As a child of the 60’s and 70’s Halloween was It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and cartoons/movies which were fun to watch instead now it’s murder, blood and guts. Where’s the fun?

From Philadelphia..Hello my Friends. This was excellent and evoked the real All Hallows Even as it should be. Am 72 and hubs and I still love it. Even as a young'un, I knew it was a truly magical night!! I hate the horrific cheap decorations that are being sold..they cheapen the religious aspect of Samhain. Yes, I am an eclectic Witch and so celebrate this ancient Celtic holiday. Back in the mid 80s, charities would do their homemade haunted houses here in Northwest Philadelphia. Scary..yes, and charming. Thank you again for a wonderful time, Lawrie

You two are so adorable. I do love psychological thrillers and cute mystery stories (I don't like horror either). Have you watched "I Married A Witch" starring Veronica Lake? I always loved that one. I am glad you taught some of the history of the holiday. I have known the history for most of my life, but many people don't know about it. The mirror portion was new for me! I love the old Monster movies! The Monster Mash is a fun song and I grew up watching The Munsters. Congratulations on 45k subscribers. I am surprised you don't have many more. I was due to be born on "goosey night" as we call it where I live in NJ (the night before Halloween). I did participate in it when I was nearly 17 years old with friends. We TP'd a park and not much else. Just ran around really. I am surprised my mom let me go do it, considering I was not allowed to go trick or treating. I did love dressing up and giving candy to people though, since I could see their costumes, which I was allowed to do. I mainly dressed up as Raggedy Ann and historical types of people. I was only allowed to dress up as cute and nice things, not spooky or scary things. I didn't mind though. -JusticePirate

I don't think I've seen "I married a witch", perhaps Lindsay has?! I need to look into that one. We have been watching the Hallmark "The Good Witch" movies, and tv-show. It is very whole heartly. I didn't know I was born on "Goosey night" since my birhtday is the night before Halloween! Thankful to learn something new! :) ...i feel like a newbie sometimes since most of my life I didn't had Halloween at all growing up. / Jonas

@@itsacharminglife Oh I need to look into that. Goosey Night is also called Mischief night by others. It is where people play pranks and such the night before Halloween. You may see in old movies even where people had bonfires that night. Congratulations on being born on the day I was supposed to be born and on Goosey Night then, Jonas! I think really, the only countries that normally celebrate Halloween is the US and Ireland anyway, right? Makes sense it wasn't in Sweden.
