And the reason that employee had this extra copy on a hard drive was because she was home on maternity leave she had just had a baby and if she didn't happen to have a baby at that point nobody would have had an additional copy and there never would have been this movie there might have been a similar sequel to toy story but it wouldn't have been the same thing or would they even have the money to make a sequel at all

there's actually a really interesting story about this movie that Pixar has mentioned in the past--apparently, on their ancient mummies of Linux and Unix machines back in the late 90s, there was a command called RM*, which would actually systematically delete everything on a hard drive. Some dumbshit accidentally used that command on their animation servers, and they nearly lost the entire movie (bits and pieces were getting actually physically removed from existence before their eyes). Fortunately, someone had a backup of the film on their home computer and managed to save it in time

Yeah, they literally got lucky. Galyn Susman was the supervising technical director of the film. She was away on maternity leave and actually working from home. So she was allowed to have a computer setup at home. Remember, this was before the internet was the way it is now. You can't just download and email or send files across distances with connections. They literally went to her house, safely loaded her entire computer and all the massive drives into a car and drove it to the studio, plugged it in and were so relieved when she had the entire movie backed up on the computer.

A fun fact: while Hamm was changing channels, he was going through a number of old Pixar short films that were created before Toy Story even existed. One of them was Knick Knack which wouldn't be released until Finding Nemo came along. On a related note, the cleaner was Geri from the short film Geri's game which was released with A Bug's Life. His case even includes his chess pieces. We're getting Buzz's real origin story this summer in his own spinoff called Lightyear. However, this is a new incarnation of Buzz. Therefore, he's being voiced by Captain America himself Chris Evans.

This is my favorite Toy Story. When I think of Toy Story, I think of Jessie’s story. I think of the airplane scene. I think of Woody discovering how famous he was. This is just the definitive Toy Story for me. But like you said the first one isn’t bad. And the other ones aren’t even bad! They’re all phenomenal! Also, Jessie’s story makes me cry every time. It’s so sad, man... And the song they chose to accompany that scene was the perfect song. They really couldn’t have chosen a better one

14:20 It was never actually confirmed... but it was a fan theory. Someone posted about how Andy's mom is in fact Emily in Jessie's flashback. Her name is never revealed in the Toy Story movies. But this was why it was a really plausible fan theory. Notice how in the first film and this one, Andy has a red cowboy hat. Emily also has a similar one when Jessie's flashback story plays. It's actually the same as the red one that Jessie wears. And then, in the end, when Bulls-Eye and Jessie are added to Andy's room, the whole entire sequence where Andy goes, "Oh wow, new toys! Thanks mom!" is really sweet but interesting that Andy's mom didn't stop and go, "New toys?? When did I buy new ones?? I just had a yard sale." The theory is that after Emily grew up and had Andy and Molly, she gave her red cowboy hat to her son and chances are, when she saw Jessie, she might have just went with it. She probably thought, "Oh neat! A Jessie doll! I remember having one of those... didn't I give it away? Or did I store it somewhere? Oh well. Andy loves her. So... cool."

Interesting fact: The character who comes in and fixes up Woody is Geri a character from a Pixar short called "Geri's Game". The short is about Geri playing a game of chess by himself. If you watch closely, in Toy Story, when Geri is opening the different departments of his kit, he pulls out one drawer that has chess pieces in it. It happens really fast though. I recommend watching "Geri's Game", it can be found on KZbin. Pixar actually has a lot of good short films. My favorite one is called "For the Birds". Love the Toy Story movies. Looking forward to number three!

There’s a known theory that woody is a hand me down that was given to Andy by his father before he died. So not only is he a vintage rare woody doll, he’s also an important family Toy. That’s the only woody doll that was made. There’s another theory that Andy’s mom was the owner of the Jessie doll, the same girl that is shown in the flashback for Jessie. Another reason this could be true is because Andy wears that same hat Jessie wears, but just a kid size version of it. Wich most likely belonged to his mom

It helps they made only 3 films in the 90's two based on toy story..and they made 1 for over 3 years basically between when they started it and when it came out...movies now a days do not get that much time to fine tune and stuff adjust improve over years due to technology rapidly getting better like this film got between late 1992 and 1995..between 1992-1999 they only had to make 3 movies and start a 4th...now they have to make 6 and start on a 7th in that time span...it's much harder...

A typical Disney movie would have made Jessie the love interest of Woody. The same way they made Mrs. Potato Head, where her only meaning of existence is to be the girlfriend of the hero. But I actually liked that Pixar subverted that expectation, and made her love interest be Buzz. It adds another layer of complexity that Woody's popular show got cancelled because kid's interests shifted from Westerns to Outer Space. The Prospector hated all space toys. And Jessie started to hate them too, because all she ever knew was that her kid got bored of her, and she has been in a dark storage box ever since. She should hate Buzz and everything he represents. But she ends up liking him, so it kind of extends an olive branch between the two genres of toys that should want nothing to do with each other.

There's a pretty solid theory out there about how Jessie's old owner Emily, is actually Andy's Mom.

There is a Nice theory about Toy Story and Monster Inc And the theory is that boo is Andys mom from the past and Emily the kid who lose jessy at the Picnic is Andys mom too. Why? First of all when Sully and Mike say goodbye to Boo, Boo give Sully many toys in his hand and one of them is Jessy. Next clue why Boo and Emily and Andys mom are the same person is first of all the walls in Emilys Room wich had the same clouds as in Andys room. Next clue is Andys cowboyhat wich he is wearing every time when he played with his toys. Because the Hat is not the same as woodys its exactly the same hat as Jessys and Emily who is played with Jessy bevore she give her away had this hat in the flashback scene. And She only gave her toys away not her hat So the conclution is that Boo is Emily from Toy Story because she had Jessy as a child. And Emily is Boo because she played with jessy too and Emily is Andys mom because Andy her son has the same Cowboy-hat like Jessy (Sorry for my englisch im from Germany) 😅

Great reaction bro! When you can, checkout the behind the scenes production of Toy 2. This animated film is the perfect example of a troubled production. OMG!! The horror of it all. YIKES!! 😬😳😳

Emily is Andy's mom In the second movie, Jessie the cowgirl comes into the picture. She had an owner named Emily who neglected her. Fans on reddit, like user BerylliumExtract, have theorized that Emily is actually Andy's mother. Evidence that supports this theory included what viewers see of Emily. Many fans noticed that she looks a lot like Andy and even has a hat like his. It is possible that it's the same hat if Emily is indeed Andy's mom.

Even if the first and third movie are ahead of this on many people’s rankings, this is a still a fantastic film/sequels. Lot of good memories watching this (and playing the tie-in Buzz Lightyear video game) as a kid. As for the upcoming Lightyear movie (staring Captain America himself Chris Evans) let’s hope it can be just as epic as that opening scene 🙂

What I love about this movie is that a lot of people support Woody staying with the round up gang because Prospecter does bring up a good point, that Andy is going to grow up, and that's something no "Toy" or parent likes seeing, their child getting older and needing you less and less but you needing them more and more as time goes on. I look at the Toy's as metaphor's for a child's parents, when they are young they want to be around you 24/7. But as they get older they start finding their own path in the world and making choices that while you may not always agree with, you have to let them make those choices and mistakes. Look at the Villain in the first Dr Strange movie when he wanted to send all of Earth to the Dark Dimension because time doesn't exist there. Or how many time do you see the older generation saying to the younger generation "Youth is wasted on the young" or the most used expression "If I only knew then what I know now" You can't stop time from moving forward but you can accept it and move forward with it.

He says he was made in the late 1950s, so if we assume the first movie took place around 1995 when it was released and the third and fourth movies take place about 10-11 years later, that would make him about 40 years old in the first two movies, about 50 years old in the later two. The first three Toy Story films center on Woody's relationship with his kid, Andy. But while Andy was born in 1989, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 4 both point out that Woody is a collectible toy from the 1950's. What was Woody's life like for the 40 years before he met Andy? The movies do not explicitly state the years in which they take place, which makes the Toy Story film timeline inexact. However, references within the films can date the first movie as taking place in 1995. This means that Andy, who is turning six in the first film, was born in 1989. Woody and Andy were friends from an early age, so Woody and Andy could have first met when Andy was a baby. When Al tries to buy Woody at the yard sale in Toy Story 2, Andy's mother apologizes and takes Woody back, saying that he is "an old family toy." Andy is only around eight years old in Toy Story 2, and as his mother identifies Woody as a family toy, rather than her son's toy, that seems to signal that Woody has been in the family's possession longer than Andy has been alive. In Toy Story 2, Woody remarks, "A record player! I haven't seen one of these in ages." It's unlikely that Andy would have had a record player in the 1990s, so this would indicate that Woody does have memories of his life before. It's likely that Woody was owned by one of Andy's parents when they were children. Some fan theories go deep into Andy's missing father, and hinge on the idea that Woody once belonged to him; because Andy associates Woody with his father, he is all the more attached to the toy. The difference between his previous owner(s) and Andy is that Woody was Andy's favorite toy, and the connection that they shared was special.

Since you mentioned TV show, there actually was a Buzz Lightyear cartoon in the early 2000s. It was called Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and it’s surprisingly good for a cartoon spin-off. Very reminiscent of classic Sci-Fi, like Star Trek. I would recommend it :)

17:25 Actually, this was my favorite line when I first saw this movie as a kid. You can TELL there were Star Wars fans in the staff when they made this scene. XD Personal fun fact: I had never seen the Original Trilogy when I watched Toy Story 2. At the time, I only ever saw The Phantom Menace and on television, Attack of the Clones was constantly playing. So I always remembered snippets of scenes growing up. It wasn't until my dad sat me down and I marathoned the entire original trilogy of Star Wars on VHS that I started my star wars journey. Then, after finishing the original trilogy, I played this movie again and I was ecstatic and I loved seeing this scene with Buzz and Zerg as the reference. Now I always laugh so hard whenever this scene plays.
