"I don't want to go back to work.." I felt that. The best advice I was ever given before leaving for a vacation was to clean the house before hand. Not a top to bottom scrub or anything just make sure the dishes and laundry are clean and put away so you don't come back to a mess. Also having at least a day at home to relax and wind down helps me a lot before having to go back to work.
@motorman111jld Жыл бұрын
Great advice. One thing our family ended up doing was constantly running running running on vacation. To me, that's not vacation. Vacation should be relaxing time in my opinion. If there's a lot I want to do, I'm planning more days to do them in.

I waited tables in a restaurant as a teen in Minnesota, and every once in a while I'd have a Southern customer who'd ask for sweet tea. I had NO CLUE what that was (been living down here for 25 yrs, so I'm good now). Other times, our Southern visitors would be totally SHOCKED when in the middle of the winter they asked for fresh-brewed iced tea, and I'd have to try not to look at them funny and tell them that we only sold powdered iced tea in the winter.

When you take a vacation, a week or more, it’s very very important to have a after-vacation of at least 24-48 before returning to the dungeon, I mean work. I took a 7 day cruise once. The 24 hour layover we had in an Italian like villa hotel turned out to be the smartest part of our trip. 24 hours to unwind in a four poster bed with balcony was the perfect recipe to head back to work on Monday refreshed.

Thanks for loving our mountains, buddy. We are emerald green most of the year. Then it goes to brown. I've heard people from California coming to Tennessee and they literally get what is called the Green Shock. It's like a culture shock, but for your eyeballs. And for us going to California, we've often been told to wear green glasses because we're not used to the lack of green. It's even odder when it's overcast or even cloudy, the cloudiness makes everything look even greener. You want Tennessee to look even more green? Take a good look outside during a cloudy day.

There are many, MANY different places to rent cabins in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Fireside Chalets in Pigeon Forge is a very reputable company. Just Google and you will find lots of places. If you want to stay out of the traffic and busyness of the touristy areas of G’burg and PF, try staying in the little town of Townsend. There’s plenty to do - tubing in the river, antique shopping, hiking, eating at good restaurants, fishing, exploring Tuckaleechee Caverns, horseback riding, camping, etc. I am fortunate to have a friend with homes in this area, so I get to visit a lot. I love it!!!

We remembered Sevierville, good food there. Some there thought we might like a resort in the mountains that locals would weekend at. They could bring their own local whiskey and not have to drive. Some said it was “clothing optional” but we didn’t see much of that option. Generally nice campsites, RVs, and some cabins and facilities. Loved that Tennessee folk had their own ways, and they appreciated the tourism, naked or not, that the resort brought. Good people.
