Great video, thanks! My Rye of the past year - had it for the first time - is Old Ezra 7 Rye Full Proof @114. I experimented quite a bit in the Rye territory in 2024 for the first ime, and the Ezra stood out by having an extraordinary mouthfeel imo.

Grey wolf rye out of Maryland is fantastic! Castle and key single barrel rye is pretty good as well.

Really wish I could find that New Riff in TN. Love their standard, mallted, and single barrel ryes so imagine that is pretty damn great. Great list, drink more Rye!!

​@@ianreynolds494have you checked their website? That's how I scored my bottle of rye. They will often do drops of more specialty items too. Both 8 years eventually came here to Connecticut in very limited quantities, the rye even more so. Good luck!

Sagamore 9 yr Rye and Emerald Giant cask (not sure when it released). Finished rye goes to Sagamore triple Cask Pursuit needs to find its way to my bar because I keep hearing nothing but good things

I've gotten more into Ryes in 2024 - after finding a bottle of Michter's SIngle Barrel, Barrel Proof at retail, and realizing what rye is capable of. I have no doubt the 10 Year Michter's rye is great, but also agree that the basic "baby" Sazarac Rye is very good - especially for the price (and I mean straight - not just for mixed drinks, though it's perfect in a Monte Carlo). For me, Bardstown Origin Rye is also a staple on my shelf.

I was slightly offended when HH released the Grain to Glass series because it seemed like a big markup for a gimmicky experimental bottle. But I tried the rye at a bar and was blown away. I have an open bottle and the backup on my shelf now. It's gotten some pretty good reviews anecdotally but I still feel like it's been overlooked.

I have the NR 8 year rye. It's good and seems to be getting better with air. It's almost the opposite result of the 8 year bourbon which I LOVED when freshly cracked but has fallen off a smidge as it's opened up. When those New Riff 8s came out, it was slightly puzzling that as they celebrated their 10 year anniversary, there were no 10 year releases. Not even single barrels. I theorize that they perhaps were not quite dialed in yet on their processes and the oldest barrels were just not up to their standard. It seems they've been blended into the 8 year as while they are 100 proof, they are not Bottled In Bond releases. Will be interesting to see if that changes later this year... Either one is worth getting but still fall a bit short of their best 4-5 year single barrels out there.

@guitarswhiskeyandgolf I wanna temper my thoughts too as I have 19 NR bottles currently and have killed at least 10 in the past. They do fly a bit under the radar for most people but I've been cheering them in since 2019!! Cheers!

Head to head blinds don't bring out flaws in whiskey. It brings out the flaws in your ability to taste the whiskey after drinking other whiskeys in succession. It's the same whiskey. Your palette is changed. Blinds give insight into how a particular whiskey drinks when drank in the specific order, the specific time frame on the specific date you drank, in the specific emotional state you are in. It eliminates expectations but is a terrible way to evaluate whiskey because its not how you usually drink whiskey. Toothpaste doesn't reveal the flaws in orange juice

@@OrangeTuxRad agree the JD barrel proof rye was a big omission but I think I heard them say there were 19 contenders this year without naming the ones that fell out of the top 10. Idk if the thumbnail was meant to throw people off or if those bottles are indeed some that were in the running.
