I don't trust my brushes in the wash. The sponges, sure. The brushes though, I don't like the idea of all that water in the ferule. I would imagine that will cause damage of the wood component as well.

Yesss it's so bad for the ferrule and will make them fall apart so much faster! That's why you should always dry your brushes with the handles facing upwards so the water doesn't run down into them. Washing them is a horrible idea, sponges maybe but definitely not brushes if you want them to last

Yep. Although if maybe you get brushes in PR or don't mind regluing the brush part to the handles with some E-6000 from time to time, I like the speed of machine washing them.

Happy Vlogmas!! The washing of brushes in the washing machine doesn’t make sense to me because most brush cleaning instructions say not to get the base of the bristles wet. It can cause bristles to fall out.

I agree the bristles are glued in and immersing them in water for an extended period of time loosens them and will eventually destroy the expensive brushes.

Hey Jess! MUA here 🙋🏽‍♀️ So the reason we keep brushes head down while washing and drying, and try to avoid submerging brushes in water/cleaner is that if it gets into the ferrule (the metal part where the hairs are glued) it will start breaking down and your brushes won't last as long. In all my years I have yet to find a better way of cleaning than by hand, unfortunately 😪 On another note, LOVING vlogmas guys! Ye are doing great! Sending love from Ireland 🇮🇪 (loved the shoutout!)

I think you might be better adding a towel into the wash with the brushes because there is something dense for them to rub against. But I'd also be concerned about the ferrol loosening up.

Ahhhh!! No to the washing machine! Oh well, too late.🤣 Submerging the ferrule & handle of a makeup brush in water (for more than a a few seconds) will shorten the life of your brushes A LOT. It breaks down the glue and/or stitching at the base of the bristles & encourages the growth of mould... Which is why you're also meant to let brushes dry hanging upside down, or at least at an angle if you lay them on a towel. . You're better off spraying them with an anti-bacterial brush spray or using a brush wipe if you are short on time! Hope this helps! 😊❤️

My cousin loves cooking, but used to live in an apartment with a really small kitchen, so she couldn’t have a lot of supplies. Now she and her husband have bought a house and are completely renovating it. She plans on having a luxurious kitchen so she can cook (she has literally said that this is the most important area in the house to her). I agree with you on a suite of liquid measuring cups. I got some different sizes from an elderly neighbor who passed away. I don’t know how I lived with only one before. The other things I cannot live without are, restaurant tongs (actually bought them from a restaurant going out of business. I have a silicone spatula that has a scoopy shape which is so useful. Also we have 5 cutting boards, because we use them so much. Parchment paper is also a game changer for baking fish and roasting veggies. I don’t even like cooking!

Soaking the ferrule in the washer can wear down the glue and loosen it. Sigma recommends avoiding getting water into the ferrule when hand washing to help extend the life of the brushes. I’m curious about your results over time.

I remember Tyler talking about his channel comments way-back-when, and to this day it still baffles me! Emily Noel used to do weekly vlogs for so long, and when she was doing that her kids were about 2 and 4ish, or near that. Her videos don't have commenting off. A lot of thermometers come with calibration certificates showing they they are calibrated and accurate. That is just a little tidbit that may help you know how accurate your thermometer is!

I put less brushes in each bag and a better detergent like tide on a regular cycle. I've been doing my sponges and brushes this way for years.

I use this soap sold at Walmart called “zote” to wash my brushes and sponges and it makes the washing process super fast. I love that it lathers so well but it washes off super fast. I highly recommend it 👍

I use those squiggly potato mashers for crumbling ground beef ... less stuff when multitasking tools are available! Try them... they are the best!!

I have been watching your videos for years feel like I am part of your family. I lost my travel agent job in April due to COVID and having a super hard time. I have been in the travel business for 33 years and can’t find a job . Knowing that I could be homeless in months is unreal. For the makeup brushes in the washer- most washers need weight in it to sense and clean thoroughly. I wonder if you need to wash them with a towel load or something heavier
