Whenever I hear Koreans use the word 세 (fierce/strong) to describe a woman, it rlly irritates me because the word has negative connotations in Korea. Like if a girl isn't shy and pure-looking, she's too much to handle. They make it seem like self assurance and boldness are character flaws in a woman

that has to do with a long historical background to why being soft spoken as a girl is important in Korea, Japan, and China. But things are slowly changing in those countries. @NinaPB6 жыл бұрын
Opinions can be based on racism and anti-Blackness. What do you think it means when people prefer “bright skin”? Some of the opinions expressed in this video were absolutely biased and stereotypical. Spanish women are “passionate”? SZA looked “fierce”? It would have been nice if they were asked for clarifications and reasons behind some of their answers. It’s odd to me that so many videos stress Koreans’ preference for “bright skin” when in America, when we talk about bias and discrimination against people of color, we are absolutely including Asians. It wasn’t surprising that so many preferred JL and EW. Many people of color, including Asians, have bought the European beauty standard hype and it’s sad.

The comments section is disgusting, as usual, but I don't think the guys answers were bad. Most of them didn't have much of a preference and focused on the whole appearance of a girl. When asked to choose, they chose someone. It doesn't mean they thought the other women were ugly. As for SZA, there was only one dark woman on there (Beyonce being really light). That's not a lot of variation. Perhaps they weren't into her and not making a comment on dark women as a whole. It's SZA has strong features. They picked Emma who has a lot less prominent features. Perhaps if they had picked Zendaya or Meagan Good, who have more of that pretty girl next door look it would have been different. If you follow Korean media you'll know some of the most popular girls ride the line between beautiful and average. IU is a great example of this. She's pretty but not overly so. Like if you were to pass her on the streets with no makeup, you might not notice her. Let's not obsess about what men across the world, who are mostly just average guys, think of Black women. It's just not that serious.

Its interesting (in a negative way, really) how the girls they chose as being the most beautiful reflect what koreans are trying to look like nowadays: pale skin and innocent looking features. I believe that if they asked random american dudes who they thought were the most beautiful out of that list the results would be more diverse, even if they only chose to interview men of only one race. It's crazy to me that out of 12 beautiful women they all chose the same 2, Korea's standards of beauty feel veyr stiff (as far as possible, since every human is different from the next) but thats understandable since 97% of their country's population are the same race

As much as I don't agree with Korea's beauty standard, I appreciate the honesty from the guys who were interviewed. I mean, come on, we all have preferences don't we? Touch your heart and ask yourself, don't you prefer a certain look on guys/girls as well? I find it hard to believe if you say you like all looks equally. Subjectivity is what makes us human so who are you to criticise the beauty standard of others?

Why do people turn everything into racism and always victimize themselves about everything? Like I can say “I hate eating broccoli.” And someone will cry about it because it’s their favorite vegetable. This is literally how dumb everyone sounds. People have personal taste. You can think someone is the most beautiful person you’ve ever seen on the planet and to someone else they’ll just be average. So what?
@yutisima6 жыл бұрын
i fully agree with your opinion but your example is bad used, you can say "I hate brocoli" and that would be ok because you had tried it and it tasted horrible to you, but you can't say something like "I hate latinx people" because they are not food and it would be racist if you "hated" them for being latinx, anyway I still agree w/u

Hating broccoli is one thing - it's not going to affect how laws are enacted around who can consume broccoli or in what way. AllAboutPuta my point here are not tastes, what you like or not it’s something subjective but they judge the personality of a woman just because of her body type and face features
@PaperJulia7 жыл бұрын
That's basic human psychology, we all do that, meaning judging someone based on their looks, especially their attractiveness. We automatically assume attractive people to have positive traits and personalities and the other way around, it's called the Physical attractiveness stereotype.
@enfpflower57517 жыл бұрын
송민지 i understand that everyone judges based on looks, but if you don’t know in their culture they use to judge or treat someone just based on looks, 90%looks 10% personality is important to them. Idk which picture you showed your friend, but they think that curvy women are fat or that healthy muscles is just too much (skinny is the standard) and they even dare to say that Seolhyun is curvy when she’s skinny af. This is the link to the guys who said that curvy girls are hard to handle kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnLMoGl8rNiWfaM

April White then people should judge less based on looks, if a person is pretty or cute it says nothing about their personality
@enfpflower57517 жыл бұрын
송민지 This is not the case bcs foreigners (89%) are not obsessed over looks as Koreans (I have asian friends who agree with me, for western standards you just have to be confident abd be yourself and that’s it but in korea even people on the street will talk to you and say that you’d look prettier if you’d loose/change something/ passive aggressive comments) and I’ve lived already in 3 different countries, I’ve made friends with people of different races and colors. SK is one of the countries with the most plastic surgery of the world if not the first in 2017. And I’m not skinny shaming anyone, but we all are different born with different body shapes and they push their crazy stupid standards into everyone. Making girls/women feel ashamed of how they look and pressure them to diet or to change their naturally beautiful faces to plastic dolls. This is how eating disorders and obsessions start. „Scientists“ even used some kind of „Mathematics“ and computers to calculate the perfect face, marketing tricks for girls to undergo ps

Absolutely! The University Of Wisconsin once did a study on this, and found that "non-physical traits known only to familiars, such as how much the person was liked, respected and contributed to shared goals, had a large effect on the perception of physical attractiveness that was invisible to the strangers." So basically, there is a high chance they perceive them as more attractive because they know them and associate them with something positive, i.e. a movie or character they liked. Interestingly, this also works in the opposite direction, then known as the physical-attractiveness stereotype.

There just stating there ideal standards and obviously since in Korea pale skin, innocent and cute facial features are seen more desirable and pushed by media they'll choose celebrities that have that. Chill. People are allowed to share their thoughts. Most of them are shocked that their ideals of beauty only revolve around one type: white, soft features. Whereas in America or another country, it would be much more diverse. The term they used for girls they didn’t like actually had a negative connotation to it. Most of these ‘preferences’ are based on stereotypes and misconceptions. Literally everyone I saw has shared their thoughts in a mature and polite way. No one was getting mad or ‘triggered’. Asian beauty standards are very anti-dark (and not gonna lie, a lot of times just anti-black/racist), and you can't be surprised they didn't choose any of the black women. I'm Asian-American, and I think SZA is more attractive than most of the women on the list. However, keep in mind I have an American mentality where our beauty standards are much more broad than in Korea. I’m a tan Asian myself but I don’t get why everyone is getting so angry over the comments... this is featuring korean men with korean beauty standards who are tasked to pick a choice between 2 options and obviously they’ll pick with what they prefer/are familiar with... I mean if you go to a western country, most of the guys would pick according to the western beauty standards too. It’s just different for different people. It doesn’t matter if you don’t fit their beauty standard as long as you’re confident about yourself. There’s no need to get so angry over these few guys’ opinions.

I'm very interested in what countries come to their mind when the interviewer said 'Asian' countries. I'd naturally think India and the Philippines because I'm very exposed to them and they've won numerous beauty pageants. People in countries like Turkey and Kazakhstan have Eurasian features so I think they're really beautiful. I also think many of the Uyghur Chinese are beautiful too. People around me usually say Koreans do a lot of surgery, and I realized I think like that too bcoz I often google Korean celebrities before and after photos.
