Completely agree the MK1 TT is a fantastic car and every time I sat in mine I was always impressed with the quality and the style of it. The beautiful purr of the 3.2 VR6 was heavenly (not so much when visiting the petrol pump) and shifted along with the DSG box. If it hadn’t been killed by some idiot driving into it I’d have kept it in storage as there really isn’t much else around with that package at that price point.

Another great video. The 2001 TT 1.8T 180 Quattro I picked up a few months back, after being reintrigued in the TT by your videos, has a lovely 6 speed box - so maybe the 5 speed isn't 'the one'. I'm really enjoying my TT, it's a 5th car but does get used and it's a joy. I believe the 1.8t suffers from sludge build up, due to lack of oil changes and rubber degradation - the PCV system gets blocked, prevents oil from getting to the top of the engine and bits start to go flying around the internals. Saab also suffered this problem from 98-03 with the 9-5 and 00-02 with the 9-3, which was widely publicised.. VW's issue went quietly under the radar.
@paulmurphy9151 Жыл бұрын
@@lukemallory7832 I think it's less to do with the PCV and more to do with the sump oil pickup pipe strainer getting blocked and causing oil starvation of the big ends. It's pretty well known and the first thing I do when buying a TT (I've had 5) is drop the sump and replace the oil pickup pipe.
@lukemallory7832 Жыл бұрын

Handled like a dog. It lasted 4 months before being sacked off. To compare these with Boxsters or Z4’s is like comparing night and day. Totally different level.
