How refreshing, a video not trashing a car, which is very easy to do. Every car has faults. Especially an older one. And knowing how bad the conditions are that car is living in (U.K. weather and roads), it's actually surprising to hear all this. Thanks for not going the direction everyone else on youtube is going.

Would be interesting if you buy the L322 4.4 TDV8. As far as I'm aware you've already driven 3 different L322's (and owned 2) with different engines. So would be nice to see the comparison! You inspired me by the way to buy an L322. Best decision ever!

Fantastic Joel this is what it is all about. Keep it going Joel throughout winter and then perhaps move it on. Although a RR sounds great, just remember how you felt when you had the green one and the diesel one. This is a much better car. May I suggest a A6 Allroad for your next car ?

Another vote for you to get a L322 4.4tdv8. I'm 8 months into ownership of a 2012 4.4TDV8 Westminster, and apart from a ride height sensor which was cheap to fix DIY, it's been superb. Every journey seems special in this.

@orwell9579
@orwell9579 2 күн бұрын
@@JohnBaxendale It's indeed less common on a 4.4 but I was out of luck I guess. Turbo failure on a 3.6 almost always has its origins in EGR problems that cause clogged vanes. In my case oil somehow got into the intercooler and was sucked up by the engine which led to turbo failure. Body had to be lifted so a high labour cost.

Keep it - I have the exact same car on a '56 plate & I will confirm that the costs can get a bit saucy but then again, you kind of know it will when you buy it. For example my wipers broke the other day & it is £800 to get the whole issue sorted with a fit etc. If that was something cheap like an Insignia it would be about half that price for the same job. However, dont let it put you off as these really are fantastic & I would say the V6 is the better option to avoid some of the other really painful issues they can have (and 250bhp is fine for daily driving, I never feel short on power really). It is much more interesting than the equivalent range rover as well!

I don’t own a Cayenne, but I’m delighted to hear you yet again mention that a majority of these cars are actually quite reliable; if you only read a few comments on some trashy forum you’ll get a bunch of Lexus people complaining about RR’s being unreliable. These people have also (mostly) never owned a Range Rover. This is coming from someone who owns a QP5 and have had many Range Rover’s, and a new Defender 90….

Something that isn’t taken into account a lot, and should be. If I have to spend 2k a year on my 2001 jag xkr, I can live with that. Because the 330e I sold recently, lost me just shy of 1k a month on depreciation. Granted if I kept it for an extra year the depreciation per month would be less, but still a hell of a lot more than 200 per month that old car maintenance works out to be.

@@itsjoel I think they get under your skin. In my 4 years of ownership it's been good to me, just a starter motor which I fixed myself for free. Regular servicing and relatively low miles, but it's been a gem. My other car is an old 996 and tbh the two cars together are just my dream 2 car garage. Comfort and luxury for big trips in the L322, then a fun little manual toy in the 996 for weekends, heaven!

I've had a couple of cayennes and also a v10 touareg(basically the same car). They have nice quality mostly. But i've found quality is lacking in some areas. they usually get water inside because of blocked water outlets. And that leads to a lot of electrical problems. Air suspension is a pain sometimes when it starts to act up. Auto valve body can fail, front differential can fail.. interior plastic is not very high quality, V8s can have cylinder scoring and lots lots more that happens with these cars. I think you got a bit lucky with this one. They are great cars when they run :)

Hi Joel, always love the content but in particular the cayenne content, mainly because I picked up a 955 V6 at a similar time to you, so it’s been great to follow the journey. Unfortunately my experience has been vastly different to yours. I found the engine to be super reliable, however that couldn’t be said for everything else around it. I had consistent EML’s & PSM alerts, driveshaft knocking as mentioned in the video, coolant leaks, gearbox issues & what ultimately killed the car was a rotten subframe that made it uneconomical to repair. That being said, I do still think they are fantastic and the prices they are currently at makes them a pretty low risk gamble, even if the running costs are quite high! That being said, if another one came up around me and it had been well looked after then I’d happily pay a bit more to get behind the wheel of one again!

I have owned a 957 VR6 for 2 years with over 200k km - no issues whatsoever. Fuel consumption (no chance to get much below 11L /100km) is much higher than a 958 for example.

I daily drive my 2001 BMW V8 X5. It’s hard to beat an old school V8 in a fully loaded vehicle with all the toys. I’ve had some major works done on it in the last 10 years since I’ve owned it that’s cost a few quid but it still soldiers on. I did have a 955 with the proper engine before the X5 and although it was reliable I always felt it was fragile - especially the interior trim bits. I quite often keep a look out for another but it’s gonna have to be a silver or gun metal grey with brown interior.. Just sold my Audi Q7 4.2tdi as well. Nice car but a bit too long.

For me, as an owner of a Turbo, mechanical sympathy is key with these, just like it should be with all cars, and maintenance - so... Well you have gotten your car to be reliable and you trust it, and now have an understandable itch to try something else, it's the idea of have something new to you that is exciting. The basic choice here is now cost, you are in a good place (apart from the fuel thing) and you could go for another car, but you being you, you are going to have to go through all the preventative maintenance things again, at a cost, and who knows what will come of that... Ultimately it is just a question of how much you want to spend. A good well cared for vehicle will look after you, an abused one will punish you, and the people who do that always blames the vehicle... I look forward to where the winds of fortune take you...

Joel, I'd keep the Cayenne. As you say, it has proven to be reliable and not overtly expensive over the last 12,000 miles. I know that it isn't good for your channel views, but you need a car that you can basically rely on 100% - you have it there. Mess about (pardon the pun) with the Maserati or whatever follows that. Good viewing and good for shouting down some of the naysayers.
