Money Game 1 was done in a friends basement and took 186 takes over 3 days. They had almost no budget and you can tell from the lack of mics / background noise. Money Game 2 was done about a year later and was originally done as a MV as well but they lost half of the sound from the take they accepted. So this is why we have the lyric video. Also, Shell Oil company started in the mid 1800's as a company that sold shells and other misc. items. Money Game 3 was done after Hi Ren and is the only MV he's done so far that has cost over $2,000. Of course, that one has won several international awards.

There is a behind the scenes video of Money Game 3. In it Ren does a hand off of the partially loaded clip to the cameraman's support behind him. Ren reaches down under his arm and passes the loaded cartridge for a blank. But in any case, the gun is a replica 45 and cannot fire. The need to pass off the clip was that if the clip held fake bullets it would pop out of the gun!

Part 3 is an embodiment of the phrase Ren makes in part 1, when the music cuts out and he's standing he points his finger at the guitarist and makes the statement "turns a child into a killer, with his finger on the trigger of a money game". Ren shows exactly how that can happen here. It's the only reference he actually makes to the money game in part 3, connecting it back to 1 & 2 Another masterpiece! 💞🐷

in part 1, he's paying homage to Childish Gambino (Donald Glover), a reference to his music video "This is America". Which, if you haven't seen it, is also filled to the brim with undertones and social commentary. And the entire chorus of 1 and 2 is manifested in Jimmy's life. Also while we're on Jimmy, Jimmy is a nickname for James, Screech's real name, which of course, he also references with "it's such a #$%@ shame.".

And another suggestion: Ren ft. Bibi - Crutch: An IMHO absolutely underrated older song. Crutch dates back to a time when Ren didn't have his diagnosis yet and thought he wouldn't live much longer. Heartbreaking, beautiful and deep. It has a great no-budget video as well.

10:38 this bit ... the cadence/rhythm of his words. I play guitar bass and drums, what he does here with his cadence with his voice, is so instrumental, from a musical arrangement POV, its genius,. How he evolves he rhythm of his words to at first joining the music he is spitting on, and then augmenting it leading into the next parts all the way up to and including step 10 are arrangement genius. In particular though this little section here as it starts up, is very much , rhythmically like a great drum fill that leads one section into another, in this case its the same section but illustrates a change in energy. Ren is a Musical genius

Usually when you see a music video there’s a lot of expertise from different fields coming together- something special when you have the same person creating the concept, music, lyrics, performance, direction, and a message they really believe in - you just don’t get the level of passion that Ren has here. Not to downplay the great cinematography by Sam, who’s worked with Ren for many years, and who helped get this to masterpiece level. It’s sheer brilliance.

A crazy side bar. Is a behind the scenes comment how after they finished the final filming of money game 3 they were driving home in the van with the prop gun, prop bullets actual gun illegal in Britton! And all the prop cocaine and scales etc… it would have been a very interesting conversation if they got pulled over for some reason during that drive home explaining that entire scenario.

Actually, there is 1 cut & it happens when the camera goes around behind his wheelchair. It had to be done because he only had 1 suit & it was soaked by the "rain." What was filmed after the "rain" absolutely had to be a single attempt & a single take.

Money Game 1 was Ren's first 1-take video with Samuel Perry-Falvey ( may be misspelled). There are 2 Sam besties in Ren's life. This one met when kids, at a hippie festival. Both had hippie leaning parents. And Sam Tompkins Ren seen busking accapella and no amp, at age 16 and Ren (in early 20's) was amazed with Sam's voice so stopped and offerred the use of his amp and mic and to play while Sam sang. Eventually years later the song "Blindeyed" written by Sam T. and performed on the street in Brighton England, by him and Ren was 1st song that went viral! For Ren and Sam T.
