I think the main difference between the Tesla and the Lyric is ride quality. The Tesla is somewhat noisy and austere. The Lyric is the quietest, smoothest riding car I’ve driven. I consider my Lyric a combination of three cars I’ve loved in the past. My Porsche, my Audi and my LINCOLN CONTINENTAL. It has a responsive ride, lots of zip and lots of luxury … as well reasonable room for a family.

After a half century, Cadillac has finally delivered a car that can be considered a luxury vehicle. GM did a good job. The Escalade EV also looks amazing. In comparison, the Model Y feels significantly downscale and austere. But the Y is a premium car, not a luxury vehicle. I especially like the illuminated door handles on the Lyric, which is a huge benefit at night and is a much better design than the Model Y. The range of the Lyric isn’t surprising since the battery is nearly 30% larger. It’s even larger than the one in the Model X but is a much smaller car. GM uses LG as their battery supplier, and it isn’t known to be great battery tech. As for the front trunk, our friend who just bought a Lyric assumed it would have one. They have a ski boat, and would love to have a front trunk to put damp items. I use the frunk in my Model X for food items, especially for takeout that smells, and in the winter where groceries can stay cold. GM should offer a front trunk even if “most people” don’t use it, because it would justify the otherwise inefficient design of the front end. Lyric’s acceleration is quick for those who are coming from a gas car, but much slower compared to what Tesla offers. Overall though, the Lyriq is an amazing deal. It gives you a lot for your money, and no buyer would need to make excuses as to why they chose it.

Very well done. Unbiased review. I liked how you pointed out the fit & finish of the car from legacy auto makers. Software is an issue from GM. State of charge had a camera warning that wouldn’t go away. He got great mileage from the vehicle. He charge it from zero & max was 179 for 10 mins. He showed grafts of his car. it went up & down but minimum at maximum wattage. Interior is busy for me but I did like the seats & comfy ride. 0:01 too many buttons/knobs to wear out & get broken. American luxury for sure. I’m happy with my Tesla. Minimum repairs & very reliable. Except for tires & insurance, very affordable.

Excellent unbiased review from an EV enthusiast formerly known as Like Tesla. As a Tesla fanboy, I feel they over estimate range, while most other companies under estimate and over deliver. My model S LR gets well under 400 mi while the EQS 580 delivers well over 400 miles, peaking at 459 for me. Kudos to separating tech, premium, and luxury vehicles. While models S/X have a premium or luxury price, they are not, just tech cars. To achieve luxury, it requires ambient lighting, massage seating, metal vs plastic, and more features.

Electrify America was a result of the settlement the government made with Volkswagen after they were found to have emissions cheating devices on their cars to give them better emissions than what they actually had. So they had to pay a big bunch of billions into a fund which created Electrify America. It is no surprise that they have no interest in making a better product or service. My biggest complaint about the Lyriq is that Cadillac bait and switched us from the debut edition onto the “trim levels“. Your car is a level one trim. As you point out, you are missing things like the blue felt liner and you’re also missing the ventilated massage seats, enhanced speakers, and of course: supercruise among other things. The debut edition came with everything. Supposedly the delivery of the level two at the level three trims is being held up because there’s a problem with super cruise programming right now. I believe that what Cadillac should’ve done was simply given us the cars with supercruise deactivated, and then activated it when supercruise was ready for prime time. As expensive as the lyric is all of these cars should have their Heated/ventilated seating and massage included. For the price you’re paying for one of these things you could’ve gotten a fully optioned XT 5 or XT6. I’ve been waiting for my car months beyond what I expected. The delivery to require me to wait. Yesterday I got my level two charger installed onto the side of my house. It’s a J 17 772 plug so I can pretty much use any car even if I needed to use the adapter for a Tesla. The only Tesla uncomfortable in is the Tesla model X or the cyber truck and since they are so much more expensive , I’m forced to stick with Cadillac.

And, though the Tesla is not a luxury car, it’s comfortable enough, with tons of storage space and decent range. Would I want 350 miles of range instead of about 280 (real world, Model Y LR)? That would be nice, but it still wouldn’t get me LA to SF without charging. This is a great first generation EV by GM under the Cadillac Brand. I was a skeptic of their ultium platform but looks like they've done a good job. Tesla still wins in my book for now due to slightly better efficiency, Cheaper price, front trunk and NACS. Until GM moves to NACS and adds a front trunk i think they'll still have a tough time. I finally got my Lyriq AWD Luxury 3. I recently drove the Tesla Model Y prior to the New Year. THERE IS NO COMPETITION. The Model Y will outsell the Lyriq because it's considerably cheaper, but the Lyriq is absolutely a luxury car while the Model Y is a rental-grade consumer appliance. What's interesting, however, is how much Tesla got right. Tesla has a superior infrastructure to EV-GO who I get 2 years of charging with. Tesla has superior self-driving technology - my Lyriq can't obey stop lights and until ULTRA CUISE comes out, Super Cruise doesn't work on anything but Highways. Tesla's "less-is-more" presentation makes it very comfortable. I think the redesigned Model Y and the redesigned Model 3 will perfect their formula.

The thing feels like a Mercedes S-class inside when you have the lighter color/ off white interior. Right now Cadillac is giving $7500 cash off the Lyriq. As for the charging experience: I got 2 years of free EV-Go, but I have a STEP-2 40 AMP wall charger at home that recharges my Lyriq whilst I sleep.

Gee thanks, Kim. When I woke up this morning and put on my CyberTruck T-shirt, I took a minute to think about how I cannot wait for production to start. Fast forward to this afternoon and watching your review. Never thought I'd say... Maybe I want a Caddy? It's a *no* right now. Charging is a deal breaker. But in a year or two? sigh. First world problems.

Thanks for the great review! I think the charging issue is temporary and certainly not a deal breaker for those who can charge at home - primarily using the SUV as an "in town" sports shuttle car. This thing looks a zillion times better than my MYP and is fast enough. But what ADM will dealers charge? It's already low $70s with an AWD Level 2 spec for me. No way in hell I would pay $80k with ADM!
@aces08 Жыл бұрын
There are dealers that don't charge ADM! I originally was going to buy my '23 lyriq in houston,tx but they wanted 10k ADM i switched my order to another dealer in Galveston, tx, and no markup!

I just traded my Y for the Lydia. Best decision. From car features to the customer service difference between the two. And now even better that we can charge at Supercharge stations
@RussellFineArt Жыл бұрын
I just bought a Model Y 2 months ago and considered the Lyriq, but, the price was a little higher, I didn't want the CCS charge headaches and the amount of chrome on the Lyriq, YUK! Would like for GM to put a frunk in the Lyriq, shorten it several inches and get rid of the 1960's chrome and so many lights, that really only appeals to seniors. Otherwise, great car.

I have really become adjusted to the Tesla philosophy of ,”the best part is no part”. The Lyriq seems to have way too much in extra lights and trim, but that is the Cadillac brand and DNA. It looks like they know what their future customers will be happy with and getting on to the superchargers next year 29:40 will be a big deal. With the prevalence of obesity in America the big comfortable seats with massage will draw a lot of attention.😊

Only a Tesla owner would compare a Tesla Model Y to a Cadillac. The comparison should be Genesis GV70 vs. Cadillac Lyriq. Far as the tech, most EVs have tech that the Tesla doesn't even offer.

I've test driven both cars and there is no comparison. Lyriq us far more luxurious. It has both tech and old style built in. The Tesla was a very cold tinny car to be in. I've just ordered my Lyriq.😊

When EA adopts the NACS system, is it really going to instantly make everything work? I highly doubt it. The NACS is just the delivery connector. The issue with EA, as far as I can tell with the limited (horrible) experiences I've had with it, it's the network/software that is the issue. And a simple changing of the connectors won't fix that. But that's just my thought on it all.
@billjohnson3344 Жыл бұрын
I don't think that's what she meant. When the car has NACS, you can use the Tesla SuperChargers, which are way more reliable. Reliability of EA with NACS is going to be the same as EA with CCS.
@user-wf6cn6zv1j Жыл бұрын
All EA stations are always at a minimum 25% broken. Usually 50% broken. Them trying to get it to actually work and charge reliably is another problem. I'm summer's EA is even worse.

Love the lyriq , the charging is a big issue. I drive 25k miles a year and electrify América is the most unrieable thing out there right now. Plus the door handles for the 23 is awful. we'll wait a little longer. Happy with the Y for now.

Really great video. As a life long GM and Cadillac customer, it looks like I will be able to get my Cadillac EV in the future. I just hope GM figures out how to ramp up production and make these EVs at a profit. Right now, that looks really bleak. And yes, no FSD will be a deal breaker. A geofenced Supercruise is not going to work for me, especially if they want $25 per month. I want to buy it outright, no monthly fees.
@pilozm Жыл бұрын
All true. Also, a Cadillac in this class segment should have a HUD available.
@torchlord11 Жыл бұрын
I'd have to agree with you it looks like with version 12 of FSD that it might be really close, but even if it isn't you can use it most of the time without too many issues. To me having lots of extra buttons isn't as important as having the safety that FSD will likely bring to the car driving experience. You can see how bad it is for GM when they just got their license to autonomous drive in San Francisco revoked. They are on the wrong path with self-driving with all those Lidars.

I have a 2023 Lyriq 600e4 (AWD). I compare it to cars I’ve owned (Porsches, Audi’s, Continentals) or rented (Tesla’s). I call it my “so,so” car. SO quiet, SO smooth, SO powerful, SO smart, and SO relaxing (with SuperCruise). It’s the best car I’ve owned and the most fun to drive!

I'll say one thing, Cadillac definitely brings the luxury feeling on the interior compared to Tesla vehicles. I was going to ditch my Model Y when my Lyriq was ready but the inflated price was NUTS and small things annoy me about the vehicle 1. The looonnngg hood with no frunk and 2. Lack of 3rd row. I'll wait for Gen 2 that utilizes the Tesla charging port and has a little more refinement.

Most people who buy Lyriqs will not need a frunk for their little kids' junk. Caddy styling and luxury blows away the frumpy and dour Y. Caddy has a shade for the glass roof (duh!) that Tesla lacks, and regen paddles, and real buttons and switches, and a speedometer and more right in front of the driver. Supercruise works better than FSD, and Caddy is supremely smooth and quiet whilst driving and does not rattle and shake like the poorly assembled Y. NO CONTEST.

The market has many great EVs (Taycan, Rivian as examples) - all are hobbled by the same issue: a terrible CCS charging infrastructure. Electrify America is holding back so many companies right now. The switch to NACS cannot come fast enough. Meanwhile, just get a Tesla.
