The tutorial series still works as of this comment, in case anybody is wondering. I just finished them. Amazing work, hats off. Easily the best tutorial out here for an inventory with tons of possibilities.

This man showed us how to set up inventory database and pickup interactions with line trace in 22 minutes and 6 seconds where most other tutorials would have taken an hour! Fantastic!

oke oke oke wild!! i think this looks like one off the best inventory systems on youtube. im a mechanic bud damm after the last off uss i realy want a gta look a like with zombies:P first started with zombies. now the zombies run perfect and roam arround and stuff. im installing now the city car sample and a surviral props from fab. it also has a backpack and a big bag so by the looks off it i will have the props to follow your toturial. medikit and pills hahah. so after the cars are running i go try to coppie your project in my project!!!!!!!!! i realy dont know how t set this up so thanks for this!!! do it work the same on first person template?? thats where im in now. third person makes player look over buildings and over walls, i dont like that. also i use 5.0 or 5.5 my main project is still in 5.0. the planning is now 1cars 2this invetory 3mission trigger:P best regards. cars will be hard bud i will get back i hope! (its like 8 videos haha bud inc damage)

its cool. Many people start with difficult things, but your is simple and use tags. I love people use tags.

hi Mrbro when I press E,the pickup master doesn't disappear as you display,then I check the thirdpersonBlueprint, when it operate to the second 'branch',it can't go on to 'cast to pickup_master',Why? plz help,thanks

For testing. On keyboard E pressed, change "Draw debug type" to "For Duration". This will displayer the linetrace in game. And make sure you actually hit the pickup with it. If the line goes true the pickup and does not display impact point (square), than you might have ignored the visibility channel on your pickups collision. If it returns false from the branch, it means you haven't hit anything. So maybe your line trace in too short or something. So setting Draw Debug Type could help you see the problem.

hi Mrbro when I press E, the master pickup does not disappear when you display it, I already had the "Draw debug type" to "For Duration and the red line is reaching the pickupMaster and showing a red box, but it does not disappear, help me I'm lost :(

Love you bro! Just I want to tell you to find a video on activating windows. My personal recommendation is to get a key from ebay from a highly rated reseller. I got mine for 4$, but that's besides the point. I love you videos man! Thank you for all the education provided here.

You have missed a step. Everything should work just like in the video. If you want, you can join the discord and send in screenshots in the help section. Make sure to screenshot everything you've created during this video, so we have as much as possible so it's easier and faster to find the issue.

why does pickup master always fail to save edit: nvm for some reason it didnt like when i put a _ so i made it just PickupMaster and it worked

Thanks for tutorials! And i have an BP runtime error when click on any non interactable objects: "Access none trying to read property CallFunc_BreakHitResult_HitActor" from Branch Node from character BP (timing on this video 8:51). Help me please.

Try running isValid on HitActor after line trace.

@@ItsMeBro Thanks for the answer! I did it. When a character stands close to the interactable object, then sometimes it does not take it (A mishit? because they are a little bit smalls? I can't understand), and it plays the condition Is Not Valid. :\

@@SunSilver0101 Enable debug for the line trace. That will show you what it hits and where it goes. For more help consider joining my discord and posting some screenshots about the issue. (blueprints, gameplay with debugs on and such)

Heya, I don't know if you can help me, but I have no static mesh after compiling my blueprint in 'Pickup_Master.' I don't know if this links to the issue, but I should note my static mesh component has in brackets '(StaticMeshComponent)' instead of '(Inherited)' Thanks

Probably the items in database don't have a mesh.

You have to choose another item first and then go back and choose empty to see the static mesh set for empty. A bug.

I did this on Unreal Engine 5. It seem when you get to 7:17 of your video. It not letting me Multiply. Kind of odd. Not sure what going on. Other then that everything works. It could be because it from another engine. Overall i do thank you for the videos.

Ue4 has separate multiply nodes for each type, while ue5 has one for all that can be converted to any type.

my ocd is triggering on the s_inventory name rather than s_inventoryitem .. the structure is for items - which will go into the inventory, in slots.. with s_slots.. yea? was looking over the spaghettis trying to see if I understood what is going on and blabla long novel bai

Do you know of a way to increase the size of each items hitbox? My interaction is working fine and items disappear but i have to be lined up just right on certain items

I kind of found a solution, i just placed a static mesh of a sphere on the pickup master item and made it hidden. problem solved

@@gabehenry9404 use collision box component just like you used the sphere. Also you can replace linetrace with a sphere trace.

Because you are ignoring/overlaping all collisions. If you simulate physics, make sure you block world channels.

hey iff you try this in unreal 5 it works bud it wont pick up. i got the multiply when pressed * not the option vector int. first i got the error from lower down the comments i put in a ´is valid´ on hit actor and put it before Branch. now the error is gone bud still not picking the item? i saw a other video the guy uses a sphere collision do i need to add this? im basicly following youtube toturials like a monkey hahahah. is this doable in unreal 5? i saw a comment that someone got the same thing and got it running bud never reply on the guy asking how. its been 4 years you may have tryed it in unreal 5 by now:P got stuck in the yourverse toturial aswel. the animation of opening the door and getting in needs a camera boom in the code he give. bud first person dont give one:P haha it drives tho and when the pc is cold it handels the crash and deforms. so i think i give this a shot bud got stuck realy fast:P iff i make it in unreal 4 and migrate it would that work? best regards

I certainly do not understand why you are using line trace to pick up objects - that seems unnecessary, not to mention odd.

Unnecessary??? You need some kind of mechanic to pickup items. They will not pickup themselves... Regardless of mechanic, you still need to detect the items and line trace works good enough and fast enough.

@@ItsMeBro Of course, I understand that. I obviously had trouble because my camera only faces one way. It doesn't rotate with the player as it should be. After a thought, if it is a true 3rd/1st person then line trace from camera would work efficiently. In my case, I've had to resort to overlap with a CanPickup boolean. I didn't mean any disrespect and I think I could have worded it a lot better. Thank you for the tutorials though, apart from that part, it's been really helpful.

@@djgentertainment3675 If you don't have a free movement camera, then yes, traces might not work. I personally prefer traces because that's the cheapest method. And it's great to hear that you where able to adjust based on your game. Keep it up. There will be another trace down the road, to return item names and such, but if you managed to change this into an overlap, you should have no issues to use the same overlap for that mechanic also.

@@ItsMeBro You are right, line traces are a lot cheaper than overlap/collision etc. I'm still trying to get used to Unreal as I've switched over from Unity. All is working perfectly now so far :)

Why overload the character class? All logic should be separate and know nothing about each other. The character must trigger events, everything is in Unreal by default.
