You were lucky to have an instructor. I learned to crochet 47 years ago using hand drawn black and white pictures and written instructions. It took a bit of figuring to understand what was meant to form a chain into a loop when making a doily. The good news is I learned how to read patterns. Back then there was no videos. I have enjoyed watching your videos on this pooling technique. Fascinating.

I appreciate Mrs. Kennedy for passing on her skills. I feel like a part of her lives on because of it. I read patterns as well and would like to get better at reading charts. You are so smart to be able to learn on your own. Great job! 😁💜

I bought red heart’s comfort yarn in the color mirage and using a size 6mm (US K) and manage to get two stitches of each color. While I struggled with making it work, the more I work, I’m seeing a pattern forming. I’m wondering if working such short color pools does in fact work, or should I frog the whole thing and switch to a smaller hook size to get more stitches out of it?
@ItsTimeforYarn11 ай бұрын
Short sequences can work but they make a more houndstooth pattern most of the time. 💜😁

Reminds me of houndstooth. And what is that baby yarn colorpooling project just over your shoulder there? Got video of it?

Yes! I couldn’t think of the pattern name when I was filming. The baby yarn is a jumbo Caron called Baby Rainbow. I don’t have a video of it yet but it is in the works. 😁💜

Thanks to your video I have kept crocheting on the Bernat Baby Sport, Blossom yarn I picked up to play with. I can finally see the pattern to know I got it right. Color change is a bit difficult to see but I found I can see it better while working in natural sunlight. Once the pattern is worked you can see it well.

Simply amazing how easily you figure the poling out. How do you determine what stitch to use?
@ItsTimeforYarn Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The length of the color changes helps me determine which stitch to use. I have only worked with the Moss stitch and the Granny stitch. If you are interested, I have a color pooling basics video that explains in detail how I study the yarn before getting started. 💜😁 kzbin.info/aero/PLmNKKqcIMS0H2eCBnjkQFIB_Z18FafWJv

hi!! just getting into crocheting, and i love how approachable you make it! would you ever be willing to do a more in depth video on choosing yarns for color pooling/listing some yarns you already know or believe to be suitable for it? at some point in the long term i want to get into it but i want to make sure i know of some solid yarns to start with to make it easier on myself, lol! i’d love to hear your opinions/recommendations :)

When colour pooling with yarn that has short variegations of one or two stitches for each colour transition, that has a lot of colour changes before the yarn repeats and/or the colour transition is ‘muddy’ or indistinct …? I have a cheat that works well and makes life easier. 1: start with a long chain and then crochet a test row that is big enough for 3-5 full repeats of the yarn pattern across it. 2: Pick one spot on the yarn repeat ( like the long blue colour on this tutorial) as your starting point for counting. You will use this point throughout your project. 3: Count how many stitches in total happen from the beginning of your chosen colour spot to when it appears/repeats again. 4: The stitch count should be the same amount of stitches each time, (give or take one stitch allowing for tension adjustments) you may need to try a different size hook to see what makes the most consistent number of stitches between pattern repeats. 5:This is your magic number to work with for the whole pattern repeat. You can stitch away and just make sure that you have the same number of stitches overall between your chosen colour change each time it appears (instead of trying to count every colour) 6: you will only have to frog back a stitch or two each time to adjust tension. 7: As long as the diagonal is appearing correctly where your chosen colour turns up/repeats, the rest of the pattern will work itself out .
