I've never heard of this before 🤯 I used to crochet stuffies and always kinda figured those yarns were just meant to look like color chaos. I never thought you could build a coherent pattern from it. 10/10 looking blankets, my goodness

Color chaos is the perfect term! It's why I've crocheted only with solid color yarn, and occasionally two-color yarn, which isn't chaotic. Oh, one exception is a Christmas-y cotton yarn, white with specks of red and green, with which I made potholders to give as gifts, and they turned out nicely, no chaos there, either. 😃

😊Same, well almost. I once made a pooled slipper (by accident, I very soon learned). It was the first time I used a multi colored yarn, so I thought, ”cool, they’re being automatically color blocked”. 😂 The second slipper, of course, became a colour chaos. My mom got them for Christmas. I still remember my brother saying ”One is striped?” 😂This video put my mind at rest. Finally one of life’s mysteries solved.

I've been crocheting for years and I've heard about color pooling but have never been able to visualize actually doing it. This video helped SO very much! You are a great teacher! I'm not sure if I'm ready to try just yet because, like you, I'm desperate to reduce my stash. But I have bookmarked the videos in this series so that when I give myself permission to buy more yarn it will be pooling yarn.

This is so interesting! I never thought different yarn color schemes could make such beautiful patterns like these ♥️ so here’s what I gathered from the vid… Most likely works on 2 types of stitches-moss stitch and granny stitch It’s better to find a yarn skein that doesn’t have too much of a noticeable ombré Find your magic number, eg. loosen your tension and/or tighten it to reveal the pattern

This is amazing! And inspiring. You make this technique seem possible - though when I saw your finished work I initially thought, "No way!" My solution to using variegated yarn (the Ice Picasso yarns, for instance) has been to outline them with a solid color to create a "stained glass window pane" effect, setting off little areas of the different colors. That works for some projects, but I don't like the polka-dot effect it gives in others. When I finish my current complex afghan, I'll see if I can do this. Thanks - and brava!

You’re very welcome. I’m excited for you to give this a try. Once you get the hang of it, it is truly addicting! You will never look at variegated yarn the same way again. 😁💜

@@ItsTimeforYarn I believe you. I avoided working with variegated yarn until recently. Now I'm learning how to use it in ways that reduce the blotchy, scrambled effect it sometimes produces. It's challenging!

I've only been chaining up 1 at the ends and my sides remain straight. I only chain up 2 if I have to eat up color at the start of the next row. Doing that also allows me to keep my tension absolutely consistent as well.
