The "original" version where Charlie floated was full of revisions from the original story and was a commercial to some candy brand. The revisions made the author of the book so mad, he SAID that no one could adapt this book for as long as he lived. This version of the "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was made after the author's death and they did their best to follow everything from the book, like a tribute to him. well that and it was also not in the book. The book the purposes were served better. Veruca got just desserts from the fact her father became wealthy from the nut business which in turn was used to spoil her, so her losing to the squirrels in the nut room was everything going full circle. Charlie was a representation of the rare selfless kid who does good for the sake of doing good, he was a representation of purity against each kid representing one of the deadly sins. Augustus being gluttony, Violet pride, Veruca greed, and Mike wrath. The fizzy lifting drinks completely destroys that image, and was only ever mentioned in the book by Wonka as they passed by the room. Love this one so much more than the original: Some facts I wanted to share on this film: 1, The chocolate room was 90% practically with a faux chocolate river, 2, Deep Roy who was the tiny man with the racing snail in The Neverending Story and Napoleon Bonesapart in Corpse Bride played all of the Oompa Loompas and I don’t mean they shot him once and copied with a computer no no no no! He did it all and did dance and singing practice for everything and the design is actually accurate unlike the green hair and orange faces from the 70’s film ans like I said before all of the Oompa Loompa songs come from the book and actually change to different eras with a 50’s mambo, 60’s disco, 70’s hippy song, and an 80’s rock ballad, 3, the squirrels were real squirrels and were trained from birth to do that scene, 4, the design of the Bucket’s home was inspired by a shack Roald Dahl would use to work on books, 5, not really a fact, but the updates are actually good like giving a back story to wonka which was something new and not anything before which Dahl’s family approved of since he died in 1990 so they oversaw all adaptations of his work, -making Mike Teevee obsessed with video games and violent media is clever and the character that has the biggest update is Violet who actually has a character unlike in the previous film and even the book by making her this competition obsessed kid and an overbearing mother to boot, -actually giving a reason for Wonka going to Oompaloompa land as “looking for new exotic flavors for candy”, -another good update is with the tv room by having Wonka want to teleport chocolate through television for people to grab instead of just wanting to teleport because, 6, I only learned this recently, but the kid who plays Mike is the same boy who voiced the main character in Meet the Robinsons, 7, people complain saying Charlie is out of character and he isn’t like real kids, but that’s not true there is kids who think like him and care for their family and others often before their own needs also I love the fact 8, when Augustus says “Don’t you want to know our names?“ and Wonka replies “Can’t see how it would make a difference” it’s a double negative he’s toying with them and throughout the tour playing dumb even though he planned everything out, 9, something else I wanted to bring up is how people complain that Deep’s version isn’t like Gene Wilder’s and that’s the point he is like how he is in the book plus the fact he not only cut himself off from the world surrounding himself with chocolate obsessed little people and has pale skin from no sun exposure, no real sense of how to talk or deal with people (reading off cue cards and jumping back when hugged) also bring in his backstory it’s no wonder he would come out less like a James Bond villain (Wilder) and more like a nut who isolated himself from society, 10, the kid who played Augustus not only did not speak English, but didn’t know how to swim, For more details and information I didn’t even get into I recommend watching these two part videos of Everything Great About Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hojOZ6KBq6qCd5Y (Part 1), kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYunk5mfprdgock (Part 2), They are not by the same person who does CinemaWins, but still good,

This movie was so nostalgic to me when I was a kid and their is so a lot fun facts in this movie did example like making the chocolate room all practical, the squirrels were real and CGI in the nut room, Deep Roy did all of the Oompa Loompa’s by using a machine to copy him singing the songs, Jordan Fry who played Mike played in Meet The Robinsons, and the Inventing room was build with many junk which makes it cool. Wonka just acts like a child in this movie which is from his backstory. This was also my first Tim Burton movie as well which introduced me to.

Hidden hints make movies better. Like this: the name of Violet's mother is never said out loud, but it is written on the reward she points out (Scarlett). Also... the writings in the glass elevator are quite interesting, to put it delicately

I love the theory that he knew how each child would fail and definitely had some things rehearsed. The big clue is how Charlie actually ended up with the last ticket, he magically found a $10 bill in the snow, the candy man handing Charlie THAT last bar, and ultimately encouraging Charlie to not sell it and run home. I bet wonka was absolutely in complete control the entire time of all the moving pieces till Charlie’s family came into the picture. He was thrown off for once as he’d leave his behind initially.

The reason the Golden goose scene and the levitating soda scene don't exist in this movie is because they didn't exist in the original book. The squirrel seen was in the book and there was no rule breaking by Charlie and his grandfather. In fact most of the dialogue from this movie is taken directly out of the book and all of the songs. You should check out that book sometime.

Johnny said his portrayal was part Mr. Rogers type kids' TV personality, and part enthusiastic game show host. I like both versions, too. For accuracy with the book, though, This one is truer to the source material. Hats off to Danny Elfman for creating all the singing voices in the movie, too.

I really loved seeing this in theaters! There was a Chunky’s near my aunt (it closed down a few something years ago sadly) and we would always go there to watch a movie. One of the desserts was a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sundae. I ordered it once. To this day, I can’t get over how big it was! All I can remember is ice cream, a small slice of cake, whipped cream, and a cookie! Heaven only knows what else was on it!

This movie is more of just another adaptation of the book, not a remake of the old version, to my knowledge the scene where Charlie and grandpa George float isn’t in the book, which is why it’s not here. This movies much more faithful to the book, than the other one

I actually have so much nostalgia attached to this movie. I was 3 when it came out, and I just have so many memories of watching this as a little kid 😊❤. I was introduced to the Gene Wilder version in my middle school reading class, and actually had a literal debate with my teacher about why I liked this Tim Burton version more lol. I was a kid and literally probably didn't have any actual good points to back myself up, but it's a memory I will definitely cherish and of course will always have a major soft spot for this movie ❤❤. I'm glad you enjoyed this Cody, and that you watched a huge part of my childhood with such an open mind 🥰❤

This movie is superior to the 1971 movie in almost every single aspect, in book accuracy, not butchering the story and ruining characters, better cinematography and effects (expected for a movie made 30 years later, but still), keeping the Oompa Loompas original songs, and not almost sending the entire studio into bankruptcy. Although i did like Pure Imagination and Gene Wilder’s style.

Not so fun fact...Roald Dahl hated the first movie made back in the day. In fact, it's the reason why no more Chocolate Factory properties were made besides that one movie. They even kept him out of the making of the movie and instead went their own way. At that point, the grandaughter is the one who holds the rights to the names and his properties. When they announced making a new movie, she was hesistent to give the rights to clear it. But once she saw how Charlie's family's home was made with the wonky door and tilted style, she knew that Tim Burton was the right man and her grandfather would love his style. So basically...this version is considered the canon version of his books rather than the old one among Roald Dahl readers and the community.
