George Jones sang a song that has never been more relevant, "Whose Gonna Fill Their Shoes". Having listened to some of the music (I use the term loosely) that is being produced today, the answer is no one. But at least we have been left the legacy of Nancy's music and others like her.

Specially this song, Nanci version is beautiful, i am John would agree, if he was still with us... RIP the both of them, both sadly missed..

(google mis-translated the Irish blessing i quoted: "i ngcliabhán Dé" means, literally "in God's basket" and figuratively it means "God's cradle, i.e.baby Jesus' cradle" it is a heartfelt prayer, from the sender, asking God to keep Nanci close and lovingly cared-for: "may she spend eternity as close to God as a baby in its cradle is loved by its parents." I only learned Irish as a second language, in primary school; i was young enough to pick up the subtle meanings but am not bilingual. I am sure you will understand i did noy mean anything offensive, and i apologize if i used the wrong words to express a blessing that is really best-used by a native speaker. Nanci deserves the best ❤️ xx

Unfortunately I caught up a little late to Nanci's astonishing talent. She has a spirit about her which is heavy as molasses, pure as fallen rain and bright as a noonday sun. Her lyrics speak with a wisdom from the heart and a first hand love of words. She will be deeply missed and not replaced. I am sorry for us all at her passing.

First time I ever heard or saw Nanci Griffith I was on CQ duty (Army) at Fort Bragg, NC, back in the mid-80s. The ACQ had his TV and we were watching some wee hours music show. This pretty little long-haired gal sang "Once in a Very Blue Moon." I was hooked right then and there. Still a favorite song of mine. When just my dog and I drove out of Alaska, to Arkansas and eventually ending up at Fort Drum, NY, Nanci's music played on the truck's stereo for many, many miles of that long trip. Her music kept me company in a few failing relationships along the way as well. I wrote this poem listening to her music back in 1994. It's long, but I'll leave it as a tribute. Hot Chocolate and Nanci Griffith © 1994 by me. Acoustic guitar plays and her voice sings to my heart. Fall is cold and I like it much. I love the lonesome in her voice. And Nanci sings it too, pouring from the headphones, connected to my heart and soul. Hot chocolate sits in the cup by my hand. Soft brown, it is warm and I like it much. I love the sweetness in the warmth. And the warmth is good, dancing over my tongue, warming my heart and soul. And me, I sit in a house, not alone. Surrounding me, the songs sing and I like it much. I love the lonely and how it takes me away. And my heart cries its tears, wishing for distant roads and rainy nights. Will the courage ever come. The courage to be true, honestly true to myself? Sing a little longer. Keep the chocolate warm a little longer. Maybe, maybe I can be just a little stronger.

Very sad to hear of Nanci's passing, my childhood home was full of her music. My parents went to see her in concert a few times here in Belfast - she was one of the few big international artists who still came here during "The Troubles" and her fans here loved her for that, and her wonderful music too obviously. My Father passed away last year, Nanci and John Prine were 2 of his favourite artists, I hope they're puting on a private gig for him somewhere. R.I.P Nanci

I was fortunate enough to see Nanci in concert twice, and those evenings were more magical than I can say. I will miss her forever. There were days and nights when she was truly all that saved me. I wore her "Flyer" album out twice and gifted it to friends over and over. I own all her music, and I can't recommend another songbird more highly. God love her. Thank you, Nanci. Thank you especially for "Late Night Grand Hotel." Thank you for making me laugh, and thank you for making me cry. Thank you for being there when no one else could even begin to understand. There's a light beyond these woods. I know that you will go there and see what you can find.❤

Beautiful ❤️ poetic words xx i think Nanci will smile for all her friends who mourn her, she has inspired others to poetry, and taught us all we can "bring out of what is in us" when we are heartbroken 💔 when we feel nobody NOBODY could possibly understand.. We can listen to Nanci. Be it her own composition or that of another, she puts herself into it ❤️ and suddenly our tears are jewels... we are thinking of you, Nanci xx more than a beautiful songbird, more than a broken heart xx Nanci the ways of God are far beyond our understanding xx but He has a place for you, Nanci, just as He had a place for you on Earth. You remain a friend to so many of us, Rest in Peace dear Nanci xx mol xx

So sorry to hear this news. Saw her in concert twice in Dublin and loved it . Gone way too early Nanci . Heaven got another music icon and the earth is poorer for it . Rest in peace .🍀🇮🇪
