What is the Urdd Eisteddfod?

Something very special is happening in Dinbych this week. We are hosting the 2022 centenary Urdd Eisteddfod. For those of you who don't know what an Eisteddfod is, It is a Welsh cultural festival that covers everything from Poetry and Drama to Music and Dance. If you have never been to an Eisteddfod, take this opportunity to join me on this video tour. We have three Eisteddfodau in Wales. An international Eisteddfod (Always held in Llangollen) which is open to competitors World-Wide, and a National Eisteddfod and the Urdd Eisteddfod which is exclusively for young competitors, and both of which are conducted exclusively in the Welsh language.

Excellent coverage of the Urdd Eisteddfod, Will 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 thanks! I was born on Anglesey but my parents left for England when I was still an infant… I regret never being given the opportunity to learn the language of my birth. I have recently returned to my true homeland and am learning to speak Welsh properly… not easy as an adult but I’m determined. It is a dream of mine to write a piece of poetry in Welsh, about my experience, and perform it at the National Eisteddfod 2023! ♥️

Huw, enjoyed the ‘video’ as usual. Could I ask a related question…back in February 2013 you stated you intended to learn Welsh the way a child learns. Eventually you hoped to be able to have chats/talk with fluent Welsh speakers. 9 years on, do you think your system worked? To my ears it has worked! I am interested, as I have started watching your ‘learn Welsh’ videos.
