This is the last ever roto/clock to The Technology Programme. All credit to James Hudson. Again came across it by "accident".

Gosh... It's incredible how music evokes such powerful memories and feelings. When I was a little child, I can remember spending the day at my grandmother's house when unwell, and hearing this music. Hearing it again now brings back memories of her, the sofa, wall paper, the sound of her voice and smell of her home. She's been dead for over 20 years and her house no longer stands but hearing this again awakens some deep rooted memories of a time I'll never see again but shall always cherish. It's sad that some things are no more but lovely to remember it all. Thanks for posting this.

We did an experiment in science class where we all had to close our eyes and guess a minute. Everyone else did it by counting and most were about five seconds out. I got to within a second by playing this tune on my head.

The Just A Minute theme was such an infectious tune. Brought a tear to my eye hearing it again. Memories of happy primary school days in the 1980s. The girls devised a dance routine to it! Hideously cringeworthy but good fun.

I remember getting excited when the twirling ITVs disbanded and the round ‘clock’ symbol came on. The music was more upbeat, and as the segments counted down you knew your programme was about to start.

Stunning. 42 now but still clear as day, all being piled into a small room, giant tv on a stand wheeled out, teacher getting a colleague to help get it working, sat on the floor being as good as we can be while the main tune plays….then everyone up dancing and “do dooing” the countdown tune. Congratulations on us all. We’re still here brothers and sisters.

I had no idea this was used up to as late as 1993. I remember seeing this a lot when I was at primary school so it was definately around before 1988. Groundbreaking bit of CGI for that time!

I started school in autumn 1992 when this was still being used. I remember we used to watch a programme called Time For Maths and when this came on beforehand everyone used to clap along to the music

I loved listening to this tune when I was repairing TVs and VCRs in the 80s. Of course the programmes were just as good. There was also good music with the test cards. Unfortunately the good times don't last for ever.

Loving this!!!!!!! The last song is called Just a Minute and was written by The Shadows Drummer Brian Bennet under the alias name James Aldenham. Reminds me of school in south Wales, everyone would be sitting down, then you'd get the clowns in the class who'd jump up and start dancing to it!

I love these intro tunes to the UK school's TV programmes. The first one we hear is the later new theme from the 80s and it's fantastic but the second one we hear is from the 70s and that brings on the nostalgia for myself. I remember watching the seconds disappear on the clock on the screen in tandem with the music as the class sat in the general purpose room in anticipation of our favourite programme Look And Read and The Boy From Space. Great memories.

Classic! I remember these. I was a child in the late 80s and early 90s so remember growing up with these. The 60 second countdown was SO memorable. I remember watching an old VHS in a Science lesson at school in 2001. That played, and the teacher wasnt paying attention so someone snuck up to the front and rewound the tape so we could watch it again!

Channel 4 didn't have time to play The Journey tune in full as Business Daily would have started at 12 noon , So they had to sorten it to fit in between the last ITV Schools programme on 4 to the start of Channel 4 Business Daily at 12 noon.

blimey, this takes me back to my very early school days - like Proust but without the soggy biscuit listening back to it, with much more experience as a musician, I now realise that each bar is exactly 2.5 seconds long, and the piece comprises six four-bar segments lasting ten seconds each, which makes it sync up to the visuals and is dead clever also, the guy who wrote the piece (Brian Bennett, a.k.a. James Aldenham) was once the drummer in the Shadows with Cliff Richard

@Concise... Gotta admit I'd love it if C4 showed this again sometime randomly out of the blue - even 2 or 3 times just to get the public curiosity going. These days there are tons of kids that are like wild animals. Hell, my generation wasn't perfect but we grew up on this stuff and we've not turned out nearly as bad as the current generation of youngsters!

I can’t forget two amazing fits of United class joy in the tv room, one programme after this was mainly about bubbles and Japanese people farting! And we caught a bit of Sesame Street once where someone counting sheep was shown as multiple puppets being violently chucked over a gate. Great days.

Why did they stop using it? It wasn't because they stopped using countdowns to the schools programmes. It was replaced with a boring still of the upcoming programme and numbers in the corner counting down.
