Not only is LSSC the last bastion in late night TV where you can still witness musical performances of such calibre, but it's also the only show with a musical director and band members so talented and versatile that they're up for literally any task. Much respect.

This was beautiful, and it's a great band. Still, nobody should ever underestimate The Roots.
@johnredberg6 жыл бұрын
@@eastvandb Thanks for your reply :-) The Roots are indeed an awesome "predominantly hip-hop oriented" band/group. There's no counterpart to Tariq, and if there were, he'd still be miles above them. Quest is a legendary drummer way beyond his work with The Roots. But when it comes to top-level playing across a wide range of musical genres, JB and Stay Human are the champions of late night. In my opinion ;-)
@eastvandb6 жыл бұрын
Yes, they're 'predominantly hip-hop oriented' in the way that this band is 'predominantly jazz oriented'. But I'm not claiming it's a contest. Both are incredibly versatile, and both can do things the other can't. That's the great thing about music. And I'm sure you're technically correct about whose technique is better. I used to fetishise technique, and it's beautiful to behold, but that's not all there is to great music.

In my opinion Itzhak Perlman is the greatest violinist of this and the last Century. Surpassing even Yehudi Menuhin in subtle, passionate, emotive style and impeccable technical skill. His interpretation of the score for the film, 'Schindler's List' still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear him play. Also deeply impressive was Jon Batiste's performance who, without sheet music, played the difficult role of supporting but not overpowering the gentle nuances of Perlman's phrasing. Thank you to Stephen and his producers for showcasing a level of quality music that is sadly lacking on television anywhere, let alone America. Cheers, BH

Time for a new segment Stephen. I'm calling it the Honor Roll. This segment is where just like virtuoso Perhlman here, you invite back seniors who have performed on that stage long ago. Here's why. Not only to honor and respect those performers of previous years but to showcase Why they were stand out artists of their day. Also to engender a growing respect for our elders which is an aspect that is lacking in north American culture. If 'we are one' is supposed to be a thing, then its as valid as the opening statement of your constitution and should be honored as such on television. Kinda like say putting Rememberance Day ahead of Christmas in retail. Places, events and people are only as important as we recognize them to be. Be it once a week or once a month, have a senior maestro of some repute attached to the Ed Sullivan theater and have them remind us of what was cool or awesome. Me, I'm a rocker, virtuoso's to me are like Eddie Van Halen, voices like Bruce Dickinson or Steve Perry. But Itzhak here...on violin bub...WOW. He SHREDS on the violin!! The guys I mentioned are legendary, but so is Itzhak!! He's a MASTER and that level of talent...and here's where the recognition of dignity and respect comes in...is seeing that their Talent is what makes them Equals in my eyes Today. The Honor Roll Do it Stephen...or it's a Shire worthy beat down at a game of Silly Walks.
