That was worth watching twice.. I completely agree with you on live performances and that was the definitive version of the Who performing that song in my opinion. Their 'Live At Leeds' concert is still arguably considered the best rock performance of all time. There's even a plaque at the venue to memorialize it. And when Pete Townshend windmilled his fingers would BLEED. Great reaction!

The drummer is Keith Moon, and he's normally rated in the top 3 R&R drummers of all time. And it's rumored the "Animal" from the Muppets was based on him, and having seen both more often than not, I tend to believe it. LOL

Yes, yes, yes,The Who, most original rockband ever. Saw them in Amsterdam 1972, i have a little tinitus ever since 😜😜 They were verry loud back then. Pete is my nr 1 guitarist, never playing the same thing twice 👍 John Entwistle is the best bass player i've ever heard. Thanks girl, this was a joy. Hello from the Netherlands 👍👊🔥😉

Yes, that's The Who! They are incredible, but back then they were crazy, they were hard, they were heavy, they were intense! Just think, this was years before hard rock, punk or heavy metal! They are great live in concert, but even they themselves have even said they were better in concert than on record (and I think their records are great)! Love you! You're beautiful! Love your reactions!

Best version is from the live album "Live At Leeds" which is considered the best live album of all times. This version is from "Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970". Been to 15 of their liveshows no one could touch them during the Keith Moon (R.I.P. Mooney) years.

Fillmore 1968. Fillmore West 1969. Berkeley Community Theater, 1970 San Francisco Civic Auditorium, 1971 Cow Palace, San Francisco, 1973, where Keith Moon passed out and Lynyrd Skynyrd opened. Winterland, 1976, both shows. Oakland Coliseum, 1989. After Keith died, I only saw one Who show. I never saw the post-Ox who and I intended the lower case. THe abomination that tours as "The Who," makes me want Townshend to die. Hey, he got old.

Filmed at the concert on the Isle of Wight (a tiny island off the south coast of England) in a field at 2am with everyone totally stoned out of their heads (including me :) ), The Who were one of the best live bands ever, and certainly one of the loudest! There are lots of excepts from The Who at this concert, plus their Woodstock performance, all are great. Sadly two of the band have since died but the singer Roger Daltry and lead guitar Pete Townsend are still playing.

The Who are the greatest live band of all time. Period. In my humble opinion of course, but at their best they can't be touched. The sheer size of the sound they were able to achieve with only 3 musicians and a vocalist is thing to behold. If you want to react to more live Who at their peak, maybe try "See Me, Feel Me" (from Woodstock), "Sparks" (Woodstock), "Water" (Isle Of White), "Happy Jack" (London Colosseum) and "A Quick One While He's Away" are great places to start.

The Greatest Rock band of all time. Funny you mentioned Lynyrd Skynyrd, their big break cme opening for The Who on their Quadrophenia tour in Fall 1973. Bands opening for The Who notoriously saw tons of booing, no matter how big they later got, or how big they were at the time. Lynyrd Skynyrd was the first band to not get booed off the stage opening for The Who, and, they were in fact so good that Who guitarist Pete Townshend stopped a backstage conversation mid-sentence to remark on what he was hearing from Skynyrd, "They're really quite good aren't they?"

interesting you mentioned the footwork of Pete Townsend. When I attended Who concerts, his footwork was one of the things that amazed me. His guitar playing was second to how the music moved him, and seemed like breathing to him. His body was in sync with everything.

Fury, absolute raging fury. Most bands want to seduce you, but The Who pummel you into submission. This is the band Abbie Hoffman thought he could interrupt midway through their Woodstock set and chose Pete Townshend’s mic to do it on….a really dumb move, as I’m sure he realised when Townshend clobbered him with that Gibson SG…..

I got to see The Who live in 1975. The whole concert was like that. There wasn’t an encore because the left the audience as exhausted as the were. Drummer Keith Moon never kept a normal drum beat. If such a thing was possible he played lead drums. I’ve been to dozens and dozens of concerts starting in the late 60s and there was never a live band that matched their performance. Regrettably, I never saw the one band that probably could have equaled a Who performance…Jethro Tull

I saw them from '68-'89. They weren't the same without Keith and I quit going. When I watch videos of the Who, I ONLY watch them with Keith Moon. They should have stopped after Keith died and even Townshend has agreed (at last).

Just for you, a quick Who primer. Drums-Keith Moon, Guitar-Pete Townsend, Lead Vocals-Roger Daltry and in the skeleton suit, on Bass-John Entwistle, aka The Ox. The Who in 1970 were a band hitting top form, which would continue until the album Who Are You. After that, Moon died, and they continued, but it wasn't the same. Keith Moon was THE driving force of The Who while he was alive, after he passed, they were just another rock and roll band. I saw them live live, twice. I know. Really, really good, just not great. As some others have indicated, A Quick One (While He's Away), from The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is something everyone should see. That performance, and their own sloppiness, caused The Rolling Stones to not release the film for many years. Jealousy, ya know. Just watch Keith the whole time and you will be "entertained". Enjoy.

A great introduction into Pete Townsends trademark windmill arm, but a reasonably controlled performance by The Who’s usual standards. Normally....... the audience know when the end is coming when Pete starts smashing his guitar. The song ends when Keith destroys his drum kit . lol Then they go back to the hotel and Keith destroys his hotel room and a few others if possible. lol

He makes a bigger deal about it than what it really is. You never see him having a hard time hearing in interviews etc. Entwistle became very deaf and had to have people repeat themselves etc. John didn't talk about it nearly as much. Both did say headphone use while recording had a lot to do with it, especially the tinnitus.
