Usually I like ITZY's songs the first time I listen to them, which I understand is a relatively unusual position to take. I just love their charisma and relentless energy they bring into their music (I also don't blame Kevin for being a fan of Ryujin for that very reason, she's my bias as well). But surprisingly, this song took a few listens for me to warm up to it. I think the part that I had the most trouble adjusting to was the transition between the melodic and rap parts of the verses, which felt a little messy in its composition. It just crashes in my ears and damn near scared me to death the first time I heard it. My favorite part is definitely the pre-chorus, which shouldn't be too surprising since ITZY is known for having great pre-choruses. It's a softer sound, but a great contrast to the all-sass, no-nonsense chorus. Lia and Yuna do a great job with the first parts of the pre-chorus, their voices really suit that moment. I also was used to hearing an extended instrumental break after the second chorus (like in Icy or Wannabe), and I feel like it gives ITZY's songs an extra unique element that we seldom see from other groups. That being said, the song has enough energy and sass for me to get on board. Also, the camera work on the MV was a 10/10. Otherwise, it's a great song, but I think that out the rest of the songs on their album, Don't Give a What is by far my favorite track. The chromatic descents on the melody in the post-chorus give me life. And honestly it feels like it could have been the title track instead of Not Shy. Looking forward to hearing your insights on the album as a whole, I really enjoyed it.

For me all the other itzy title tracks didn't catch me on the first listen, I didn't disliked them but it took a while for me, the more I listened i got obsessed with them. But with Not shy idk what it has that it got me from the beginning, it's so catchy, I can see why some people expected something different but I love it, and the b-sides have been the best so far too imo

Omg same thoughtttsss i knew Itzy since Dalla Dalla but I didnt become a midzy until wannabe era because personally i didnt like Dalla Dalla and Icy back then. Even wannabe, i became a fan not because of the song but because of ryujin's charisma. So i listened to their songs again and found that dalla dalla and icy were actually catchy songs but werent really my musical preference. Not shy is definitely my fave. Tbh all songs in Not shy album are just really really really my jam

Whenever Itzy releases a new song I come prepared with an open mind. As soon as I heard the intro of Not Shy I immediately knew I was going to be hooked. My favorite parts of Not Shy is definitely the Pre-Chorus and Bridge because it gives us a nice contrast to their chorus. My Bias is Lia and she definitely stands out when she sings both Pre-Choruses, I loved Yeji’s and Ryujin’s rap parts, Yuna’s part in the Pre-Chorus, and Chaeryeong’s ITZY is very catchy and her dancing is on point! I know everyone is going to have different opinions on Not Shy, I loved it by the first listen and will continue to support ITZY and can’t wait to see what their next comeback has in store for us! I love how ITZY always has a positive message in their songs my favorite has to be in Not Shy “Let’s just be who we are do what we do.”

The first time I listened to "Not Shy" I was very surprised and curious about the sound and musically intertwined with their rap. It is somewhat similar to their previous work bit also VERY different. and I agree with Kevin the flat tone is a bit interesting and surprising. Their prechorus arrangement is very good as well. Also i just like it when Kevin gives us his honest reaction but also explains and gives examples musically when he shares his thoughts 😂

I took me a few listens to like the song, but now I love it. My favourite parts are definitely the the pre-chorus sang by Yuna and then Lia and I love the "ITZYYYYYY" it's so catchy. I've noticed that their first two tracks are more synth focused/heavy sound while wannabe and not shy are actually different from the two, such as the instrumentals standing out more than the first two, just like how the sax sound in not shy is very distinctive and the drums/percussion in wannabe stood out to me as well (you can hear it in the chorus). So maybe, they're trying something new with their songs to try to include more catchy, distinguished instrument(s)? I think it's cool, but I do agree not shy might have been missing some instrumentals to make it more impactful...

while i agree it felt a bit “empty” because there isn’t that signature itzy “wall of sound”, i think this was a nice break from the oversensory sounds we usually hear and it creates a contrasting, lighter song than what we’re used to from itzy. of course i love their walls of sound (call it noise music if you will) because i actually really like very layered and textured tracks, but i think this was a nice “breather” for people who don’t really enjoy the hard hitting songs of itzy. i think it garnered more fans and maybe this will make their next comeback a bit more hard hitting depending on which musical direction they take.

My thoughts are the same as both of you guys in regards to Not Shy’s texture vs. Dalla Dalla and Icy’s texture. One of the biggest things why Itzy has stood out to me is that they have taken the “wall of sound” technique set up by previous gens (thank you almost everyone from SM in general, f(x) specifically) and made it their own with both Dalla Dalla and Icy. Musically complex and full-sounding? Itzy has it down. But Not Shy overall felt seriously empty throughout, similar to Blackpink’s How You Like That and Twice’s More and More. I just was not impressed with the song and got bored with the final chorus. Even Wannabe felt fuller and more satisfying to listen to, even if it was not as musically complex. I’m not saying that all songs have to have a “wall of sound” to sound interesting and engaging (f(x)‘s 4 Walls and Blackpink’s Whistle), but if the instrumental is going to be sparse, fill the sound space with something else so it isn’t empty sounding. Title track ranking for me: 1. Dalla Dalla 2. Icy 3. Wannabe 4. Not Shy Dalla Dalla and Icy are interchangeable.

I've always loved Itzy's title tracks on the first listen (shocking I know) but Not Shy took me at least 5 times to like it. And even now, weeks later, it's still meh for me. I wished they would go back to the sound they had with Dalla Dalla & ICY or go straight up badass/hip hop... maybe something like nct's kick it

I like the song, but personally, it's not as new or interesting as Icy or Dalla Dalla was. I still like it better than wannabe and I've listened to it a decent amount. The album was a bit disappointing compared to their earlier ones, too. That said, Itzy's image is slowly being built with these albums/ songs and they certainly have a very distinct concept and sound in the current scene.

Why is Umu hearing sax in everything "lately"? Haha. I doubt any of the clips are from a "real sax". That's from my very limited audio tech experience back in the 70's.
