The common fault that artists make when covering the song is they go higher than the original, which is not the main point of the song. It should maintain the key and the EMOTIONS. Vocal techniques have no place for this song even though IU showcased his unique vocals. Nonetheless, this is still considered as one of the masterpieces of KPOP in general. That's how powerful this song is.
