I hope you take a deep dive into IU. I discovered her through her acting as well, although through a difference Kdrama, My Mister which is her best acting performance ( I haven't seen the movie Broker, for which she was nominated as Best Actress at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival). There is something much to discover about her. I am sure you know that she debuted in 2008 t the age of 15. But do you know that she started auditioning at age 13 and was rejected 20, count them 20 times, before she was signed by a small company and debuted 10 months later. Did you know that she grew up poor after a loan her parents had co-signed was defaulted upon and the family lost everything. IU and her younger brother were sent to live with their grandmother, who lived in a 1 room flat (similar to the one she lives in My Mister) that became so badly infested with roaches they entire complex was torn down. They then moved in with other relatives where she was often scolded for trying to become a singer and suffered abused from her uncle and cousin being told repeated that she would never become a singer. She was also scammed by a person posing as a President of an entertainment company, before she signed with the small company, and lost her grandmother's life savings. Through all of this she remained positive and never hated any of those who took advantage her and abused her. A aspect of her that remains to this day. Did you know that she has had more #1 hits, more All Kills and more Perfect All Kills than any other group or soloist in Korean history by a factor of 3. Her songs have been on the charts in Korea twice as long as the next closest person or group. Did you know that she be came the first Kpop singer to perform on a 360 degree stage at her 2019 Love Poem concert in Seoul. That she became the 1st Female to headline a concert at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul in Sept of 2022 with her Golden Hour Concert. Did you know that she is current suffering from an issue with her left ear where the tube that connects the ear to the throat doesn't close, often remind open which can be painful and makes it at times impossible to use her In- Ear piece for her left ear. This started to become an issue sometime after her 2019 concert and continues today. You will often see her performing with the left ear piece hanging down. The fact that she can still sing as great as she does with this issue just goes to demonstrate how greatca singer she is. Did you know that she had seriously considered retiring from singing, making the Golden Hour Concert her last? The reasons being among others the issue with her hearing, and that she never even had dreamed of performing on a stage as big as the Holden Hour stage, considering that performance as her crowning achievement, and as she admitted to her Golden Hour audience, that she had been suffering from burn out. But her fans excitement leading up to that concert had re-energized her. This all lead to her decision to not only keep performing for her fans but to blaze new trails. Her most current Mini album. The Winning, Includes 2 songs that tell the story of her making that decision. No Kpop singer who is a pure soloist (meaning has never been part of a group) has ever turned the US and Europe. In December of 2023 she announced her first World Tour that included 2 cities in Europe and 6 in the US. She has stated that the pressure of that tour caused her many sleepless nights. When tickets went on sale for the US concerts, they sold out all 6 arena just as quickly as her Korean and Southeast Asia tours sell out, in under 15 minutes all of the approximate 90,000 tickets were gone. I attended the Atlanta concert myself. Did you know that she is known for the lenght of her encores? Not sure when this started, but I first became aware of it when I watched a behind the scenes KZbin video of her 10th Anniversary Concert in Seoul. After the concert had ended they were showing a video made by her staff telling their stories of working for IU. IU had come back up but off stage to watch the video. She was amazed that the fans were all still their watching the video. After it ended she went out on stage to again thank her fans and then said she woukd sing a few more songs. Over two hours later she finally wrapped things up. This was do different and do amazing I couldn't believe it. It has since become a thing in concert culture. It is referred to as her en-encore. And the other unique aspect of her en-encore is that she performs it in her street clothes. And I will end this comment with bit of information. In January of 2023 Rolling Stone Magazine issued an update to their Greatest Singers of All Time. IU became the 1st Korean to make the list. I hope you continue your IU journey. I wouldn’t compare solo artists with groups Personally though, before I stared following kpop I had heard of blackpink before I heard of iu, although I might’ve heard a couple of her songs without knowing it was her. It was also iu (and taeyeon) that got me into kpop so they’ll always be in my top 3 solo artists

Since you’re already checking out girl’s generation, I recommend taeyeon’s solo works, including her killing voice. Personally I’m much more familiar with her solo work than with SNSD as her (and iu) are who got me into kpop. She just about edges iu as my favorite solo idol
