I am a great Mikos Rozsa fan and his score for "Ivanhoe" is one of his very best. I didn't see the film on its first release in 1952, but on its reissue in 1960 when I was a 13 years old boy at the now long gone Alhambra cinema in Stoke on Trent and I was very impressed. Every time I hear this score, it takes me right back to those days when my life and the world were so different to what they are today. I bought the CD seen above some years ago and it remains an important part of my collection. David Rayner (now aged 70).

+darrenburnfan Sir, I was too young in '52 ---6 y/o--to recall or appreciate this film. My 1st exposure to Dr. Rozsa was " Ben-Hur", & I was mesmerized. I saw " Ivanhoe " later on TV, & sadly, it seemed dated & stilted; the music though, was beautiful. As with a failed effort as Bronston's disastrous " King Of Kings", the film was embarrassingly bad. The music though, was inspiring & gorgeous. The same is to be said for " El Cid". Though Heston was miscast, the film was well done, & the score was beautiful. What a master of this art form Rozsa was ! --Wolfsky9
@pikenova485 жыл бұрын
@@Wolfsky9 Sorry, totally disagree with you on Heston being miscast in "El Cid". That role was tailor-made for him and he was magnificent as Rodrigo aka "El Cid". Despite my profound disappointment with Heston of his later ultra-right-wing political views. His role as Rodrigo in El Cid, in my opinion, was even better than the Ten Commandments. El Cid is one of the greatest films of all time and in my opinion, no other actor could have played El Cid better than him.

There is a sense in this motion picture of innocence & virtue at its greatest aspect in days of knights, rogues & chivalry times I'd gladly live for without end. Sir Ivanhoe was of such appeal!!! Robert Taylor played the character to the hilt where honor is above all & GOD preserve the right where goodness & justice wins in the end..... George Sanders was bewitched by his love for Taylor's character & died believing it....."GOD keep you.....!!!!"

As I listen to the finale I can physically see the movie behind my eyes especially when King Richard returns and Prince John has to stand up and bow before the king. One thing I do know is that Prince John didn't like to do this one little bit but he had no choice to because Richard the Lion Heart was the king of England at that point in time.

In a cafe, a lone man sat at a table surrounded by other tables full up with diners. A young woman came in and spied the man at the table and asked it she could join him because there were no other tables open. "Sure, sit down," he said. "I'm Ivanhoe. And who are you, my dear? "Oh, I'm a Chicago ho." "Well then, it looks like good luck for both us!" exclaimed Ivanhoe.
